  • It is necessary to employ the interpolation technique to resolve problems, which are associated with the characteristic locus in time-distance space, in the unsteady analysis of pipe flow. Various interpolation methods such as linear timeline interpolation, linear spaceline interpolation, wave speed adjustment, cubic spaceline interpolation and cubic timeline interpolation have been suggested and tested to investigate the interpolation error. Performance of various interpolation techniques was evaluated both a single pipeline and a complex one. The range of error was calculated as the courant number varied between 0 and 1 in a single pipeline. Reorganization of computational element and proper selection of interpolation method are found to be prerequisites for the effective computation of unsteady analysis.

  • H.264 suggests applying a 2-D 6-tap wiener filter to realize the interpolation for half-pixel positions, followed by a bilinear interpolation to get the data of quarter-pixels precision. This method is comparatively simpler; however, it only considers the affection of 4-connection neighborhood ignoring the influence that comes from the changing rate between respective neighborhoods. As a result, it has the characteristics of a Low-pass filter under the risk of losing high-frequency weights. The Cubic interpolation uses the gray-values within the larger regions of points to be sampled for interpolation. Nevertheless, the cubic interpolation is more complicated and computational. We give a deep analysis on the features while applying both bilinear and cubic interpolation in H.264 presenting a proper selection of interpolation algorithm with respect to specific distribution of gray-value in a certain grand block. The experiments point out that load far motion searching and interpolation are reduced when promoting the precision of interpolation simultaneously.

  • The interpolator is usually built in hardware (logic circuitry), and the interpolator fabricated in a single LSI chip is recently made use of in most NC controllers, making the system more compact. However, the LSI interpolator not only has the technical difficulties but also requires high cost, in its fabrication. To solve these problems, we tried to find the method of interpolation by software, and succeeded in developing a program which, executed by INTEL's 8085 microprocessor, can distribute the input pulses of up to 4.0 [Kpps] for the linear interpolation and 3.0 [Kpps] for the circular interpolation. This paper presents the algorithm used to reduce the execution time and the flow chart of the interpolation program, and also shows the possibility of software interpolation. The interpolation program designed in assembly language is presented in the appendix.

  • Generation of a Digital Elevation Model (DEM) in remote sensing is an important application. The process of DEM generation often requires interpolation. This paper is aimed to introduce a class of interpolation algorithms using spectral information, which is widely used in geophysical applications, and to examine the applicability of the method to DEM interpolation. The interpolation process can be explained in two steps. The first step is for finding spectral information from the known data and the second step is finding missing data so as to follow the spectral trend found in the previous step. The interpolation algorithm has been tested for a real DEM data and problems in the DEM interpolation are discussed.

  • The objective of this study is to analyze the decay characteristics of the hat interpolation wavelet coefficients of some smooth functions defined in a two-dimensional space. The motivation of this research is to establish some fundamental mathematical foundations needed in justifying the adaptive multiresolution analysis of the hat-interpolation wavelet-Galerkin method. Though the hat-interpolation wavelet-Galerkin method has been successful in some classes of problems, no complete error analysis has been given yet. As an effort towards this direction, we give estimates on the decaying ratios of the wavelet coefficients at children interpolation points to the wavelet coefficient at the parent interpolation point. We also give an estimate for the difference between non-adaptively and adaptively interpolated representations.

  • A high-speed directional interpolation algorithm based on the pattern of a $2{\times}2$ pixel block is proposed in this paper. The basic concept of the proposed algorithm is started from UDWT(un-decimated discrete wavelet transform), but there are no transform operations. In order to detect the direction of the edge, 4-pixel differences of two pairs in the $2{\times}2$ block are compared. The $2{\times}2$ block patterns are grouped into total 8 classes, and thereafter the directional interpolation is executed according to the type of the pattern. Since the calculation of the proposed algorithm is very simple and needs a few additions on integer data type, the computation time is almost same as that of bilinear interpolation algorithm. However, experimental results show that the output quality of the proposed one is better than those of the conventional interpolation ones in the objective quality and the computation time.

  • This paper presents an 125MHz, 128-phase phase-locked loop using interpolation technique for digital timing recovery. To reduce the power consumption and chip area, phase interpolation was performed over only selected windows, instead of overall period. Four clocks were used for phase interpolation to avoid the output jitter increase due to the interpolation clock (clock used for phase interpolation) switching. Also, the output clock was fed back to finite-state machine (FSM) where the multiplexer selection signals are generated to eliminate the possible output glitches. The PLL implemented in a $0.25\mu\textrm{m}$ CMOS process and dissipates 80mW at 2.5V supply and occupies $0.84\textrm{mm}^2.

  • The Lagrangian dispserion of fluid particles in inhomogeneous turbulence is investigated by a direct numerical simulation of turbulent channel flow. Fluid particle velocity and acceleration along a particle trajectory are computed by employing several interpolation schemes such as linear interpolation, high-order Lagrange polynomial interpolation and the Hermite interpolation schemes. The performances of the schemes are evaluated through comparison of errors in computed particle positions, velocities and accelerations against spectral interpolation. Adopting the four-point Hermite interpolation in the homogeneous directions and Chebyshev polynomials in the wall-normal direction appears to produce most reliable Lagrangian statistics including acceleration correlations with a reasonable amount of computational overhead.

  • Image interpolation is a technique that pervades many an application. Interpolation is almost never the goal in itself, yet it affects both the desired results and the ways to obtain them. In this paper, we proposed a technique that is capable to find out the error when the common two methods (bilinear and nearest neighbor interpolation) are applied on an image for rotation. The proposed technique also includes the comparison results of bilinear interpolation and nearest neighbor interpolation. Among them nearest neighbor interpolation gives us a better result regarding to the enhancement and due to least error. The error is found by using Mean Square Error (MSE).

  • The image interpolation is one of an image preprocessing process to heighten a resolution. The conventional image interpolation used much to concept that it put in other pixel to select the nearest value in a pixel simply, and use much the temporal object interpolation techniques to do the image interpolation by detecting motion in a moving picture presently. In this paper, it is proposed the image interpolation techniques using the fuzzy wavelet base function. This is applied to embody a correct edge image and a natural image when expand part of the still image by applying the fuzzy wavelet base function coefficient to the conventional B-spline function. And the proposal algorithm in this paper is confirmed to improve about 1.2831 than the image applying the conventional B-spline function through the computer simulation.
