In this paper we propose a swing-up strategy for a single inverted pendulum. The proposed method has a feature whereby can handle the input and output constraint of a pendulum in a systematic way. For the swing-up of a pendulum, we adopt a 2-DOF control structure that combines the feedforward and feedback control. In order to generate the swing-up feedforward trajectories that satisfy the input and output constraint, we formulate the problem of generating feedforward trajectories as a nonlinear optimal control problem subject to constraints. We illustrate that the proposed method is more flexible than the existing method and provides great freedom in choosing the actuator of the inverted pendulum. Through an experiment, we show that the proposed method can swing a pendulum upward effectively while satisfying all the imposed constraints.

In this paper, nonlinear model predictive control (NMPC) is addressed to develop formation guidance for multiple unmanned aerial vehicles. An NMPC algorithm predicts the behavior of a system over a receding time horizon, and the NMPC generates the optimal control commands for the horizon. The first input command is, then, applied to the system and this procedure repeats at each time step. The input constraint and state constraint for formation flight and inter-collision avoidance are considered in the proposed NMPC framework. The performance of NMPC for formation guidance critically degrades when there exists a communication failure. In order to address this problem, the modified optimal guidance law using only line-of-sight, relative distance, and own motion information is presented. If this information can be measured or estimated, the proposed formation guidance is sustainable with the communication failure. The performance of this approach is validated by numerical simulations.
Though several previous anti-windup techniques have been proposed, they are limited to linear systems or friction is not considered. Thus this paper proposes a compensation scheme for input-constrained robot systems with friction to cope with the windup phenomenon and shows its effectiveness by simulations. Given a feedback linearizing controller for a robot system designed without considering its input constraint, an additional dynamic compensator is proposed to account for the constraint. The dynamic anti-windup is based on the minimization of a reasonable performance index, and properties of the resulting closed-loop are presented.

This note investigates the necessity of properness constraint on iterative learning controllers from the viewpoint of the initial condition problem. It is shown that unless the iterative learning controller is proper, the teaming control input may grow unboundedly and thus not be feasible in practice, though the convergence of tracking error is theoretically guaranteed. In addition, this note analyzes the effects of initial condition misalignment in the iterative learning control system on the control input and convergence property.
This paper proposes a new algorithm for determining an optimal control input for production systems. In many production systems, completion time should be planned within the due dates by taking into account precedence constraints and processing times. To solve this problem, the max-plus algebra is an effective approach. The max-plus algebra is an algebraic system in which the max operation is addition and the plus operation is multiplication, and similar operation rules to conventional algebra are followed. Utilizing the max-plus algebra, constraints of the system are expressed in an analogous way to the state-space description in modern control theory. Nevertheless, the formulation of a system is currently performed manually, which is very inefficient when applied to practical systems. Hence, in this paper, we propose a new algorithm for deriving a state-space description and determining an optimal control input with several constraint matrices and parameter vectors. Furthermore, the effectiveness of this proposed algorithm is verified through execution examples.

Optical flow estimation based on multi constraint approaches is frequently used for recognition of moving objects. However, the use have been confined because of OF estimation time as well as error problem. This paper shows a new method form effectively extracting movement information using the multi-constraint base approaches with sobel edge detection. The moving objects anr extraced in the input image sequence using edge detection and segmentation. Edge detection and difference of the two input image sequence gives us the moving objects in the images. The process of thresholding removes the moving objects detected due to noise. After thresholding the real moving objects, we applied the Combinatorial Hough Transform (CHT) and voting accumulation to find the optimal constraint lines for optical flow estimation. The moving objects found in the two consecutive images by using edge detection and segmentation greatly reduces the time for comutation of CHT. The voting based CHT avoids the errors associated with least squares methods. Calculation of a large number of points along the constraint line is also avoided by using the transformed slope-intercept parameter domain. The simulation results show that the proposed method is very effective for extracting optical flow vectors and hence recognizing moving objects in the images.

Adaptive control constraint (ACC) is applied to a turning process to keep the cutting force constant while the cutting conditions vary. In this system, a given reference force is compared with the measured cutting force and difference is input to the controller to adjust the feed. Since it is found that the effective ACC loop gain depends on both depth-of-cut and spindle speed and thereby influence the system stability, a simple computer algorithm is built in the controller to maintain the stability of the whole system by on-line estimation of the process parameters during cutting.

A general linearly constrained narrowband adaptive array is examined in the eigenvector space. The optimum weight vector in the eigenvector space is shown to have the same performance as in the standard coordinate system, except that the input signal correlation matrix and look direction steering vector are replaced with the eigenvalue matrix and transformed steering vector. It is observed that the variation in gain factor results in the variation in the distance between the constraint plane and the origin in the translated weight vector space such that the increase in gain factor decreased the distance from the constraint plane to the origin, thus affecting the nulling performance. Simulation results showed that the general linearly constrained adaptive array performed better at an optimal gain factor compared with the conventional linearly constrained adaptive array in a coherent signal environment and the former showed similar performance as the latter in a noncoherent signal environment.
In this paper, an local path constraint Is proposed in order to increase the speech recognition rate. An input speech signal is analyzed by autocorrelation and LPC coefficient as parameters. The local path constraint of the proposed type was compared with the conventional five types. The speechs used in this search are the subway stops, and the 130 words pronounced 10 times for the different 13 words consisting of 11 characters of syllable by 2 male and 1 female are tested. As a result, we proved that this proposed type is the most optimal type and the recognition rate of $94.6\%$ is obtained .

When the topology optimization is applied to the design of compliant mechanism, unexpected displacements of input and output port are generated since the displacement control is not included in the formulation. To devise a more precise mechanism, displacement constraint is formulated using the mutual potential energy concept and added to multi-objective function defined with flexibility and stiffness of a structure. The optimization problem is resolved by using Finite Element Method(FEM) and Sequential Linear Programming(SLP). Design examples of compliant mechanism with displacement constraint are presented to validate the proposed design method.
