Nurses' Organizational Commitment, Job Satisfaction and Job Stress according to their Adult Attachment Styles (간호사의 성인애착유형에 따른 조직몰입, 직무만족 및 직무스트레스)

  • Purpose: This study was done to compare organizational commitment, job satisfaction and job stress according to nurses' adult attachment styles. Methods: Data were collected by self-report questionnaires measuring Adult attachment style, Organizational commitment, Job satisfaction and Job stress from a convenience sample of 253 shift nurses in a hospital. Results: There were security style (31.2%), dismissing-avoidance (18.6%), preoccupation (17.8%) and fearful-avoidance (32.4%) among 4 attachment styles in these shift nurses. Their organizational commitment level (M=3.2), job satisfaction (M=2.7) and job stress (M=3.3) were revealed. Subjects who were in security attachment style showed significantly higher scores of organizational commitment (F=5.09, p=.002) and job satisfaction (F=13.02, p<.001) than subjects in fearful-avoidance attachment style. Meanwhile, this study showed that subjects who were in fearful-avoidance attachment style recorded significantly higher scores of job stress than subjects in any other attachment style (F=3.15, p=.026). Conclusion: This study demonstrated a relevant difference in organizational commitment, job satisfaction and job stress in accordance with the attachment style of shift nurses. These results indicate the need for attachment promotion program for shift nurses. And nurses' attachment styles should be considered in future interventions to enhance quality of nursing care.

  • This study was to investigate the difference of teachers' job satisfaction according to their conflict management styles. The result of the study showed that accommodating was most prevalent conflict management style and avoiding, compromising, competitive, collaborating styles followed. Overall teachers' job satisfaction was relatively high, but competitive style teachers' satisfaction was lowest.

The Effects of Maternity Apparel Style and Job Type on the likability and the occupational Competence of Pregnant Working Women (직장상황 임산부의 의복스타일과 직업유형이 호의도와 업무수행능력 평가에 미치는 영향)

  • The Purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of maternity apparel style and job type on the likability and the occupational competence of pregnant working women. This study was 3'S factorial design. Independent variables of this study were maternity apparel style(feminine style, neutral style, and masculine style) and job type(assitant manager of bank and salesperson). Dependent variables were the likability and the occupational competence of the stimuli. One hundred eighty college females participated in the study, in which half of the subject viewed the stimuli as a salesperson and the other half as an assistant manager of bank. The results showed that maternity apparel style influenced the perception of likability(F(2,174)=6.97, p<.001) and occupational competence(F(2,174): 16.25, p<.001) significantly. Also lob type influenced the occupational competence(F(1,174) : 3.94, p<.05) signifcantly. There was a significant interaction(F(2,174) : 2.53 p(.10) between maternity apparel style and job type. In future researches, diverse job distinction other than the classification of being professional or non-being professional can be arranged to study the influence of job type. Also it is recommended to explore the interaction between the appearance cues except clothing and job type.

Differences in Job Stress, and Job Satisfaction according to Teaching Style, and Personality of Preceptors (프리셉터의 지도유형과 성격특성에 따른 직무스트레스와 직무만족도의 차이)

  • Purpose: In this study, differences and relationship between teaching style, personality, job stress, and job satisfaction among preceptors were examined. Method: The participants were 121 preceptors. Data were collected in November and December 2010 and analyzed using descriptive statistics, ANOVA, Scheffe's test, and Pearson correlation coefficients. Results: The most frequent teaching style was judgement-initiative, and personality scores were highest for conscientiousness. Job stress was average (3.05${\pm}$.59), and job satisfaction was below the mid-point level (2.76${\pm}$.39). Job stress and job satisfaction were significantly different according to teaching style. Significant correlations were found between personality and job stress, and personality and job satisfaction. Conclusion: These findings indicate that changes in perceived teaching style, and personality may be necessary to decrease job stress, and to promote job satisfaction among preceptors. The results of this study should be considered in the development of effective preceptor training programs.

The Effects of CEO Leadership on Employees' Job Satisfaction in Tourist Hotels (관광호텔 CEO의 리더십이 종사원 직무 만족에 미치는 영향)

  • This study examines the effects of CEO leadership on Employees' job satisfaction in tourist hotels. Samples were the employees working at 10 deluxe hotels in Seoul and a total of 300 copies of the questionnaire were distributed, among which 191 valid ones were used for the analysis. After data cording, answers were processed by SPSS 12.0. As a result of the factor analysis on CEO leadership, 3 factors(management style, settlement style, and work style) were extracted; for employees' job satisfaction, 3 factors(work environment, service environment, and job environment) were extracted. As the results of the study, management style and work style among CEO leadership factors have a statistically positive impact on work environment. Next, management style has a statistically positive impact on service environment. Finally, management style and work style has a statistically positive impact on job environment.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to find out the fact that the empowerment would effect on the job satisfaction with priority given to followership style. Method: The subject of this study were 465 nurses who were employed at 3 general hospital in one university. The data were collected through questionnaires survey of empowerment and job satisfaction, followership style from 26 April to 4 May 2004. Result: The empowerment explained 52% of the job satisfaction. The critical factor were 'Opportunity' and 'Resource'. The followership style were Exemplary followers, Pragmatist followers and Passive followers that the empowerment significantly influenced on the job satisfaction. 1) Exemplary followers, The empowerment explained 69% of the job satisfaction. The critical factor were 'Resource' and 'Support'. 2) Pragmatist followers, The empowerment explained 43% of the job satisfaction. The critical factor were 'Resource' and 'Opportunity'. 3) Passive followers, The empowerment explained 36% of the job satisfaction. The critical factor was the only 'Support'. Conculsions: The empowerment was ascertained to influence on job satisfaction. And It differed the critical factor of empowerment according to followership style. Therefore, Organizational manager must take into account followership style when develope the strategy for organizational effectiveness.

  • This study aims to: 1) analyze the effect of leadership style on job satisfaction and organizational commitment, 2) analyze the effect of leadership style, job satisfaction and organizational commitment on employee performance, 3) examine the indirect effect of leadership style on employee performance mediated by job satisfaction and organizational commitment. The population of this research is all employees who have structural positions totaling 95 respondents. The sample was selected using the census technique, resulting in a total of 95 respondents in the research sample. Methods of data collection was using a questionnaire. The research model is structural so that the research data is analyzed using SEM Smart PLS 2. Research results: 1) leadership style has a positive and significant effect on job satisfaction and organizational commitment, 2) leadership style, job satisfaction, and organizational commitment have a positive and significant effect on employee performance, 3) Job satisfaction and organizational commitment mediates the influence of leadership style on employee performance, and has a positive and significant effect. Indirect influence gives stronger results than direct influence. As a result, it is hoped that university leadership will use an effective leadership style and pay attention to employee work satisfaction and commitment to boost employee performance.

Effect of Social Comparison Orientation and Stress Coping Styles on Job-Seeking Stress of University Students Preparing for Employment (취업 준비 대학생의 사회비교경향성과 스트레스 대처방식이 취업 스트레스에 미치는 영향)

  • This study examined the effects of social comparison orientation and stress coping styles on job-seeking stress experienced by university students. The participants of this study were 324 junior and senior students (151 males and 173 females) from six universities located in Seoul who were preparing for employment. They were asked to respond to a written questionnaire to measure research variables for the Job-Seeking Stress Scale, the Social Comparison Orientation Scale, and the Ways of Coping Checklist. The data were analyzed by means of descriptive statistics and a hierarchical multiple regression. The major findings of this study were as follows. First, social comparison orientation had a positive effect on job-seeking stress of university students, revealing that students with a high level of social comparison orientation were more likely to experience job-seeking stress. Second, both emotion-alleviation coping style and wishful thinking coping style increased level of job-seeking stress. In addition, problem-focused coping style had a negative influence on job-seeking stress, whereas social support seeking coping style had no significant effect on it. The results suggested that it would be possible to reduce job-seeking stress of university students by changing either social comparison or stress coping style.

Job Stress and Organizational Commitment with Regard to Adult Attachment Style of Small and Medium-sized Hospital Nurses (중소병원 간호사의 성인애착유형에 따른 직무스트레스 및 조직몰입)

  • This study was designed to identify the adult attachment style among hospital nurses, and to examine its effect on nurses' job stress and organizational commitment. Self-administered survey questionnaires with structured instruments were developed, and a total of 281 responses from five small to medium-sized hospitals were used for statistical analyses with SPSS Windows version 24.0 program. Major findings of the study are three fold. First, among the four styles of adult attachment, found in 30.6% of survey respondents, stability style was the most popular, followed by fear style(28.5%), disregard style(24.2%), and devotion style(17.8%). Second, according to the general characteristics of study participants, adult attachment style showed a significant difference in age($x^2=23.29$, p=.025). Third, multiple regression analyses showed that hospital nurses with the fear style among other adult attachment styles had a significantly higher job stress compared to those with the stability style. The fear style also affected the nurses' organizational commitment level in a negative way, but the effect was only marginal. Results from this study suggest that customized program based on the nurses' adult attachment style should be developed to enhance their organizational commitment while reducing job stress in small to medium-sized hospitals.

A study on the relationship between leadership style and job attitude: Organizational support as a mediator (리더십 유형과 직무태도간의 관계에 관한 연구 - 조직지원 조절효과를 중심으로 -)

  • This study aims to examine the relationship between job attitude and leadership style perceived by employees in hospital organization. This study have the two purposes; 1) to investigate the relationship between leadership styles and job attitudes(Organizational Commitment and Turnover Intention), 2) to verify the moderate effect of organizational support on the relationship between leadership style and job attitude. We examined the effect of critical leadership styles on the job attitude of employees in hospital organization. Hypotheses on four factors were tested for 7 hospital organizations. In order to test these hypotheses, survey questionnaires were sent to employees of hospital organization in Gyungbuk. As a result, the 185 available data were collected from hospital organization. Correlation analysis and regression had been performed and the results supported hypotheses. The results indicated that it is significant difference between each leadership style and job attitude. Also, organizational support was found to be positively moderated on job attitude.
