  • The coefficient of variation(CV) which is a relatively dimensionless measure of variability is widely used to describe the variation of sample data. However, the properties of CV distribution are little available and few research has been done on estimation and interpretation of CV. In this paper, we give an outline of statistical properties of coefficient of variation and design of control chart based on this statistic. Construction procedures of control chart are presented. The proposed control chart is an efficient method to monitor a process variation for short production run situation. Futhermore, we evaluated the performance of CV control chart by average run length(ARL).

  • In this study, a position control characteristics of pneumatic cylinder with transmission line is analyzed. Dynamic characteristics of transmission line using compressible fluid is changed by the flowing stiles of the fluid the diameter and the length of the line. But, the effect of the change of dynamic characteristics of transmission line by the flowing states on the position control characteristics can be neglected because of the friction force of the pneumatic cylinder. So, We assume that the position control characteristics is affected by the diameter and length of the transmission line. The experimental results according to the change of parameter of the transmission line show that the relation between the parameter of the transmission line and the position control characteristics of pneumatic cylinder driving system with the transmission line.

  • We know that the exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) control charts are sensitive to detecting relatively small shifts. Multivariate EWMA control charts are considered for monitoring of variance-covariance matrix when the distribution of process variables is multivariate normal. The performances of the proposed EWMA control charts are evaluated in term of average run length (ARL). The performance is investigated in three types of shifts in the variance-covariance matrix, that is, the variances, covariances, and variances and covariances are changed respectively. Numerical results show that all multivariate EWMA control charts considered in this paper are effective in detecting several kinds of shifts in the variance-covariance matrix.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the different effects on labor pain, length of delivery time, and hemoglobin for primipara women treated by San-Yin-Jiao(SP-6) acupressure of 15 minutes or 30 minutes. Methods: The design of this study was a randomized clinical trial with two experimental groups and one control group, the participants included primiparas who underwent vaginal delivery. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire consisting of general characteristics with a subjective labor pain scale with VA.S, and length of delivery time and hemoglobin were collected in the medical record. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, x2- test, t-test, and ANCOVA. Results: There was statistically significant lower labor pain in the group of 30 minutes SP6 acupressure than the control group(t=7.733, p=.007), and there was statistically significant short length of delivery time in the group of 15 minutes SP6 acupressure than the control group(t=-2.230, p=.030). Conclusions: Even though we could not found a consistent effect with the SP6 acupressure, It was found that there was effect on shortening length of delivery time by 15 minutes of SP6 acupressure or lessening labor pain by 30 minutes of SP6 acupressure without risk of blood loss. It is necessary to replicate the study with a larger number of participants to find a consistent result.

  • This paper is concerned with the design of two residual control charts for real-time monitoring of the continuous flow processes. Two different control charts are designed under the situation that observations are correlated each other. Kalman-Filter based model estimation is employed when the process model is known. A black-box approach, based on Back-Propagation Neural Network, is also applied for the design of control chart when there is no prior information of process model. Performance of the designed control charts and traditional control charts is evaluated. Average run length(ARL) is adopted as a criterion for comparison. Experimental results show that the designed control chart using the Neural Network's modeling has shorter ARL than that of the other control charts when process mean is shifted. This means that the designed control chart detects the out-of-control state of the process faster than the others. The designed control chart using the Kalman-Filter based model estimation also has better performance than traditional control chart when process is out-of-control state.

  • This study was initiated to investigate the effect of chitosan on Kentucky bluegrass growth. Chitosan was applied rates of 300, 500, and 800 times dilution at ten-day intervals after transplanting. We observed such growth characteristics asleaf length, root length, numbers of leaves, fresh weight and dry weight, and chlorophyll content. Treatment of 300 X diluted chitosan resulted in the longest leaf length of 26.2cm comparing with the 17.1cm average leaf length of control. Leaf numbers were 21.4 and 31.7 for the control and the 500 X dilution treatment. The root length in control was 16.8cm while the treatment of 500 X diluted chitosan increased root length to 27.4cm. Chlorophyll content resulted 19.9mg/$100cm^2$ for the control and 25.5mg/$100cm^2$ for the treatment of 300 X diluted chitosan. In general, we found that the treatment of 500 X diluted chitosan resulted higher leaf number, chlorophyll content, fresh and dry weight.

  • This paper shows a length of wirecutter using an analysis based on Rotorcraft's control input and taxiing speed. In case of selecting an inappropriate length of wirecutter which applies to rotorcraft for safety, this causes a collision between blade and wirecuter, or an accident by wire. We review the control input which was used in development stage, and establish the conditions of control input which are needed in taxiing. Based on these conditions, we review the collision possibility between blade and wirecutter through analysis in case of 20, 40, 60 kts taxiing speed. Following, this result is verified by comparison with that of a simulation test in rotorcarft. Finally, in case of high collision possibility, we presented the downsize length to avoid the collision and increment of non-protective area in flight, simultaneously.

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to identify whether gym-ball exercise in standing position was an effective intervention for improving muscle strength, balance, gait, and fall efficacy in stroke patients. Methods : Twenty-four stroke patients were randomized into three groups: experimental group 1 (n=8), experimental group 2 (n=8), and control group (n=8). Experimental groups 1, 2 and the control group performed the gym-ball exercise in standing position, same exercise without a gym-ball, and general physical therapy for 4 weeks, five times a week in 30-minute sessions. Muscle strength, balance, gait, and fall efficacy were assessed using a handheld dynamometer, the Berg Balance Scale (BBS), the wearable BTS G-WALK® sensor, and the Korean version of the Falls Efficacy Scale (K-FES), before and after training, respectively. Comparisons within and between groups were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed rank test, Kruskal Wallis H test, and Mann-Whitney U test. Bonferroni correction was performed when significant differences between groups were identified (p<.017, .05/3). Results : Regarding muscle strength, BBS score, cadence and FES-K were significantly improved after intervention in all three groups. The weight bearing rate, gait speed and step length in experimental group 1 and 2 were significantly improved after the intervention. The stride length in experimental group 1 were significantly improved after the intervention. Experimental group 1 had significantly improved BBS score and stride length after intervention than experimental group 2 and control group. Experimental group 1 and 2 improved muscle strength, weight bearing rate, and FES-K score more than the control group. Experimental group 1 showed significant improvement in cadence, gait speed, and step length after the intervention than control group. Conclusion : This study showed that exercise with gym-ball in standing position can be an effective intervention to improve balance and gait in stroke patients than the same exercise without gym-ball.
