This study intends to compare the way of introducing fractions in elementary mathematics textbooks of south and those of north Korea. After thorough investigations of the seven differences were identified. First, the mathematics textbooks of south Korea use concrete materials like apples when they introduce equal partition context, while those of north Korea do not use that kind of concrete materials. Second, in the textbooks of south Korea, equal partition of discrete quantities are considered after continuous ones are introduced. This is different from the approach of the north Korean text-books in which both quantities are regarded at the same time. Third, the quantitative fraction which refers to the rational number with unit of measure at the end of it, is hardly used in the textbooks of south. However, the textbooks of north Korea use it as the main representations of fractions. Fourth, in the textbooks of south Korea, vanous activities related to fractions are more emphasized, while in the textbooks of north Korea, various meanings of fractions textbooks from south and north Korea focused on the ways of introducing partition approach and equivalence relation as operational schemes of fractions, the following play an important role before defining fraction. Fifth, the textbooks of south Korea introduce equivalent fractions with number one using number bar, and do not consider the reason why that sort of fractions are regarded. On the contrary, the textbooks of north Korea introduce structural equivalence relation by using various contexts including length measure and volume measure situations. Sixth, whereas real-life contexts are provided for introducing equivalent fractions in the textbooks of south Korea, visual explanations and mathematical representations play an important role in the textbooks of north Korea. Seventh, the means of finding equivalent fractions are provided directly in the textbooks of south Korea, whereas the nature of equivalent fractions and the methods of making equivalent fractions are considered in the textbooks of north Korea.
This article compares and analyzes mathematics textbooks of North Korea, South Korea, China and Japan and draws meaningful ways for introducing the division algorithm of fractions. The analysis is based on the five contexts: 'measurement division', 'determination of a unit rate', 'reduction of the quantities in the same measure', 'division as the inverse of multiplication or Cartesian product', 'analogy with multiplication algorithm of fractions'. The main focus of the analysis is what context is used to introduce the algorithm and how much it can appeal to students. This analysis supports that there is a few differences of introducing methods the division algorithm of fractions among those countries and more meaningful way can be considered than ours. It finally suggests that we teach the algorithm in a way which can have students easily see the reason of multiplying the reciprocal of a divisor when they divide with fractions. For this, we need to teach the meaning of a reciprocal of fraction and consider to use the context of determination of a unit rate.
In this study, I compared and analyzed the contents of Korean, Japanese, Singapore, American, and Finnish textbooks about fraction which is one of the important and difficult concepts in elementary school mathematics. This is aimed to get the implications for meaningful fractional teaching and learning by analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of the methods and time of introducing the concept because fraction has the diversity of the sub-concepts and the introducing methods or process. As a result of the analysis, the fraction was introduced as part-whole(area) in all five countries' textbooks, but the use of number line, conversion between improper fraction and mixed number, whether to deal with part-whole(set) model. Furthermore, there are differences in the methods in obtaining of the equivalent fraction and the order of arrangement in comparison of fraction. Through this analysis, we discussed the reconsideration of the introducing contexts of fractions, the use of number line when introducing fractions, and the problem of segmentation and classification of contents.

The purpose of analysis of foreign curriculums and textbooks is to aimed to get the implications for the revision of curriculum, publishment of textbooks and teaching mathematics. In this study, Common Core State Standards and its textbooks was analyzed. The U. S. doesn't have the national mathematics curriculum. So, it can be happen some problems: students' lower mathematical achievement, assessment policy, decision of teaching contents, etc. In 2010, Common Core State Standards was developed by states. Furthermore, The California Department of Education reshaped standards: CA-CCSSM. This study analyzed the contents of fraction in CA-CCSSM and its textbooks. Fraction has many concepts and methods and models in teaching process. This study analyzed the equal parts, introducing fraction concept, the types of fraction, equivalent fractions, comparison of fractions. The conclusions are as follows; The equal parts are the important concept of fraction and introduced in geometry area before teaching of fraction. CA-CCSSM aims to understand a fraction as a number on the number line and represent fractions on a number line diagram. There are some similarity and difference in mixed number, fractions as a division and ratio, equivalent fractions and comparison of fractions between Korean curriculum and textbooks and CA-CCSSM.
This study focuses on the teaching of fraction related to curriculum, introducing time of fraction, the meaning of fractions in textbook, material of teaching of fraction concept, teaching model of introducing time of fraction concept, special cases of teaching fraction and common points of representation of fraction among Korea, New Zealand and Singapore. For this study, Korea's mathematics textbooks(3-1, 3-2, 4-1, 5-1, 6-1) and New National Curriculum Mathematics(3, 4, 5. 6. 7)of New Zealand and New Syllabus Primary Mathematics(2B, 3B, 4A, 4B, 5A, 6A)of Singapore were selected for comparison and analysis. As a results we will suggest a reference to the development of mathematical curriculum, teaching fraction and improving the quality of the textbook through a method of comparative analysis of Korea, New Zealand and Singapore.

This study examines the introduction of fractions in the third grade mathematics textbooks focusing on stages of units coordination and suggests alternative activities to help students develop their understanding of fractions. As results, the sessions of introduction units in textbooks was well organized to allow students to construct more extensive fraction schemes (i.e., Part-whole fraction scheme → Partitive unit fraction scheme → Partitive fraction scheme). However, most of the activities in textbooks were related to stages 1 and 2 of units coordination. In particular, the operations and partitioning schemes (i.e., equi-partitioning and splitting schemes), which are key to the development of students' fraction knowledge, were not explicitly revealed. Fraction schemes also did not extend to the Iterative fraction scheme, which is central to the construction of improper fractions. Based on these results, this study is expected to provide implications for the introduction of fractions in textbooks focusing on stages of units coordination to teachers and textbook developers.
This paper deals with a mathematical approach for finding the time-fractions for the time-fraction based scheduling method in multimedia wireless networks. By introducing a constraint that regulates the performance fairness amongst users, we present a systematic method for harmonizing both the system and user performance. Numerical results show that the time-fraction based scheduling method reinforced with our scheme is very effective especially in multimedia environments.
Low Reynolds number, dilute, and surfactant-free bubble suspensions are prepared by mechanical mixing after introducing carbon dioxide bubbles into a Newtonian liquid, polyol. The apparent shear viscosity is measured with a wide-gap parallel plate rheometer by imposing a simple shear flow of capillary numbers(Ca) of the order of $10^{-2}$ ~ $10^{-1}$ and for various gas volume fractions ($\phi$). Effects of capillary numbers and gas volume fractions on the viscosity of polyol foam are investigated. At high capillary number, viscosity of the suspension increases as the gas volume fraction increases, while at low capillary number, the viscosity decreases as the gas volume fraction increases. An empirical constitutive equation that is similar to the Frankel and Acrivos equation is proposed by fitting experimental data. A numerical simulation for deformation of a single bubble suspended in a Newtonian fluid is conducted by using a newly developed two-dimensional numerical code using a finite volume method (FVM). Although the bubble is treated by a circular cylinder in the two dimensional analysis, numerical results are in good agreement with experimental results.
The characteristics of soot vaporization induced by a high-energy Pulsed laser were studied in an ethylene-air laminar flame. A system consisting of two pulsed lasers was used for the experiments. The pulse from the first laser was used to vaporize the soot particles, and the delayed pulse from the second laser was used to measure the residual soot volume fraction. Laser-induced soot vaporization was characterized according to the initial particle size distribution. The results indicated that soot particles could not be completely vaporized simply by introducing a high intensity laser pulse. Residual soot volume fractions present after vaporization appeared to be insensitive to the initial soot particle size distribution. Since the soot vaporization effect is more pronounced in the region of high soot concentrations, this laser-induced soot vaporization technique may be a very useful tool for measuring major species in highly sooting flame.
Most of the early studies on plates vibration are focused on two-dimensional theories, these theories reduce the dimensions of problems from three to two by introducing some assumptions in mathematical modeling leading to simpler expressions and derivation of solutions. However, these simplifications inherently bring errors and therefore may lead to unreliable results for relatively thick plates. The main objective of this research paper is to present 3-D elasticity solution for free vibration analysis of continuously graded carbon nanotube-reinforced (CGCNTR) rectangular plates resting on two-parameter elastic foundations. The volume fractions of oriented, straight single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) are assumed to be graded in the thickness direction. In this study, an equivalent continuum model based on the Eshelby-Mori-Tanaka approach is employed to estimate the effective constitutive law of the elastic isotropic medium (matrix) with oriented, straight carbon nanotubes (CNTs). The proposed rectangular plates have two opposite edges simply supported, while all possible combinations of free, simply supported and clamped boundary conditions are applied to the other two edges. The formulations are based on the three-dimensional elasticity theory. A semi-analytical approach composed of differential quadrature method (DQM) and series solution is adopted to solve the equations of motion. The fast rate of convergence of the method is demonstrated and comparison studies are carried out to establish its very high accuracy and versatility. The 2-D differential quadrature method as an efficient and accurate numerical tool is used to discretize the governing equations and to implement the boundary conditions. The convergence of the method is demonstrated and to validate the results, comparisons are made between the present results and results reported by well-known references for special cases treated before, have confirmed accuracy and efficiency of the present approach. The novelty of the present work is to exploit Eshelby-Mori-Tanaka approach in order to reveal the impacts of the volume fractions of oriented CNTs, different CNTs distributions, various coefficients of foundation and different combinations of free, simply supported and clamped boundary conditions on the vibrational characteristics of CGCNTR rectangular plates. The new results can be used as benchmark solutions for future researches.
