Air-dynamic bearings are increasingly used in supporting small high-speed rotating bodies. This study investigates the effects of design parameters on the axial stiffness of spiral-grooved air bearings of various curvatures. Design parameters are fundamental clearance, groove depth, and bearing number. The pressure distribution at the clearance between the stator and rotor of the bearing is obtained by solving the Reynolds equation, and the supporting load and the axial linear stiffness are calculated from the pressure distribution. It is found that a larger curvature increases the axial linear stiffness more and that there exist an optimal groove depth for the linear stiffness of the air bearing. It is also found that the linear stiffness has a linear relationship with the bearing number.
We consider the following type of general semi-parametric non-linear regression model : $y_i = f_i(\theta) + \epsilon_i, i=1, \cdots, n$ where ${f_i(\cdot)}$ represents the set of non-linear functions of the unknown parameter vector $\theta' = (\theta_1, \cdots, \theta_p)$ and ${\epsilon_i}$ represents the set of measurement errors with unknown distribution. Under suitable finite-sample, small-dispersion asymptotic framework, we derive a general lower bound for the asymptotic mean squared error (AMSE) matrix of the Gauss-consistent estimator of $\theta$. We then prove the fundamental result that the general non-linear least squares estimator (NLSE) is an optimal estimator within the class of all regular Gauss-consistent estimators irrespective of the type of the distribution of the measurement errors.

In this paper, a new method of statistically evaluating an output response probability distribution of a memory type non-linear system is practically derived based on a zero-memory type non-linear equivalent system. That is, first, the objective system is approximately and functionally separated into two functional parts, i.e., a zero-memory type non-linear part and a memory type linear part according to the well-known Wiener's idea. A whole mathematical frame of the output probability distribution is evaluated in an approximate but generalized form, based on the equivalent zero-memory type non-linear part. The memory effects between the input and the output of the system are reflected in the statistical parameters and the expansion coefficients.
The accurate evaluation of wind characteristics and wind-induced structural responses during a typhoon is of significant importance for bridge design and safety assessment. This paper presents an expectation maximization (EM) algorithm-based angular-linear approach for probabilistic modeling of field-measured wind characteristics. The proposed method has been applied to model the wind speed and direction data during typhoons recorded by the structural health monitoring (SHM) system instrumented on the arch Jiubao Bridge located in Hangzhou, China. In the summer of 2015, three typhoons, i.e., Typhoon Chan-hom, Typhoon Soudelor and Typhoon Goni, made landfall in the east of China and then struck the Jiubao Bridge. By analyzing the wind monitoring data such as the wind speed and direction measured by three anemometers during typhoons, the wind characteristics during typhoons are derived, including the average wind speed and direction, turbulence intensity, gust factor, turbulence integral scale, and power spectral density (PSD). An EM algorithm-based angular-linear modeling approach is proposed for modeling the joint distribution of the wind speed and direction. For the marginal distribution of the wind speed, the finite mixture of two-parameter Weibull distribution is employed, and the finite mixture of von Mises distribution is used to represent the wind direction. The parameters of each distribution model are estimated by use of the EM algorithm, and the optimal model is determined by the values of $R^2$ statistic and the Akaike's information criterion (AIC). The results indicate that the stochastic properties of the wind field around the bridge site during typhoons are effectively characterized by the proposed EM algorithm-based angular-linear modeling approach. The formulated joint distribution of the wind speed and direction can serve as a solid foundation for the purpose of accurately evaluating the typhoon-induced fatigue damage of long-span bridges.
DSTATCOM(distribution static compensator) is one of the custom power devices, and protects a distribution line from unbalanced and harmonic current caused by non-linear and unbalanced loads. Researches about DSTATCOM are mainly divided two parts, one is the calculation of compensated current and the other part is the current control. This paper proposes a proportional-resonant-repetitive current controller. Improved performance of instantaneous power compensation has been shown by simulations and experiments.
In this paper, we investigate the zeros distribution and Borel direction for the solutions of linear homogeneous differential equation $f^{(n)}+A_{n-2}(z)f^{(n-2)}+{\cdots}+A_1(z)f'+A_0(z)f=0(n{\geq}2)$ in an angular domain. Especially, we establish a relation between a cluster ray of zeros and Borel direction.

In this paper, the maximum likelihood estimators and confidence intervals for parameters of Weibull distribution are derived under three level constant stress accelerated life tests and the assumption that a log quadratic relationship exits between stress and the scale parameter ${\theta}$. The compound linear plan proposed by Kim (2006) is used to allocate the test units at each stress level, which performed nearly as good as the optimum quadratic plan and had the advantage of simplicity. Some simulation studies are given.

In this paper, we consider the random number generation method for multivariate Poisson distribution with specific covariance matrix. Random number generating method for the multivariate Poisson distribution is considered into two part, by first solving the linear equation to determine the univariate Poisson parameter, then convoluting independent univariate Poisson variates with appropriate expectations. We propose a numerical algorithm to solve the linear equation given the specific covariance matrix.

A Chi-square approximation to the distribution of product of independent Beta variates denoted by U is developed. The distribution is commonly used as a test criterion for the general linear hypothesis about the multivariate linear models. The approximation is obtained by fitting a logarithmic function of U to a Chi-square variate in terms of the first three moments. It is compared with the well known approximations due to Box(1949), Rao(1948), and Mudholkar and Trivedi(1980). It is found that the Chi-square approximation compares favorably with the other three approximations.

This paper proposes new parameterizations of the tilted beta binomial distribution, obtained from the combination of the binomial distribution and the tilted beta distribution, where the beta component of the mixture is parameterized as a function of their mean and variance. These new parameterized distributions include as particular cases the beta rectangular binomial and the beta binomial distributions. After that, we propose new linear regression models to deal with overdispersed binomial datasets. These new models are defined from the proposed new parameterization of the tilted beta binomial distribution, and assume regression structures for the mean and variance parameters. These new linear regression models are fitted by applying Bayesian methods and using the OpenBUGS software. The proposed regression models are fitted to a school absenteeism dataset and to the seeds germination rate according to the type seed and root.
