The Influence of Formalized Task Environment on the Experience of Job Stress: Focused on Locus of Control as Moderate Variable (공식화된 과업환경과 직무스트레스간의 관계: 통제위치의 조절역할을 중심으로)

  • It was investigated this study how much individual's job stress would be explained by formalized task environment. also, would be explained locus of control as moderate variable. The data used in the study were collected from employees in domestic corporate. After sending the total of 150 questionnaires, 113 responses were returned. Among the returned questionnaires, 9 poor responses were excluded, and the remained 104 copies were analyzed. The final regression model included formalized task environment as statistically significant, but locus of control as statistically non-significant. it was relied on a lack of sample. This study was to open job stress studies up multi level study(individual - organizational level).

A Study on Relation of Job Stress, Heart Rate Variability, Blood Pressure and Lifestyle on White-Collar Workers (사무직 근로자들의 직무 스트레스, 심박 변이성, 혈압 및 생활 습관과의 관계)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the relation of Job Stress, Heart Rate Variability, Blood Pressure and Lifestyle on White-Collar Workers. Method: Data were collected from August to December in 2007. HRV was measured using Freeze-Framer. WSRI and Lifestyle data were collected from the self-reported questionnaire. Result: 1) Total score of WSRI was 32.88, H score was 47.92, L score was 16.90, systolic blood pressure was 138.88mmHg, diastolic blood pressure was 81.20 mmHg. 2) WSRI correlated with L score of HRV, BP, smoking, drinking positively. WSRI correlated with H score, exercise times negatively. H correlated with exercise positively and had negative correlation with BP and L. Systolic pressure correlated with smoking and drinking positively. Conclusion: WSRI, HRV, BP and lifestyle are interrelated strongly and they need to be monitor continually. It is considered that education of health and intervention with HRV make white-collar workers concern more about their health and care.

  • Information on work stress and mental health status of industrial workers was required for optimum staffing and health care management. This study dealt with the relationship between mental health status examined by PSI(psychiatric symptom index) and socio-demographic variables. Especially this study attempted to find relevant determinants of the stress and mental health through multiple stepwise regression analysis based on data obtained from 687 occupational workers. The findings of this study were as follows; Mean scores of symptom dimension were higher in youth, female, more educated, unmarried and divorced, and workers in the noisy condition and short duration in job. And it showed high scores in long duration in job for anxiety; college educated for anger; unmarried for cognitive disturbance. The factors affecting the mean scores of psychiatric symptom index were varied according to the types of symptom: age, sex and duration in job for anxiety; age, sex, living with parent, education and marital status for anger; sex and marital status for depression; noisy condition and sex for cognitive disorder.

Job Stress, Organizational Commitment, Way of Coping and Turnover Intention among Korean Visiting Nurses (방문간호사의 직무스트레스, 조직몰입 및 대처방법과 이직의도)

  • Purpose: The purpose of the study was to identify factors related to turnover intention among Korean visiting nurses. Methods: The data from 192 of 208 nurses working in southern part of Korea were collected for analysis during in-service education in May 19~20, 2011. Descriptive statistics, chi-square tests, ANOVA, and logistic regression analysis were performed using SPSS 19.0 program. Results: Among the general characteristic factors, young, married, university graduation, lower satisfaction with income and longer work experience as a nurse were associated with higher odds of turnover intention. Organizational commitment was associated with low turnover intention. Way of coping was not statistically significantly associated with turnover intension. Conclusion: Stress from the organizational system was found to be the most important variable that explains the turnover intention in this study. Use of sensible communication methods and introduction of effective conflict resolution system is suggested to reduce turnover intention. Further research is recommended to identify the job demands and organizational systems of visiting nurses.

Effects of a violent experience and job stress on burnout in female 119 emergency medical technicians (여성 119구급대원의 폭력경험과 직무스트레스가 소진에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of a violent experience and job stress on burnout and to investigate the factors that affect burnout in female 119 emergency medical technicians. Methods: Data from 189 female EMTs were collected using a structured questionnaire. The data were analyzed using SPSS 23.0. The analyses included descriptive statistics, independent t-tests, analysis of variance, Scheffe test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple linear regression. Results: Burnout was positively correlated with a violent experience in female 119 EMTs. Violent experience (β=.39, p<.001) were a significant predictor of burnout in 15.2% of female 119 EMTs. Conclusion: A violent experience is identified as a significant factor affecting burnout in female 119 EMTs. Therefore, it is necessary to impart education to female 119 EMTs on effectively coping with violence.

Working Conditions and Health Status of Delivery Workers (배달종사자의 근로환경과 건강)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare working condition and health status between parcel delivery workers (PDW) and food delivery workers (FDW) and to examine the factors influencing their health status. Methods: This was a secondary analysis of data collected from the fifth Korean Working Conditions Survey (KWCS). Based on existing literature, a set of variables was chosen from the KWCS. Results: The proportion of PDW who carryied/moved heavy loads and experienced high job stress and lack of rest time was significantly higher than that of FDW. However, more FDW than their counterparts worked atypical hours. The differences in fatigue and well-being between PDW and FDW were not statistically significant. The multiple logistic regression analysis revealed low temperature, tobacco smoke, standing for long periods, and job stress were significant predictors of fatigue or well-being of FDW. Among PDW, noise, tobacco smoke, sitting for long periods, quantitative demands, hiding emotions, support from colleagues, job stress, no recovery period, and night work were significant predictors of fatigue or well-being. Conclusion: The findings of this study may be useful in developing nursing interventions for disease protection health promotion of delivery workers.

Factors Influencing Professional Quality of Life in Intensive Care Unit Nurses of University Hospitals (대학병원 중환자실 간호사의 전문직 삶의 질 영향요인)

  • Purpose : This study aimed to identify the factors influencing the professional quality of life of intensive care unit (ICU) nurses working in university hospitals. Methods : A survey was conducted on 171 ICU nurses in university hospitals in B City, South Korea. This study used the Professional Quality of Life instrument, which consists of three subscales, namely, compassion satisfaction, burnout, and secondary traumatic stress. Data were analyzed using stepwise multiple regression analysis. Results : Compassion satisfaction was influenced by resilience, ICU job satisfaction, and innovation-oriented culture, and these variables explained 37.1% of the variance in compassion satisfaction. Burnout was influenced by resilience, a hierarchy-oriented culture, and ICU job satisfaction, and these variables explained 42.9% of the variance in burnout. Secondary traumatic stress was influenced by a task-oriented culture and resilience, and these variables explained 12.5% of the variance in secondary traumatic stress. Conclusion : These findings suggest the importance of improving resilience and job satisfaction to enhance the professional quality of life in ICU nurses. Moreover, creating an innovation-oriented culture rather than a hierarchical and task-oriented culture can effectively improve the professional quality of life of ICU nurses.

Effects of Job Stress and Teaching Efficacy on Organizational Commitment of Nursing Professors (간호학과 교수의 직무 스트레스와 교수 효능감이 조직 몰입도에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify how job stress and teaching efficacy impacted organizational commitment. Methods: Data were collected from 158 nursing professors via an online survey, from Jan to June 2019. Results: The study found that four factors affected the organizational commitment of nursing professors: i) type of nursing institution in which they are currently employed (β=-.16, p=.030), ii) position as an assistant professor (β=-.37, p=.012) and an associate professor (β=-.44, p=.002), iii) salary in the 50-59 million won range (β=.20, p=.024), and above 60 million won (β=.41, p<.001), and iv) professor's teaching efficacy (β=-.18, p<.016). Conclusion: To increase the organizational commitment of four-year university professors, job characteristics should be considered. In the case of lower positions and salaries, additional compensation and programs that increase school affiliation should be introduced. Teaching methods training, lecture evaluation monitoring programs, and clinical training may also improve teaching efficacy.

  • This study is a survey and research attempted to seek the ways of effective human resource management and improving the quality of nursing - targeting the nurses working for the general hospitals - by analyzing the impact of job satisfaction and job stress factors on exhaustion and turnover intentions, so as to find the nurses' turnover factors and remove those factors in advance. Although we cannot raise job satisfaction to the level we are satisfied by monetary compensation, i.e. salary alone, but as seen in this study, it is worth considering such ways as the subjects with high salaries showed relatively higher job satisfaction. Finally, in order to prevent the turnover of the competent nursing staff at an early stage, active systematic supplements and efforts are required; it is also necessary to provide constant job training, by taking into account of the specificity of nursing units and to secure and place adequate nursing staff, and to establish fair and objective promotion criteria.

Content Analysis of Correctional Nurses' Job Stressors (교정간호사의 직무 스트레스 원인에 대한 내용분석)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify correctional nurses' job stressors. Method: The data were collected from 51 correctional nurses using a self-completion questionnaire. To analyze data, content analysis was done using an analysis scheme developed by the investigators. Results: 160 significant statements were analyzed and categorized. The analysis scheme consisted of 8 categories and 23 subcategories. 8 categories analyzed by the investigators were as follow: relationship with other corrections staffs, overloaded work, career development, role conflict, work environment, relationship with patients, legal & ethical dilemma and administration environment. Conclusions: The correctional nurses' job need legal support from society and systematic support to improve nurses' job satisfaction.
