  • Heat transfer in linear motor driven stages for surface mounting device applications was investigated. A simple one-dimensional thermal resistance model (TRM) was introduced. In order to reduce three-dimensional nature to one-dimensional, a few assumptions and simplifications were employed suitably. A good agreement with a finite element heat transfer analysis in temperature profile was obtained. For validation, the analysis was compared with the measurement with respect to motor driving power. Overall discrepancy was less than 7$^{\circ}C$. The influence of two high thermal resistance parts, insulation sheet and thermal contact between the coil assembly and the mounting plate, was examined through the analysis. Additionally, the thermal resistance analysis was applied to another stage including an internal cooling-air passage, and was found available for this system as well. After validation, the cooling effect was surveyed in terms of motor power, and cooling-air and -water flow rate.

  • This paper discusses the local influence approach to the linear regression models with AR(2) errors. Diagnostics for the linear regression models with AR(2) errors are proposed and developed when simultaneous perturbations of the response vector are allowed- That is, the direction of maximum curvature of local influence analysis is obtained by studying the curvature of a surface associated with the overall discrepancy measure.

  • This study is to keep the accuracy and stability of the output dose evaluations for linear accelerator photon beams by using the air ionization chambers (TM31010, 0.125 cc, PTW) through the Task Group 51 protocol. The absorbed dose to water calibration factor $N_{dw}{^{Co-60}}$ was delivered from the air kerma calibration factor $N_k$ which was provided from manufacture through SSDL calibration for determination of output factor. The ionization chamber of TM31010 series was reviewed the calibration factor and other parameters for reduce the uncertainty within ${\pm}2%$ discrepancy and we found the supplied $N_{dw}{^{Co-60}}$ which was derived from Nk has shown a -2.8% uncertainty compare to that of PSDL. The authors provided the program to perform the output dosimetry with TG-51 protocol as it is composed same screen of TG-51 worksheets. The evaluated dose by determination of output factor delivered to postal TLD block for comparison the output dose to that of MDACC (RPC) in postal monitoring program. The results have shown the $1.001{\pm}0.013$ for 6 MV and $0.997{\pm}0.012$ discrepancy for 15 MV X rays for 5 years followed. This study shows the evaluated outputs for linear accelerate photon beams are very close to that of international output monitor with small discrepancy of ${\pm}1.3%$ with high reliability and showing the gradually stability after 2010.

  • The goal of this study was to explain the phenomenon of making efforts to overcome the need-reality collision as a cultural characteristic of Koreans. Specifically, we examined whether the behavior varies depending on the degree of relational agency in the situation where conflicts between one's needs and reality have occurred. To this end, a total of 217 participants participated in the online experiment, and the data of 156 participants were finally analyzed. After responding to the relational agency scale, the participants were exposed to a decision-making scenario in which conflicting factors existed. The scenario were about buying a house and making a wedding hall contract, and in each scenario, two important values were set to conflict with each other in the market. Participants read the scenario and entered the level they wanted for each value. After that, they encounter a situation in which he or she has not found the candidate site corresponding to the level he or she wants. Then, the participants responded to their willingness to make additional efforts themselves. As a result of the study, the degree of relational agency of the participants showed a positive relationship with the degree of additional effort. In addition, the degree of the desired level beyond the reality (expectancy discrepancy) showed a nonlinear (reverse U-shape) influence on the additional effort while controlling for individual difference. Furthermore, the interaction effect between relational agency and expectancy discrepancy was significant. Specifically, individuals with low agency did not have a significant relationship between the degree of expectancy discrepancy and the dependent variable, but individuals with high relational agency had a significant non-linear relationship between the degree of expectancy discrepancy and the dependent variable. Based on the results of the study, the role and function of Koreans' psychological characteristics (relational agency) in the scene of managing needs-reality collision were discussed.

  • In many real applications, the discrepancy problem between controller outputs and plant inputs or the abrupt variation problem of controller outputs can occur. These problems have a negative effect on control performance and stability. It is well-known that two phenomena called 'windup' and 'bump' cause these problems. So far these problems have been studied separately in each side of the anti-windup and the bumpless transfer. This paper proposes a new unified method combines the anti-windup and the bumpless transfer method using the linear quadratic minimization and a proper state space model representation for the anti-windup controller. The proposed method has a feature that it takes account of both the anti-windup and the bumpless transfer in one formula. Finally, we exemplify the performance of the proposed method via numerical examples using the controller switching between the anti-windup PID controller and the anti-windup LQ controller.

  • In the grade change operations inputs and outputs are highly correlated and application of conventional linear feedback control methods such as PID schemes might lead to poor control performance. In this study the neural networks model for the grade change operation is trained by using bilinear terms which can represent non-linear characteristics of grade change operations. The inverse model of the grade change operation is obtained from training and the optimal input variables are computed from the trained neural networks as well. The proposed bilinear inverse model predictive control scheme was found out to showlittle discrepancy between simulated outputs and setpoints.

  • It is possible to extract a 3D models from its multiple views using the self-calibration. Though it is possible to construct 3D models of objects from their multiple views, accuracy of 3D models depends on the fundamental matrix estimated between two views. In this paper, we show the fundamental matrix accuracy can be improved by taking a non-linear minimization technique. Furthermore, the corresponding points which are completely mismatches or have greater discrepancy errors in their locations, reduce the fundamental matrix accuracy. Thus, applying the Monte Carlo technique and the non-linear minimization Levenberg-Marquardt method to remove the outliers, we can estimate the fundamental matrix with the higher accuracy.

  • This paper deals with the performance analysis of LIPCA(Light-weight Piezo-Composite actuator) including the material nun-linearity of the embedded 3203HD PZT wafer. For this analysis, we used a piezo-shell element code based on a nine-node assumed strain shell element formulation. The material non-linearity was implemented in the formulation due to a large observed discrepancy between the measured displacement and the computed actuation displacement based on the linear analysis. An experimentally extracted piezo-strain function of the PZT wafer and incremental formulation were incorporated into the linear finite element code to improve the accuracy of the estimated actuation displacement of the LIPCA. The non-linear piezo-shell program was used to predict the non-linear performance of the LIPCA. The simulated actuation displacement from the non-linear code showed much better agreement with the measured data.

  • A study on the variation of radiation stress and mean water level is carried out for the shoaling and breaking waves on a plane beach. In general, the radiation stresses computed based on the linear wave theory are overestimated. which results in the discrepancy between the computed results and laboratory data of mean water level in the surf zone. In this paper, by modifying the Svendsen's approach (1984), radiation stress is expressed in terms of water depth. The computed results are compared with the results calculated by a linear wave theory and Sawaragi's approach (1984) based on the spectrum of breaking wave components, and published laboratory data. The computed results of the modifed Svendsen's approach are favourably compared with the laboratory data.
