  • In this study, employing an interview survey, the progress orientation of flood management is established, and a framework and process for sustainable flood management in a river basin's context are developed to effectively achieve its goals and objectives. The Interview survey about flood management shows that to reduce flood damage, it is necessary to subdue injudicious man-made developments, to make systematic long-term plans, and to consistently implement them. In the framework, the goal is established as minimizing flood damage and building resilience against flooding, and an implementing methodology is developed, integrating five elements: integrated flood management, flood risk management, integrated watershed management, participatory decision-making process, and adaptive management. Also, evaluating the state of flood management in river basins' context is incorporated into the framework, and the evaluation results are fed back to the goal and the methodology. To effectively implement flood management, an adaptive flood management process is developed, reflecting the results of the interview survey. In this process, the participation of the persons concerned is secured, the state of flood management are evaluated periodically, and measures appropriate to the specific sites are selected and are adaptively carried out.

  • This paper analyzes the requirements of an ideal augmented-reality contents authoring tool that can allow non-programmers as content creators to author contents easily and quickly. To satisfy the requirements, we employ the approach using formal and visual specification techniques. In this paper, we also introduce an integrated augmented-reality framework for the ideal authoring tool, and demonstrate the effectiveness of our research results by illustrating an example content.

  • Implementation of AGVS (Automated Guided Vehicle System) in CIMS (Computer Integrated Manufacturing System) generally requires substantial study to optimize design and performance of the guide path. Traditional mathematical approaches have been used with limited success to analyze AGVS. These approaches, however, do not provide a practical opportunity to use by path designers. This paper presents a new approach based on Jules in designing and assessing AGV path to have better design of the closed-loop layout. A framework for the approach is proposed and a case study is reported to demonstrate the framework. Deletion of seldom used paths and addition of bypasses to solve the congestion problem are conducted automatically through simulation expefiments. To visualize die results a graphic control program is developed and integrated with AutoMod/AutoGram simulation package.

  • We characterized nanoelectrode arrays prepared from self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) by adsorption from a solution containing thiolated $\beta$-cyclodextrin ($\beta$-CD) and n-alkanethiol on the gold electrode surface, using electrochemical methods. While the framework, the n-hexadecanethiol SAM, effectively blocked electron transfer between the electrode surface and solution-phase redox probe molecules, the $\beta$-CD cavities isolated in the forests of n-hexadecanethiol molecules were shown to act as an ultramicroelectrode array. The shapes of cyclic voltammograms of probe molecules were related to the number densities of $\beta$-CD molecules within the monolayer films. Probe molecules that have the correct combination of physical and chemical characteristics were shown to effectively penetrate the framework through the $\beta$-CD pores and exchange electrons with the electrode surface.

  • An integrated optimal control modelhas been formulated to address dynamic freeway diversion control process. The purpose of this paper is to develop an effective and efficient approach for simultaneous]v solving optimal control measures, including on-ramp metering rates, off-ramp diversion rates, and g/C ratios for traffic signals, on a real-time basis. By approximating the flow-density relation with a two-segment linear function, the non-linear optimal control problem can be simplified into a set of piece-wised linear programming models and solved with the proposed SLP algorithm. consequently, an effective on-line feedback method has been developed for integrated freeway corridor control in the framework of the ITS

  • As the digital economy goes global, firms are trying to find suppliers that can address their managerial goals and strategies. The alternatives are not confined to domestic firms. Firms have been trying to connect to foreign partners worldwide. Although offshore outsourcing grants firms various benefits, they present big cultural challenges. However, there is little research on the impact of cultural or country factors on outsourcing. The goal of this paper is to synthesize the outsourcing success literature and develop propositions for outsourcing success in the context of offshore outsourcing. This paper proposes that cultural effects should be included in evaluating the success of offshore outsourcing. Knowledge sharing and the scope of outsourcing are adopted in the base outsourcing success model from previous literature. In the extended model partnership quality is included as a mediator and organizational capability and outsourcing relationship type are also included as moderator. Finally, the integrated framework of offshore outsourcing success includes cultural factors as moderators of the relationships between outsourcing success antecedents and the success of offshore outsourcing. Reasoning for propositions, managerial implications, and future research directions are discussed.

  • Bioinformatics can beexplained as the science of developing algorithms, applicatiou tools, and computer databases and so on, for the purpose of supporting and enhancing biological research. Bioinformatic information systems (BIS) typically handle large data sets and the amount of the data goes up exponentially. Another impediment to easy extraction and retrieval of genomic data in BIS is the need to access different sites for similar information. Recently. there has been some attempts to integrate bioinformatics data in the World Wide Web (WWW) among the bioinformatics community by the internet computing technology. However, the work to integrate bioinformatics data on a universal platform has some problems because of the lack of standard, terminologies, semantics, and ontologies about bioinformatics. In this paper, an XML-based BIS architecture is proposed as an integrated BIS framework. The XML and related technologies allow the creation of meaningful information tags to exchange data between various databases as a standard format, and to create more simple interfaces. This integrated BIS framework has bioinformatic architectural components which is used in the Corporate Information Factory (CIF) method.

  • In the present study, we visualize the linkage framework between geometric modeling and shell finite element based on B-spline representation. For the development of a consistent shell element, geometrically exact shell elements based on general curvilinear coordinates is provided. The NUBS(Non Uniform B-Spline) is used to generate the general free form shell surfaces. Employment of NUBS makes shell finite element handle the arbitrary geometry of the smooth shell surfaces. The proposed shell finite element .model linked with NUBS surface representation provides efficiency for the integrated design and analysis of shell surface structures. The linkage framework can potentially provide efficient integrated approach to the shape topological design optimizations for shell structures.

  • AGVS(Automated Guided Vehicle Systems) in material handling have been used widely since late 1970s. Implementation of an AGVS generally requires substantial study to optimize the design and performance of guide-paths. Traditional mathematical approaches have been used with limited success to analyze AGVS. These approaches, however, do not provide a practical tool for guide-path designers. This paper presents a new approach based on rules in designing and assessing AGV guide-paths to improve the design of a closed-loop layout. • Field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) have received much attention from the nuclear industry as an alternative platform to programmable logic controllers for digital instrumentation and control. The software aspect of FPGA development consists of several steps of synthesis and refinement, and also requires verification activities, such as simulations that are performed individually at each step. This study proposed an integrated software-testing framework for simulating all artifacts of the FPGA software development simultaneously and evaluating whether all artifacts work correctly using common oracle programs. This method also generates a massive number of meaningful simulation scenarios that reflect reactor shutdown logics. The experiment, which was performed on two FPGA software implementations, showed that it can dramatically save both time and costs.
