The purpose of this study is to investigate thermal post-buckling analysis of a laminated composite beam subjected under uniform temperature rising with temperature dependent physical properties. The beam is pinned at both ends and immovable ends. Under temperature rising, thermal buckling and post-buckling phenomena occurs with immovable ends of the beam. In the nonlinear kinematic model of the post-buckling problem, total Lagrangian approach is used in conjunction with the Timoshenko beam theory. Also, material properties of the laminated composite beam are temperature dependent: that is the coefficients of the governing equations are not constant. In the solution of the nonlinear problem, incremental displacement-based finite element method is used with Newton-Raphson iteration method. The effects of the fibber orientation angles, the stacking sequence of laminates and temperature rising on the post-buckling deflections, configurations and critical buckling temperatures of the composite laminated beam are illustrated and discussed in the numerical results. Also, the differences between temperature dependent and independent physical properties are investigated for post-buckling responses of laminated composite beams.

In the first-order shear deformation laminated beam theory (FSDT), the Kirchhoff hypothesis is relaxed such that the transverse normals do not remain perpendicular to the midsurface after deformation. Bending behavior of laminated composite thin-walled beams with singly- and doubly-symmetric open sections under uniformly distributed and concentrated loads is analyzed by the Timoshenko-type thin-walled beam theory. A closed-form expression for the shear correction factor of I-shaped composite laminated section is obtained. Numerical examples are presented to compare present analytical solutions by FSDT with the finite element solutions obtained by using three dimensional model. The effects of lamination of scheme and length-to-height ratio on the shear deformation of laminated composite beams with various boundary conditions are studied.

Lateral buckling behavior of laminated composite thin-walled I-section beams subjected to bending moment is investigated by applying the nonlinear anisotropic thin-walled beam theory. The constituent laminated thin-walled elements of I-section are assumed to be symmetrically laminated. The bending, twisting, and warping stiffnesses of the cross section are obtained based on the definitions of these stiffnesses In the thin-walled anisotropic beam theory In numerical examples, singly-symmetric I-beams with specially orthotropic, quasi-isotropic, angle-plys and various boundary conditions are considered. To validate the proposed theoretical approach, present analytical solutions are compared with three dimensional finite element solutions.
The super convergent laminated composite beam element is newly derived for the lateral stability analysis. For this, a theoretical model of the laminated composite beams is developed based on the first-order shear deformation beam theory. The present laminated beam takes into account the transverse shear and the restrained warping induced shear deformation. The second-order coupling torque resulting from the geometric nonlinearity is rigorously derived. From the principle of minimum total potential energy, the stability equations and force-displacement relationships are derived and the explicit expressions for the displacement parameters are presented by applying the power series expansions of displacement components to simultaneous ordinary differential equations. Finally, the member stiffness matrix is determined using the force-displacement relationships. In order to show accuracy and superiority of the beam element developed by this study, the critical lateral buckling moments for bisymmetric and monosymmetric I-beams are presented and compared with other results available in the literature, the isoparametric beam elements, and shell elements from ABAQUS.
This paper presents a multi-layer finite element for buckling and free vibration analyses of laminated beams based on a higher-order layer-wise theory. An N-layer beam element with (9N + 7) degrees-of-freedom is proposed for analyses. Delamination and slip between the layers are not allowed. Element matrices for the single- and multi-layer beam elements are derived by Lagrange's equations. Buckling loads and natural frequencies are calculated for different end conditions and lamina stacking. Comparisons are made to show the accuracy of proposed element.
In this study, an accurate 2-noded hybrid-mixed element for continuous fiber-reinforced laminated beams is newly proposed. The present element including the effect of shear deformation is based on Hellinger-Reissner variational principle, and introduces additional consistent node less degrees for displacement field interpolation in order to enhance the numerical performance. The micromechanical and lamination theory are employed in the finite element description to consider the effects of the laminate stacking sequences, material orthotropy, and fiber volume fraction, etc. The element stiffness matrix can be explicitly derived through the stationary condition and static condensation using Mathematica program. Several numerical examples confirm the accuracy of the present hybrid-mixed element and also show in detail the effects of the continuous fiber volume fraction, stacking sequences and boundary condition on the bending behavior of laminated beams.

Active control of flexural vibrations of smart laminated composite beams has been carried out using piezoceramic sensor/actuator and viscoelastic material. The beams with passive constrained-layer damping have been analyzed by formulating the equations of motion through the use of extended Hamilton's principle. The dynamic characteristics such as damping ratio and modal damping of the beam are calculated for various fiber orientations by means of iterative complex eigensolution method, This paper addresses a design strategy of laminated composite under flexural vibrations to design structure with maximum possible damping capacity.
To analyze laminated composite and sandwich beams under temperature loads, a $C^0$-type Reddy's beam theory considering transverse normal strain is proposed in this paper. Although transverse normal strain is taken into account, the number of unknowns is not increased. Moreover, the first derivatives of transverse displacement have been taken out from the in-plane displacement fields, so that the $C^0$ interpolation functions are only required for the finite element implementation. Based on the proposed model, a three-node beam element is presented for analysis of thermal responses. Numerical results show that the proposed model can accurately and efficiently analyze the thermoelastic problems of laminated composites.
In this paper, free vibration finite element analysis of axially moving laminated composite beams subjected to axial tension is studied. It is assumed that the beam has a constant axial velocity and is subject to uniform axial tension. The analysis is based on higher-order theories that have been presented by Carrera Unified Formulation (CUF). In the CUF technique, the three dimensional (3D) displacement fields are expressed as the approximation of the arbitrary order of the displacement unknowns over the cross-section. This higher-order expansion is considered in equivalent single layer (ESL) model. The governing equations of motion are obtained via Hamilton's principle. Finally, several numerical examples are presented and the effect of the ply-angle, travelling speed and axial tension on the natural frequencies and beam stability are demonstrated.

In modern buildings, glass is considered a structurally unsafe material due to its brittleness and unpredictable failure behavior. The possible use of structural glass elements (i.e., floors, beams and columns) is generally prevented by its poor tensile strength and a frequent occurrence of brittle failures. In this study an innovative modelling based on an equivalent thickness concept of laminated glass beam reinforced with FRP (Fiber Reinforced Polymer) composite material and of glass plates punched is presented. In particular, the novel numerical modelling applied to an embedding Carbon FRP-rod in the interlayer of a laminated structural glass beam is considered in order to increase both its failure strength, together with its post-failure strength and ductility. The proposed equivalent modelling of different specimens enables us to carefully evaluate the effects of this reinforcement. Both the responses of the reinforced beam and un-reinforced one are evaluated, and the corresponding results are compared and discussed. A novel equivalent modelling for reinforced glass beams using FRP composites is presented for FEM analyses in modern material components and proved estimations of the expected performance are provided. Moreover, the new suggested numerical analysis is also applied to laminated glass plates with wide holes at both ends for the technological reasons necessary to connect a glass beam to a structure. Obtained results are compared with an integer specimen. Experimental considerations are reported.
