  • In this research, it has been developed the tongs mechanism by a friction force for curbstone working. This tongs apparatus was farmed to grip and rotate the rectangular curbstone. Specification of this tongs apparatus has been determined by considering a loading weight and reversal load preventing reversal of 1.5 ton excavator. And, specification of the linear actuator has been determined with considering mechanical structure and the operation power demanded by the grip pad friction of tongs apparatus. The safety of the part has been examined from the 3D numerical simulation of the tongs apparatus. The operation system has been arranged to grip and rotate curbstone by on-off switching. The prototype has been established to carry out experiment after installing 1.5 ton excavator.

  • In this paper an asymmetric hydraulic actuator which consists of single acting cylinder and servo valve is modeled for a quarter car active suspension system. This model regards the force as an internal state rather than a control input. The control input of the model is the sum of oil flows that pass through the valve's orifices. The resulting dynamic equation in the state space ap-pears a feedback connection of a nominal linear time in-variant term with a nonlinear bounded uncertain block. Since this model makes it possible to eliminate the force control phase, analysis and controller design are made straightforward and simple. Well known LQR method is then applied. Simulation and test rig experiment show the effectiveness of this approach in modeling and control.

  • Control Moment Gyro (CMG) has been used as an indirect actuator of a single-wheel robot system GYROBO, developed at Chungnam National University. The flip motion of the gimbal system produces the gyroscopic motion onto the body system while the body motion also produces the gyroscopic motion onto the gimbal system inversely. In this paper, the intuitive equation of the inverse gyroscopic effect is derived as the direct relation between the rate of the body system and the rate of the gimbal system. Experiments on the inverse gyroscopic effect under the chaotically generated disturbance are conducted. Experimental data are approximated by a linear equation using the least square method.

  • This paper presents a simulation study using a robust controller to improve the roll stability of a vehicle. The controller is designed in the framework of an output feedback H$_{\infty}$ control scheme based on the 3DOF linear vehicle model, solving the mixed-sensitivity problem to guarantee the robust stability and disturbance rejection with respect to parameter variations due to laden and running vehicle conditions. In order to investigate the feasibility of the active roll control system in a real car, its performance is evaluated by simulation in a 10DOF full vehicle model with actuator dynamics and tire characteristics.

  • A strategy for the swing-up and stabilization control method for a two-links rotational pendulum according to states of each link of the rotational pendulum is proposed. The proposed controller consists of two modes of control such as divergence mode and stabilization mode. When the controller is in divergence mode, control input is generated using sinusoidal function, which is developed based on resonance period of the pendulum in linear region, to make the second link (pendulum) reach top position. After the controller finishes operation in divergence mode, stabilization control is initiated to keep the pendulum around the top position using pole placement control method. Experimental results are given to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • This paper presents an event-triggered model predictive controller for adaptive cruise control system with sampled and quantized-data. Unlike existing works, a longitudinal continuous-time model is used for the predictive control of the system. To efficiently utilize network resources, event-trigger scheme is employed, which allows limited sensor and actuator signal satisfying the condition that the measurement of errors is over the ratio of a trigger level. The proposed control gain is obtained by solving a convex problem satisfying several linear matrix inequalities at every sampling times. Simulation results are given to show the effectiveness of the proposed design method.

  • This paper describes an implementation of a radiocontrolled airplane attitude control. To obtain the model of motion, stabilizing and control coefficients, we derive the related paramaters from aerodynamics, propulsion, gravity, wind correction and atmosphere. In this model, after separating longitudinal axis and lateral axis, we can get longitudinal axis model and lateral axis model by using actuator and dynamic characteristics of engine. From these two models, we experiment two divided parts-linear part, and nonlinear part.

  • This paper deals with an electromagnetic analysis and control parameter estimation of a moving-coil linear oscillatory actuator (MCLOA). Analytical solutions for electromagnetic characteristics of the MCLOA are obtained from transfer relations derived in terms of a magnetic vector potential and two-dimensional (2-d) rectangular coordinate systems. And then, on the basis of 2-d analytical solutions, control parameters such as the thrust constant, the back-emf constant and winding inductances are estimated. Finally, analytical results for both electromagnetic characteristics and control parameters of the MCLOA are validated extensively by finite element (FE) analyses. In particular, test results such as static thrust, resistance and inductance measurements are given to confirm the analyses.

  • Voice Coil Motor is used linear motion actuator system that require precision positioning control. In order to control precision positioning of voice coil motor, Mathematical model of voice coil motor is needed. Mathematical model is obtained by combining voice coil motor's equation of motion with the equation of circuit and characteristic of voice coil motor. The induced model can predict output displacement according to duty ratio and amplitude. The model is verified by experimental test. Simulated results have tracking errors of less than 10 percent of experimental results.

  • The spherical CVT, intended to overcome some of the limitations of existing CVT designs, is marked by its simple kinematic design, improved efficiency of the shift actuator, and IVT characteristics, i.e., the ability of smooth transition between the forward, neutral, and reverse states without the need for any brakes or clutches. And it has been promised much possibility of energy savings and various applications for small power capacity machinery. Due to the nonlinearity of the spherical CVT shifting dynamics, however the original open-loop system is inherently unstable. Hence a feedback controller is necessary to make the system stable and to achieve effective tracking performance. To do this, we designed a feedback controller that cancels nonlinearities and transforms the original nonlinear system dynamics into a stable and controllable linear one, based on the input-state linearization method.
