  • We has been studied the thin film encapsulation effect for organic light-emitting diodes (OLED). To evaluate the passivation properties of the passivation layer materials, we have carried out the fabrication of green light emitting diodes with ultra violet(UV) light absorbing polymer resin, $SiO_2,\;and\;SiN_x$, respectively. From the measurement results of shrinkage properties according to the exposure time to the atmosphere, we found that $SiN_x$ thin film is the best material for passivation layer. We have investigated the emission efficiency and life time of OLED device using the package structure of $OLED/SiN_x/polymer$ resin/Al/polymer resin. The emission efficiency of this OLED device was 13 lm/W and life time was about 2,000 hours, which reach 95 % of the performance for the OLED encapsulated with metal.

  • Light plays an important role in making a continuity of space and in determining the distinctive expression and char-acter of a space. Particularly, the introduction of natural light derives from our esthetic needs, as well as from the fundamental biologi-cal necessities of human beings. And also, adaptation to time and space is the vital factor of human survival and prosperity. Our visual recognition of light is usually formed not only by practical illumination but by analogy, expection and expe-rienced of lighting itself. As the forecase of natural light is (almost) impossible be-cause of variables such as changing weather, reflection rate of light and the patterns of shade, in designing the introduc-tion of daylight, there should be follow-ed careful considera-tion of the adaptation to such variety and the impet-us of light. The research was conducted to mane a contribution to cre-ate more rich and beautiful interior spaces by studying the characteristic of light which is one of the important factors of interior space design, and by inquiring the way to intro-duce light and its effect through the practical examples of Alvar Aalto, Le Corbusier and Louis I. Kahn.

  • In this study, basic research was conducted on manufacturing technology of thick-walled light guide a component that controls the light source of automobile lamps. As a preliminary study for manufacturing the final injection molded parts, a model for analyzing the influence of micro patterns on light guides is presented. The optical characteristics of the light guide were analyzed according to the change of the curvature radius of the micro-optical pattern, and the injection molding characteristics of the light guide according to the change of injection molding conditions were analytically evaluated. It was confirmed that the luminance uniformity improves as the R value decreases for changes in the micro-pattern R value, but it was confirmed that there are technical limitations in actual injection mold core processing and high-replication injection molding. Injection molding analysis showed that cooling channel design is very important compared to general injection molding due to thick-wall characteristics and thickness variation. It was also confirmed that the cooling channel has a great influence on the cycle time and birefringence result due to residual stress. As a result of analyzing the influence of filling time, holding condition, and cooling on shrinkage, it was found that the cooling water temperature has a significant effect on the shrinkage of ultra-fine light guide parts, and the holding condition also has a significant effect.

  • In optoelectronic devices including displays and solar cells that convert electricity into light or light into electricity, it is important to control optical behavior of light to improve device efficiency. Specifically, the control of internal emitting light in the OLEDs can induce more light to go out, improving luminous efficiency. In addition, the control of optical behavior of incident light in solar cells can increase optical path in the light absorption layer, increasing power-conversion efficiency. In this study, we generated wrinkles as a physical structure to control optical behavior of light and independently controlled their wavelength and height by changing stress relaxation time. To explore the effect of wavelength and height on optical behavior, we conducted UV/Vis spectroscopy analysis of wrinkles with various heights at a constant wavelength or various wavelengths at a comparable height, figuring out a wrinkle with high aspect ratio has more dispersive light and less straight light. It indicates that high aspect ratio is required to change the optical behavior and increase the optical path.

  • To meet stringent LEV and ULEV emission standards, a considerable amount of development work was necessary to ensure suitable efficiency and durability of catalyst systems. The main challenge is to cut off the engine cold-start emissions. It is known that up to 80% of the total hydrocarbons(THC) are exhausted within the first five minutes in case of US FTP 75 cycle. Close-Coupled Catalyst(CCC) provides fast light-off temperature by utilizing the energy in the exhaust gas. However, if some malfunction occurred at engine operation and the catalyst temperature exceeds 1050$\^{C}$, the catalytic converter is deactivated and shows the poor conversion efficiency. This paper presents effEcts of engine operating conditions on catalytic converter temperature in a SI engine, which are the indications of catalytic deactivation. Exhaust gas temperature and catalyst temperature were measured as a function of air/fuel ratio, ignition timing and misfire rates. Additionally, light-off time was measured to investigate the effect of operating conditions. It was found that ignition retard and misfire can result in the deactivation of the catalytic converter, which eventually leads the drastic thermal aging of the converter. Significant reduction in light-off time can be achieved with proper control of ignition retard and misfire, which can reduce cold-start HC emissions as well.
