  • In this paper, inverse constrained minimum spanning tree problem under Hamming distance. Such an inverse problem is to modify the weights with bound constrains so that a given feasible solution becomes an optimal solution, and the deviation of the weights, measured by the weighted Hamming distance, is minimum. We present a strongly polynomial time algorithm to solve the inverse constrained minimum spanning tree problem under Hamming distance.

  • In the study, the flow stress of material and friction condition were determined by using the cylinder compression test and numerical method. We proposed the flow stress equation including the initial yield strength to predict it from the upper bound method. The upper bound technique uses the velocity field which includes two unknowns to effectively express bulging. Also, inverse engineering technique uses the object function to minimize area enclosed by load-stroke curve. The friction factor is determined from the radius of curvature of the barrel by cylinder compression test. Flow stress and initial yield strength predicted from the above techniques are verified through the finite element simulation.

  • Wheel chair bound persons need assistance since there are many steps or curbs or other obstacles blocking their path in the roadways and walkways. Although a step may be small, it may be very difficult for such a person to climb over it. Therefore, we are proposing a power assist wheel chair robot that enables a wheel chair bound person to climb over steps up to about 10 centimeters in height without assistance from others. AN UPPER BOUND ON THE CHEEGER CONSTANT OF A DISTANCE-REGULAR GRAPH

  • We present an upper bound on the Cheeger constant of a distance-regular graph. Recently, the authors found an upper bound on the Cheeger constant of distance-regular graph under a certain restriction in their previous work. Our new bound in the current paper is much better than the previous bound, and it is a general bound with no restriction. We point out that our bound is explicitly computable by using the valencies and the intersection matrix of a distance-regular graph. As a major tool, we use the discrete Green's function, which is defined as the inverse of ${\beta}$-Laplacian for some positive real number ${\beta}$. We present some examples of distance-regular graphs, where we compute our upper bound on their Cheeger constants.

Study on the Relationship between Epidermal Barrier Function and Cornified Envelope (CE)-Bound Lipids

  • The importance of cornified envelope (CE)-bound lipids to epidermal barrier function is increasingly being recognized. In the present study, we intentionally damaged the cornified layer of hairless mice by ultraviolet irradiation and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) treatment, and assessed the changes in epidermal barrier function by measuring Trans Epidermal Water Loss (TEWL). We also measured changes in the amount of CE-bound lipids using thin layer chromatography (TLC). The results showed that both treatments increased TEWL and decreased CE-bound lipids (omega-hydroxy cerami de and omega-hydroxy acid). In addition, investigation of the chronological changes in TEWL revealed an inverse relationship between TEWL and CE-bound lipids, and a correlation between CE-bound lipids and epidermal barrier function. We then measured the amount of CE-bound lipids in the cheek and the medial side of the upper arm in humans. The results showed that because the cheek receives external stimulation on a daily basis, the amount of CE-bound lipids was significantly lower, while the level of TEWL was higher. These observations, together with those from the animal study, indicate that CE-bound lipids are related to epidermal barrier function.

  • The existence and representations of some generalized inverses, including ${A_{T,*}}^{(2)},\;{A_{T,*}}^{(1,2)},\;{A_{T,*}}^{(2,3)},\;{A_{*,S}}^{(2)},\;{A_{*,S}}^{(1,2)}\;and\;{A_{*,S}}^{(2,4)}$, are showed. As applications, the perturbation theory for the generalized inverse {A_{T,S}}^{(2)} and the perturbation bound for unique solution of the general restricted system $A_{x}$ = b(dim(AT)=dimT, $b{\in}AT$ and $x{\in}T$) are studied. Moreover, a characterization and representation of the generalized inverse ${A_{T,*}}^{(2)}$ is obtained.

Parameter estimation of four-parameter viscoelastic Burger model by inverse analysis: case studies of four oil-refineries

  • This paper reports the development of a generalized inverse analysis formulation for the parameter estimation of four-parameter Burger model. The analysis is carried out by formulating the problem as a mathematical programming formulation in terms of identification of the design vector, the objective function and the design constraints. Thereafter, the formulated constrained nonlinear multivariable problem is solved with the aid of fmincon: an in-built constrained optimization solver module available in MatLab. In order to gain experience, a synthetic case-study is considered wherein key issues such as the determination and setting up of variable bounds, global optimality of the solution and minimum number of data-points required for prediction of parameters is addressed. The results reveal that the developed technique is quite efficient in predicting the model parameters. The best result is obtained when the design variables are subjected to a lower bound without any upper bound. Global optimality of the solution is achieved using the developed technique. A minimum of 4-5 randomly selected data-points are required to achieve the optimal solution. The above technique has also been adopted for real-time settlement of four oil refineries with encouraging results.

  • This work presents a deterministic channel that rules according to inverse a power propagation law. The proposed channel model allows us to derive the lower bound and upper bound of packet's capture probability in Rayleigh fading and shadowing cellular mobile system. According to these capture probabilities, we analyze the system performance in the case of finite stations and finite communicated coverage of a base station. We also adopted a dynamic backoff window size to discuss the robustness of IEEE 802.11 draft standard. Some suggestions and conclusions from numerical results are given to establish the more strong CSMA/CA protocol.

  • For a connected graph G = (V, E), its inverse degree is defined as $\sum_{{\upsilon}{\in}{V}}^{}\frac{1}{d(\upsilon)}$. Using an upper bound for the inverse degree of a graph obtained by Cioabă in [4], we in this note present sufficient conditions for some Hamiltonian properties and k-connectivity of a graph.
