  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the structural relationship among self-leadership, grit, and performance.Specifically, self-leadership was selected as an independent variable, two dimensions of grit were selected as mediator variables, and performance was selected as a dependent variable. This structural equation model is based on previous studies. The subjects of this study were middle and high school Taekwondo players, and the survey was collected using the online survey system KSDC (Korean Social-Science Data Center). The sampling method was a non-probability sampling method, convenience sampling method.A total of 367 copies were collected through this process, and 355 copies were used as the final valid samples after excluding the insincere data.Data processing was done with SPSS 23 for frequency analysis, exploratory factor analysis and reliability analysis. Also, AMOS 21 was used for confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation model analysis. The results of the analysis are as follows: First, self-leadership had a positive effect on bothi interest consistency grit and effort persistence grit. Second, it was found that both interest consistency grit and effort persistence grit have a positive effect on performance.Third,self-leadership had a positive effect on performance.

  • The purpose of this research was to examine the discrimination between grit and passion; and to compare the relationship between grit and passion between eastern and western culture. The participants were 208 Korean and 251 American undergraduates. Multiple-group factor analysis confirmed the model of four (consistency of interest, perseverance of efforts, harmonious passion, and obsessive passion) factors by configural invariance and partial measurement invariance. Also we found positive correlation between consistency of interest and harmonious passion as well as negative correlation between consistency of interest and obsessive passion in the American sample. However, the correlation between grit(consistency of interest, perseverance of efforts) and passion(harmonious passion, obsessive passion) was not significant in the Korean sample. The results suggest that grit is not accompanied by passion among Korean university students. Findings empirically highlight the distinctiveness of grit and passion and the possibility of cultural differences in grit and passion, which were usually discussed western cultures.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship of grit with well-being and self-efficacy. Grit was considered as a two-factor variable with consistency of interest and perseverance of effort. For the empirical analysis, data were collected from the sample of 237 nurses working at general hospitals. Collected data were analyzed using SPSS 26 to test the hypothetical relationships. It was suggested that two factors of grit would be possible associated with well-being. However, the results of this study showed that the consistency of interest part of grit had non-significant effect on well-being, Perseverance of effort part of grit had indirect effect on well-being through fully mediation effect of self-efficacy. This study confirmed that grit, some how, positively related to well-being and variables such as, self-efficacy, could be a important variable to bridge grit to well-being. Further studies were suggested to perform studies on more about grit's two factors and unexplored external variables between grit and well-being of nursing professionals.

  • This study is a descriptive research to investigate the effects of nursing college students in graduation year, self-management competency and grit on employment preparation behavior. The data were analyzed using SPSS 26.0 program, frequency analysis, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and multiple regression. Self-management competency(r=.41, p<.001) and persistence of effort(r=.44, p<.001) of the grit sub-factor showed a positive correlation with employment preparation behavior. Interest consistency(r=-34, p<.001) of the grit sub-factor and employment preparation behavior showed a negative correlation. Self-management competency(β=.27, p<.01) and persistence of effort of the grit sub-factor(β=.22, p<.01) had a positive effect on employment preparation behavior. Interest consistency of grit sub-factor(β=-.32, p<.001) showed a negative effect on employment preparation behavior. In order to promote the employmentt preparation behavior of nursing students, it is necessary to improve self-management competency and persistence in effort. It also suggests that a strategy to suggest various nursing-related employment fields is needed to reduce interest consistency.

  • The purpose of this study was to compare gifted and non-gifted high school students on their perceptions of success, grit, aspirations, and achievement goal orientation. Of the 550 high school students surveyed from 4 high schools (i.e., two schools for gifted, two school for non-gifted) in three metropolitan cities, Korea, 496 (i.e., 153 gifted and 343 non-gifted) completed and returned the questionnaire yielding a total response rate of 90.18%. Measures of students' grit (i.e., consistency of interest, and perseverance of effort), aspirations (i.e., intrinsic aspirations - physical fitness, self-growth, affiliation, community contribution, and extrinsic aspirations - financial success, image, fame), achievement goal orientation (i.e., mastery, performance approach and performance avoidance), and perceptions of success (i.e., Success in life is pretty much determined by forces outside our control.) were administered. It was found that the majority of gifted students and non-gifted students perceived that "success is outside our control.", and chose 'hard-working' as the most influential factor on their success. 60.4% of non-gifted students chose 'wealthy family background' as the other most influential factor, whereas only 48.2% of gifted did. Gifted students had higher 'consistency of interest' and 'mastery goals' than non-gifted students. Hierarchical multiple regression analyses showed that grit (i.e., perseverance of effort) was the crucial contributors for enhancing both gifted and non-gifted students' mastery goals and performance approach goals. Results are discussed in relation to theoretical implications and school settings.

Data was collected from 260 nursing students including first and second-year nursing students in Region C University. The data was analyzed to find relationships among grit, self-directed learning ability, and college life adjustment using frequency analysis, descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and multiple regression analysis. The results showed the subdomains of grit in which grit in nursing students affected self-directed learning ability were consistency of interest (t=2.423, p<.05) and perseverance of effort (t=3.761, p<.001). The explanation power of the regression model was 40.2%, which was a statistically significant result (F=23.609, p<.001). The subdomains of grit in which grit in nursing students affected adjustment to college life were the consistency of interest (t=3.112, p<.001) and perseverance of effort (t=3.930, p<.001). The explanation power of the regression model was 43.2%, which was a statistically significant result (F=30.608, p<.001). These results show that it is necessary to develop educational programs to enhance individual nursing students' grit, self-directed learning ability, and college-life adjustment.

  • This study examined the relationship of grit, goal perception and academic adjustment of adult female students in a distance university. We additionally investigated how academic work-family conflict and social support influenced the grit-adjustment relationship. Grit is defined as passion and perseverance for long-term goals and it has been known as one of the predictors of adjustment indicators including academic achievement. A total of 642 female students in a distance university were participated in the survey and a Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was utilized for data analysis. Results showed that our model fit data well, specifically, two components of grit (i.e. consistency of interest and perseverance of effort) positively predicted academic adjustment. Results from analyses of specific indirect effects revealed that consistency of interest was found to have a positive direct effect on academic adjustment while perseverance of effort had a positive indirect effect via goal perception, suggesting the discriminant predictability of grit's two components. Lastly, academic work-family conflict was found to negatively predict academic adjustment while social support predicted a positive academic adjustment via goal perception.
