Changes in Electrical Properties of ZnO Surge Arresters According to Surrounding Conditions (외부 환경조건에 따른 ZnO 피뢰기의 전기적 특성의 변화)

  • This paper describes the electrical characteristics of ZnO surge arresters associated with the variation of surrounding conditions. To investigate the deterioration behaviors of ZnO surge arresters due to lightning surges, 8/20[${\mu}s$], 2.5[kA] impulse currents were injected to the ZnO surge arrester under test. The leakage currents of ZnO surge arrester subject to power frequency AC voltage were measured in different surrounding temperature and wet conditions. As a result, it was found that the leakage current is increased and its asymmetry is pronounced as the number of injection of the impulse current and the ambient temperature increase. Also, in the wet test the outside leakage current flowing through the housing surface of the ZnO surge arrester is much larger than the intrinsic leakage current of ZnO surge arrester element. The results obtained in this work can be a lied as factors of improving the reliability and performance of monitoring system for surge arresters.

  • In a Gas Insulated Substation (GIS), Very Fast Transients (VFTs) are generated mainly due to switching operations. These transients may cause internal faults, i.e., layer-to-layer faults in a capacitively graded bushing as it is one of the most important terminal equipment for GIS. The healthiness of the bushing is generally verified by measuring its leakage current. However, the change in current magnitude/pattern is only marginal for different types of fault conditions. Leakage current monitoring (LCM) systems generate large amounts of data and computer aided interpretation of defects may be of great assistance when analyzing this data. In view of the above, ANN techniques have been used in this study for identification of these minor faults. A single layer perceptron network, a two layer feed-forward back propagation network and cascade correlation (CC) network models are used to identify interlayer faults in the bushing. The effectiveness of the CC network over perceptron and back propagation networks in identification of a fault has been analysed as part of the paper.

  • In this paper, aging characteristics of silicone rubber used for outdoor insulation have been investigated with regards to salt fog condition and heat aging effect. We look over the change of properties of silicone rubber in salt fog chamber with average leakage current monitoring for observing the transformation of surface degradation properties of silicone rubber with different ATH(alumina trihydrate, $Al_2O_3{\cdot}3H_2O$) filler contents. Surface resistivity, SEM(Scanning Electro Microscope) were measured.

  • In this paper, we describe about the field test of polymeric long rod insulator for rail way. For the test, insulators were mounted at the feeder line system at Kuro base station and were exposed to environmental, electric, and mechanical stress. During the test service, the leakage current was been monitoring and stored the data by the leakage current measuring system that was specially constructed. After about 6 months, diagnostic tests for evaluation of the installed insulators were conducted. The test results developed that the developed polymeric insulator is valid to use for rail way.

  • This paper in order to reduce the electric disaster damage which is caused by with electric equipment of conventional markets is introduced the electric safety monitoring system which is suitable in conventional markets. Investigate the actual conditions about electrical equipment of conventional markets, electrical safety monitoring system was constructed. Electrical safety monitoring system to verify the performance of the experiment was to build a test bed. Research results will be used with the data for the reliability security of the electric safe system operation which follows in the conventional markets actual proof equipment construction which will be advanced.

  • In this paper, remote control and surveillance monitoring system of HID street-lamp using low-cost type of Zigbee communication module was developed. A plurality of capacitors with different capacity are attached to magnetic ballast for HID lamps. Changes in the amount of illumination can be adjusted by the changes in capacity so that the electric energy can be reduced. In Zigbee communication module, a ATmega128L microprocessor is used and in main CPU, ARM9 Core is used to construct a low-cost smart system. In surveillance monitoring systems, the system was configured to remote monitoring of presence of error in the lamp abnormalities, the status of leakage current and abnormalities of ballasts and capacitors and the validity of the proposed empirical experiment was confirmed.

  • The monitoring and diagnosing technique for lightning arresters is important to assure the reliability of power supply in GIS-substation. In this paper, we described the implementation of an expert system for GIS arrester facilities. The proposed system consists of a data acquisition module (DAM), a wireless communication module, and a personal computer. The DAM detects system voltages, total leakage currents and its harmonic components, and includes an algorithm to calculate the resistive leakage current by the principle that the magnitudes of resistive leakage current are equal at the same level of the system voltage applied to the arrestor. Also, we designed a surge event detection circuit which can acquire the date, the polarity, and the amplitude of surge events. All the acquired data are transmitted after correction by many algorithms to the remote station through the ZigBee protocol. The expert system is based on the Jave Expert System Shell (JESS) and make more reliable decision by using an exclusive inference process.

  • This paper describes on the development of power monitoring system using microprocessor. The detecting power system is composed of main controller system and analyzing software. The system detected voltage, current temperature, leakage current and its saved in ROM. This system applies the 'AT89C52' to CPU and 'AM29F040B' used a memory to save the data.

  • From the instant of installation and operation, power cables start deteriorating. Cable systems can be maintained not only by monitoring the insulation status of the insulation layer and oversheath, but also the insulation status of the terminal and junction in high-voltage power cables. When the cable system (the cable itself and cable junctions combined) deteriorates, fire accidents happen due to dielectric breakdowns. We have invented a device to monitor the deteriorating status of cables, and installed it at Korea Western Power Co. Ltd. located in Taean, Chungcheongnam-do Province. In this paper, we present the results obtained using our device, through analysing and calculating the standard deviation of leakage current from cable insulators attached to the cables. When the standard deviation of analysed leakage current falls below a critical value, a cable system is deemed to be operating safely. But when the standard deviation of analysed leakage current is larger than the critical value, the insulation status of the terminal and junction in the cable system is considered to have seriously deteriorated. The terminal and junction in the relevant system should then be replaced preemptively in order to prevent blackout accidents of cables caused by the suspension of power supply.
