  • Focusing on the strength of son preference obtained from two surveys of the same area, an attempt has been made to measure the change on the IS value scale that many have occurred over the last seven-year period, the underlying assumption here being that the strength of son preference wanes in inverse proportion to the level of society's socio-economic development. Various methodological approaches have been put to test to weigh the importance of the sex preference as a dependent variable, as an independent variable, and as an intermediate variable. A few methodological issues are suggested.

  • The effect of neutron irradiation on the chemical properties was measured in boric acid solution. The pH of the solution decreased in proportion to the irradiation time and the concentration of boric acid. The concentration of hydrogen peroxide, which is one of the radiolysis products of water, is in proportion to the concentration of boric acid, while in inverse proportion to the irradiation time. The oxygen and hydrogen gases had same chemically equivalent ratio in water radiolysis. The lithiun, which comes from $^{10}B(n,{\alpha})^7Li$, had poor relationship with neutron irradiation time at low concentration, $233{\sim}699{\mu}g/mL$, of boric acid, but the relationship was improved at higher concentration.

  • This study was made to investigate various engineering properties of earth materials resulting from their changes in density and moisture content. The results obtained in this study are summarized as follows: 1. The finner the grain size is, the bigger the Optimum Moisture Content(OMC) is, showing a linear relationship between percent passing of NO. 200 Sieve (n) and OMC(Wo) which can be represented by the equation Wo=0.186n+8.3 2. There is a linear relationship of inverse proportion between OMC and Maximum Dry Density (MDD) which can be represented by the equation ${\gamma}$d=2.167-0.026Wo 3. There is an exponential curve relationship between void ratio (es) and MDD whose equation can be expressed ${\gamma}$d=2.67e-0.4550.9), indicating that as MDD increases, void ratio decreases. 4. The coefficent of permeability increases in proportion to decrease of the MDD and this increase trend is more obvious in coarse material than in fine material, and more obvious in cohesionless soil than in cohesive soil. 5. Even in the same density, the coefficient of permeability is smaller in wet than in dry from the Optimum Moisture Content. 6. Showing that unconfined compressive strength increases in proportion to dry density increase, in unsaturated state the compacted in dry has bigger strength value than the compacted in wet. On the other hand, in saturated state, the compacted in dry has a trend to be smaller than the compacted in wet. 7. Even in the same density, unconfined compressive strength increases in proportion to cohesion, however, when in small density and in saturated state, this relationship are rejected. 8. In unsaturated state, cohesion force is bigger in dry than in wet from OMC. In saturated state, on the other hand, it is directly praportional to density. 9. Cohesion force decreases in proportion to compaction rate decrease. And this trend is more evident in coarse matorial than in fine material. 10. Internal friction angle of soil is not influenced evidently on the changes of moisture content and compaction rate in unsaturated state, On the other hand in saturated state it is influenced density. 11. Cohesion force is directly proportional to unconfined compressive strength(qu), indicating that it has approximately 35 percent of qu in unsaturated state and approximately 70 percent of qu in saturated state.

  • Effects of mustard seed(Brassica juncea) on the preservation of raw gizzard-shad slice were investigated, morphological change of Vibrio Parahaemolyticus treated with water-extract of mustard seed was examined, the results are as following. The pH of raw gizzard-shad slice soaked in water with mustard seed slightly increased during preservation, and the pH was in inverse proportion to the added amount of mustard seed. The number of bacteria and Vibrio of raw gizzard-shad slice treated with mustard seed were lower than control, and the higher the mustard seed concentration, the lower the number of bacteria and Vibrio. The TMA-N content of raw gizzard-shad slice gradually increased during preservation, and the TMA-N was in inverse proportion to the added amount of mustard seed. Scanning electron microscopy of Vibrio Parahaemolyticus treated with water extract of mustard seed showed that surface membrane was destroyed with expended ellipsoidal shape.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the error patterns and sentence types in word problems with respect to 1$\frac{3}{4}$$\div$$\frac{1}{2}$ which were made by the pre-service elementary teachers, and to suggest the clues to the education in pre-service. Korean elementary teachers in pre-service misunderstood 'divide with $\frac{1}{2}$' to 'divide to 2' by the Korean linguistic structure. And they showed a new error type of 1$\frac{3}{4}$$\times$2 by the result of calculation. Although they are familiar to 'inclusive algorithm' they are not good at dealing with the fractional divisor. And they are very poor at the 'decision the unit proportion' and the 'inverse of multiplication'. So, it is necessary to teach the meaning of the fractional division as 'decision the unit proportion' and 'inverse of multiplication' and to give several examples with respect to the actual situation and context.

  • Background: This study is designed to estimate the factors that affect the level of three different performance (publicity, efficiency, profitability) among regional public hospitals. Methods: The units of analysis are the regional 30 hospitals, which have the operating data during 22 years (from 1933 to 2014). The research method is used by fixed panel analysis. The publicity is measured by medicaid outpatient proportion and medicaid inpatient proportion. The efficiency is measured by two types of efficient score by DEA (data envelopment analysis). The profitability is measured by medical income to medical revenue and ROA (return on total asset). Results: At first, the increase of bed gives negative affect to the publicity but give positive effect to the efficiency and profitability. Because it means the increase of the region population, it gives more profitability compare to hospital with small number of beds. The more the operating period is the higher effect to the publicity and efficiency because of it's refutation. The debt ratio gives negative effect to publicity, but positive effect to profitability. It is the normal belief that there is inverse relationship between publicity and profitability. The turnover rate of bed gives the negative affect to the publicity, but positive affect to the efficiency and profitability. That give us the implication that type of the inpatient make different effect the hospital performance. The ratio of labor cost give negative effect to all kind of performance. That means that the higher labor cost don't mean the higher publicity and labor cost control is very important factors to hospital performance. So the region hospital have to focus the labor factors more to make higher performance. Conclusion: As the conclusion, the independent variables give similar effect to the efficiency and the profitability, but give inverse effect to the publicity. That means that if an region hospital want to make the more publicity, it loss the higher efficiency and profitability. Specially publicity is higher negative relation with the profitability.

  • In general Information retrieval systems, improper keywords are often extracted and different search results are offered comparing to user's aim bacause the systems use only term frequency informations for selecting keywords and don't consider their meanings. It represents that improving precision is limited without considering semantics of keywords because recall ratio and precision have inverse proportion relation. In this paper, a system which is able to improve precision without decreasing recall ratio is designed and implemented, as client user module is introduced which can send feedbacks to server with user's intention. For this purpose, keywords are selected using relative term frequency and inverse document frequency and co-occurrence words are extracted from original documents. Then, the keywords are clustered by their semantics using calculated mutual informations. In this paper, the system can reject inappropriate documents using segmented semantic informations according to feedbacks from client user module. Consequently precision of the system is improved without decreasing recall ratio.

  • This study dealt with the characteristics and the interrelations of hydrogeological parameters such as hydraulic conductivity, dispersivity and effective porosity of unconsolidated sediments for providing the basic data necessary for the planning of the management and preservation of groundwater quality in the Nakdong River Delta of Busan City, Korea. Groundwater quality in this area has been deteriorated due to seawater intrusion, agricultural fertilizer and pesticide, industrial wastewater, and contaminated river water. The physical properties (grain size distribution, sediment type, sorting) and aquifer parameters (hydraulic conductivity, effective porosity, longitudinal dispersivity) were determined from grain size analysis, laboratory permeability test and column tracer test. Among 36 samples, there were 18 Sand (S), 7 Gravelly Sand (gS), 5 Silty Sand (zS), 5 Muddy Sand (mS), and 1 Sandy Silt (sZ). Hydraulic conductivity was determined through a falling head test, and ranged from $9.2{\times}10^{-5}$ to $2.9{\times}10^{-2}cm/sec$ (0.08 to 25.6 m/day). From breakthrough curves, dispersivity was calculated to be 0.35~3.92 cm. Also, effective porosity and average linear velocity were obtained through the column tracer test, and their values were 0.04~0.46 and 1.06E-04~6.49E-02 cm/sec, respectively. Statistical methods were used to understand the interrelations among aquifer parameters of hydraulic conductivity, effective porosity and dispersivity. The relation between dispersivity and hydraulic conductivity or effective porosity considered the sample length, because dispersivity was affected by experimental scale. The relations between dispersivity and hydraulic conductivity or effective porosity were all in inverse proportion for all long and short samples. The reason was because dispersivity was in inverse proportion to the groundwater velocity in case of steady hydrodynamic dispersion coefficient, and groundwater velocity was in proportion to the hydraulic conductivity or effective porosity. This study also elucidated that longitudinal dispersivity was dependent on the scale of column tracer test, and all hydrogeological parameters were low to high values due to the sand quantity of sediments. It is expected that the hydrogeological parameter data of sediments will be very useful for the planning of groundwater management and preservation in the Nakdong River Delta of Busan City, Korea.

  • Copper thin films were deposited on a Cu/Ta/Si substrate using the electroplating technique. Deposition rate was about 200 nm/min in proportion to current density and in inverse proportion to flow rate. Resistivity of copper thin film was approximately 2.1 ${\mu}$Ωcm and Int$\sub$(111)//Int$\sub$(200)/ ratio of copper film was 5.4 and no significant impurities were detected. After the deposition, electroplating copper films were annealed at various temperatures in a background pressure of 10$\^$-3/ torr. The resistivity of copper thin films were improved by ∼17 % and texture was improved by ∼40 % after annealing at 170$^{\circ}C$. The stress in films was not reduced much after annealing below 170$^{\circ}C$.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate replacing possibility of sucrose by sugar alcohols and to establish the optimum formula for the development of sugar cookies. The characteristics of sugar cookies prepared with xylitol, maltitol, lactitol, isomalt substituted for 35, 50, 75, 100% of sucrose were examined through physical measurement and sensory evaluation. The spread ratio of cookies containing sugar alcohols except xylitol was superior to that of control cookies(sucrose 100%) and the use of lactitol increased the spread ratio of cookies. The specific gravity of cookies containing sugar alcohols except xylitol was lower than that of control cookies. Therefore spread ratio was in inverse proportion to specific gravity. As the proportion of sugar alcohols increased in cookie formula, surface color of cookies was getting lighter than that of control cookies. Especially cookies containing xylitol, maltitol was getting lighter as the levels of replacement increased. Overall quality of cookies with sugar alcohols containing sensory analysis was superior to that of control cookies.
