In this article, I discuss an International Collaborative Writing Course on the Internet (ICWCI) that focused on the learning effectiveness Korean EFL students (KEFLSs) perceived to be necessary to exchange with international EFL students (IEFLSs). The course development was based on an internet-based instructional module, applying widely accepted EFL theories for modern foreign language instruction: collaborative learning, process writing, project-based learning, and integrated approaches. Data from online discussion forum, mid-of-semester and end-of-semester surveys, and final oral interviews are conducted and discussed. KEFLSs and IEFLSs were questioned about (a) changes in attitude towards computers assisted language learning (CALL); (b) effect of computer background on motivation; (c) perception of their acquired writing skills; and (d) attitude towards collaborative learning. The result of this study demonstrated that the majority of ICWCI participants said they enjoyed the course, gained fruitful confidence in English communication and computer skills, and felt that they made significant progress in writing skills. In spite of positive benefits created by the ICWCI, it was found that there were some issues that are crucial to run appropriate networked collaborative courses. This study demonstrates that participants' computer skills, basic language proficiency, and local time differences are important factors to be considered when incorporating the ICWCI as these may affect the quality of online instructional courses and students' motivation toward network based collaboration interaction.
The purpose of this study is to find out The Effects of the Learning Motive, Interest and Science Process Skills using the 'Light' Unit on Science-based STEAM. As the subject, 2 classes in the 6th grade of G elementary school located in Busan were selected. Through the pre/post inspection design between experiment and comparison class, the units of science courses in the first semester of 6th grade '1. Light' were applied. The results were as follows: Firstly, it was observed that it would have a meaningful effect to improve the learning motive of students who performed STEAM education. Secondly, it was observed that it would have a meaningful effect to improve the interest of students who performed STEAM education. Especially, the results of 'attention', 'relevance', 'confidence' and 'satisfaction' in the experimental class were higher than those of students in the comparative class. The experimental class gave a positive effect on the 'attention', 'confidence' and 'satisfaction'. According to statistical analysis, this result is meaning. Thirdly, the test on science processing skills showed that there was not statistic meaningful differences between the two groups. But, in the sub-parts, there was statistic meaningful differences between the two groups on the 'integrated inquiry ability'.

The purpose of this study is to construct the evaluative objectives of science inquiry skills specificationaly. Specification of evaluative objectives will be able to serve as evaluative criterion for development of a test of the integrated science process skills. The results in this study are as follows ; (l) The selections of science inquiry skills from the previous developed taxonomies are observation, measurement, formulating hypothesis, designing an experiment and controlling variables, inference, predicting(including intrapolation and extrapolation), organizing data and interpreting, defining operationally, formulating a generalization or model, drawing a conclusion. (2) The definitions of the selected science inquiry skills are made operationally. (3) Evaluative objectives relating to the selected science inquiry skills are specified with the previous developed items. Based on the above results, total 9 science inquiry skills are selected and 72 evaluative objectives are specified.
This study investigated a total of 529 integrated science teachers' implementation and changes to apply the curriculum-instruction-assessment. Data was collected through online survey on scientific competencies and skills, teaching-learning and assessment methods, changes of teacher's preparation, topics/materials, teaching-learning, and assessment to apply the curriculum-instruction-assessment as teaching integrated science. The results of the study were as follows: first, in the integrated science class, teachers implemented more on scientific communication and scientific inquiry among scientific core competencies, and analysis and interpretation of data collection and communication among scientific skills. Teachers often taught in lectures and used multiple choice items and short essay for evaluation. Teacher groups with less than 10 years of teaching experience appeared to be less active in teaching scientific core competencies and skills than those with more than 10 years. Second, Teachers have increased more time and efforts to search and to organize various materials in addition to textbooks, and try to integrated concepts in various fields to prepare learning topics and textbooks. Third, even though teachers made little change in implementing the process-oriented assessment, they used instructional strategies to increase student engagement in the integrated science class, restructured the instruction to provide immediate feedback after conducting the assessment. It is necessary to build a system that ensures fairness and credibility of evaluation while respecting the autonomy and professionalism of teachers.

Science, Mathematics, Engineering, and Technology (STEM) integrated education has been spotlighted as a new approach for promoting students' conceptual understanding and supporting their future career in STEM field. There is increasing evidence of the positive impact of using a whole design process that can be an example of STEM integrated activities to improve students' conceptual understanding and problem solving skills. However, there is a lack of information on how teachers should accomplish science and engineering integration activities in their classroom and what process they should pay attention. To answer this question, we research the relationship between an design process and students' conceptual understanding using an engineering design activity, called 'Save the Penguins', and study on how each step in an engineering design process in this activity enhance students' conceptual knowledge in science. We found that testing their prototypes and discussing with their peers were the most important process for students to understand and apply science concept for their design, even though the whole engineering design process (demonstration about radiation, discussion about examples in our lives, and testing and reviewing their prototypes, and making final design) helps the students understand the scientific concepts.
The purposes of this study were to develop STEAM teaching materials about 'world of small organisms' unit on elementary science education and to apply lesson using them for the 5th and 6th graders. Compared to other STEAM programs studied previously, the STEAM teaching materials of this study includes students' STEAM, teachers' guide, story-telling books and multimedia teaching aids consisted of practical resources to manage STEAM lessons. The whole program was designed from multidisciplinary integration to extradisciplinary integration through activities making creative products, meanwhile each period had discretionary S, T, E, A, M factors specifically. To examine the effects of integrated lesson on scientific knowledge, process skills, and affective domain, the study subjects were divided into two groups. The experimental group was composed of 69 individuals participated in STEAM lesson, while students of the control group were 67 individuals learned through general learning methods. The developed STEAM teaching materials affected significantly on scientific knowledge and affective domain of elementary school students, but process skills were not increased significantly. In the present study, therefore, the approach applying STEAM education could be suggested as alternative learning materials or supplementary teaching materials at the field of small organisms in elementary science sufficiently.
The purpose of this study was to investigate science integrated process skill of the students in science education center for the gifted. In order to do this, 'free-response test for the assessment of science process skills' developed by Yu-Hyang Kim(2013) was administered to 102 students(15 in elementary school science class, 58 in middle school science class I, and 29 in middle school science class II) who attend the program of science education center for the gifted in C university. The assessment tool measured 9 skills ; formulating inquiry questions, recognizing variables, formulating hypotheses, designing experiment, transforming data, interpreting data, drawing conclusions, formulating generalizations, and evaluating the designed experiments. As a result, the students in science education center for the gifted had relatively high scores in the area of 'formulating hypotheses' and 'recognizing variables', but they had relatively low scores in the area of 'transforming data', 'interpreting data', and 'evaluating the designed experiments'. The 2 items' percentage of correct answers were below 40% ; one is about a drawing a line graph in 'transforming data', and the other requires finding improvements of the experimental design in 'evaluation'. There was no significant difference between boys' scores and girls's one, and between the scores of students in the field of biology and those of students in the other fields(physics, chemistry, and earth science) in science integrated process skills. And there was significant difference according to the periods receiving the gifted education in 'formulating generalizations'. The teaching and learning has to focus on improving science integrated process skills in the program of science education center for the gifted and teaching and learning materials needs to be developed.
To present the suggestions for improvement in science textbooks of high school, scientific inquiry activities in geology of earth science textbooks of Korea and the U.S. were assessed in the areas of the contents, processes and contexts. Regarding the contents of inquiry activities, Korean textbooks contain more number of inquiry activities (5.8 per section) than the U.S. curriculums (4 per section). Inquiry activities of Korean textbooks mostly fall on the interpretation of diagrams and graphs whereas those of the U.S. textbooks more hands-on experiment, data transformation and self designing. As for the number of inquiry process skills per inquiry activity, Korean curriculums contain an average of 1.8 whereas the American ones 3. It suggests that the U.S. textbooks require more integrated process skills than the Korean earth science curriculums. In the process skills of all textbooks studied, the highest frequent elements were inferring and data interpretation; the percentage of these two elements was an average of 73.3% in Korean textbooks and 46.2% in the U.S. This suggests that the Korean textbooks emphasize the process skill on particular area, and uneven distribution of elements of process skills may hinder the development of integration ability of students. particularly in the integrated process skills, the U.S. textbooks presented all 7 elements, while Korean ones presented only 2 to 4 elements, indicating that the Korean textbooks may have weak points in providing various inquiry activities for students compared to the American textbooks. In inquiry context analysis, Korean curriculums provide simplistic inquiry contexts and low applicability to real life whereas the U.S. curriculums provide more integrated inquiry contexts and high applicability to real life.
