  • This study aims to suggest a Biophilic classroom design of high school to obtain attention restoration for students. The learning space for youth in the modern society is composed of dry artificial structures. This space is considered to be a space that can not relieve stress caused by learning. "The Attention Restoration Theory" is divided into "Directed Attention" of humans, which is the cause of fatigue and stress, and "Involuntary Attention" as a solution to it. "Involuntary Attention" takes place in a rest state and helps the brain recover when exposed to nature. And the core of "Biophilic-Design Theory" is that humans can recover physical and mental conditions when exposed to nature. The purpose of this study is to apply "The Biophilic-Design Theory" that emphasizes the importance of exposure to nature to the educational space and plan the space where the 'Attention Restoration' can be achieved. The research method is as follows. First, we review previous studies related to "The Biophilic-Design Theory" and "The Attention Restoration Theory". Second, we analyze the application examples of "The Biophilic-Design Theory" and "The Attention Restoration Theory" in domestic and foreign educational spaces. Third, the concept of educational space is set up based on the elements derived from previous studies. Finally, we propose the planning direction of classroom design based on Biophilic-Design. The following conclusions were drawn. First, The creation of the education space to restore the learner's attention requires a visual space plan that utilizes natural elements such as natural light, artificial light, plants, and natural materials that can directly experience nature. Second, the direction in which students in the classroom can be "The Attention Restoration Theory" should consider the use of indirect natural elements that bring the surrounding natural landscape into the interior. This study will be used as the baseline data for the spatial design and planning of education facilities based on Biophilic-Design.

  • Photoelectric observations of close binary stars, AO Cam and AW Cam, were made during the 1984 observing season with the 61cm reflector at the Sobaeksan Observatory. One time of primary minimum for AO Cam and three primary epochs for AW Cam were derived from the observations of these two systems. Times of minimum light of these two binaries collected from literature were analyzed with a least square fitting method. New improved light elements for AO Cam and AW Cam were determined. The orbital period of AO Cam had been constant from Octobar, 1980 (JD 244520) to February, 1985 (JD 2446107). However, one secondary time of minimum (JD 2447864.7879) of AO Cam published recently by Mullis and Faulkner(1991) shows large deviation of about 4.6 minutes ($0^d.0032$) from the one predicted by our new light elements. Future observations of times of minima for this system are needed to test this period change. The orbital period of AW Cam has been constant as P=$0^d.77134645$ for about sixty years from the early 1930's to the present.

  • Johannes Vermeer is one of the masters in the 17th century Dutch Genre Painting. Genre Painting represented the mundane everyday life and humble domestic spaces of the time. It was so unique in the history of western art. Most common subjects of the medieval art had been myths, historical heroes, and the christianity up to that time. However, Dutch Genre Painting that was originated from the 16th century Flandre art has fundamentally changed perception of art. Genre Painting was related to the prosperous development of civil society and early capitalism in the Netherlands of the time. In the paintings of Vermeer, there are unique spatial characteristics. This study aims to 'spatially' analyze the representation of everyday space perceived by the painter himself. Three analytical elements were chosen: light, space, and geometry. These elements have crucial roles to construct a space together within which Vermeer tried to express his discoveries as well as perception of the world. Four paintings were selected to be further analyzed in detail: $\ulcorner$A Maid Asleep$\lrcorner$ (1656-57), $\ulcorner$The Little Street$\lrcorner$ (1658-60), $\ulcorner$The Music Lesson$\lrcorner$ (1662-1665), and $\ulcorner$Young Woman with a Water Pitcher$\lrcorner$ (1662). It has been found that there are distinct spatial aspects in his paintings: Structure of Frontal Layers, Diffusion of Light, and Subtle Geometrical Tension. It is hoped that this sort of interdisciplinary research could enrich the related studies in the field of architecture & interior design, and could help to rediscover the everyday world that we live in here and now.

  • We present a method of modeling lights from photographs taken with conventional imaging equipment. It does not use both any geometrical information and special apparatus to calculate surface reflection properties. To represent surface reflection properties of the scene, we use BRDFs which are calculated by radiance values of surface elements and light sources. And the BRDF data of each surface is further transformed to the spherical harmonic domain for efficient storage. Thus it allows to reconstruct the photo-realistic scene under different light sources, to manipulate diversely the arbitrary light source and to control exposure time of camera sensor. Moreover we test our algorithm with real image instead of synthetic image.

  • In this study we analyzed and interpreted the phenomenologlcal characteristics and meanings of water space in religious architecture through field studies and phenomenologlcal approaches, focusing on the religious architecture Introducing water space in contemporary architecture. The phenomenological experience elements of the research ate light, time, place and context. As the results of this study, first, light as a phenomenological element not only induces a contrast and change between light and the shadow in architectural space and various changes of light in inner space, but also operates as an element which expresses building features outward with time. Second, time as a phenomenological perception experience makes us feel changes of the environment and physical properties and experience space visually and physically. The continuity of time shows the change of a day, night and daytime and seasons. Third, water space makes the sense of place more remarkable, connected closely with surrounding nature In outer space, and creates a new space. Fourth, water space is a contextual element which harmonizes with surrounding environment by connecting surrounding natural environment with architectural space. Fifth, water space in religious architecture is a symbolic and central element, and emphasizes the atmosphere of architectural space. In addition, it makes the people who experience water space perceive the place by triggering sensitive response.

  • Utilization of mineral and chemical admixtures in concrete technology has led to changes in the formulation and mix design in recent decades, which has, in turn, made the concrete stronger and more durable. Lightweight concrete is an excellent solution in terms of decreasing the dead load of the structure, while self-compacting concrete eases the pouring and removes the construction problems. Combining the advantages of lightweight concrete and self-compacting concrete is a new and interesting research topic. Considering its light weight of structure and ease of placement, self-compacting lightweight concrete may be the answer to the increasing construction requirements of slender and more heavily reinforced structural elements. Twenty one laboratory experimental investigations published on the mix proportion, density and mechanical properties of lightweight self-compacting concrete from the last 12 years are analyzed in this study. The collected information is used to investigate the mix proportions including the chemical and mineral admixtures, light weight and normal weight aggregates, fillers, cement and water. Analyzed results are presented in terms of statistical expressions. It is very helpful for future research to choose the proper components with different ratios and curing conditions to attain the desired concrete grade according to the planned application.

  • Lighting for gas station should be carefully designed with safety and visually attraction. Recent studies have shown that non-cutoff luminaires should not be used for gas station. duo to light pollution and energy waste. This paper aims to evaluate the luminous environment in gas station with non-cutoff luminaires. The CS-100 and Radiant Imaging Prometric-1400 were used to measure the luminance of building surface, canopy, ceiling and ground surface. The result shows that the whole luminance of various combination elements in gas station increases by rising the total luminaires of the canopy. All of the gas stations with non-cutoff luminaries produce light pollution. Some guidelines for outdoor lighting in gas station is necessary.

  • One of the barriers limiting wide applications of magnesium alloys to various industries is their poor corrosion resistance. The corrosion properties of AZ91 magnesium alloy, which is the most popular magnesium casting alloy, are affected by microstructural and environmental factors. The corrosion properties of AZ91 magnesium alloy are affected by the corrosion properties of ${\alpha}-Mg$ and ${\beta}$ phases, the volume fraction and distribution of ${\beta}$ phase and area ratio of ${\alpha}-Mg/{\beta}$ phases. The corrosion properties of AZ91 magnesium alloy under various environments also change according to the passivity of films and types of corrosion products formed on its surface. The corrosion resistance of the magnesium alloys can be improved by microstructural control through the addition of alloying elements and optimization of the production process.
