  • In this paper, we describe the object-oriented motioncompensation technique using the hierarchical grid interpolation(HGI). By noting that the HGI does not exploit effetively the rate-distortion (R-D) trade-off inherent in the quadtree decomposition, we propose an objectoriented HGI technique employing the greedy method. In the proposed technique, input image is decomposed in a quadtree basis using the greedy method, yielding maximum split gain in the R-D sense. Then, the motion compensation is performed using the HGI technique. The performance of the proposed technique is examined in simulation, and it will be show that the proposed technique provides better performance than the conventional object-oriented motion compensation techniques.

  • Blind channel identification and equalization attempt to identify the communication channel and to remove the inter-symbol interference caused by a communication channel without using any known trainning sequences. In this paper, we propose a blind adaptive channel identification and equalization algorithm with phase offset compensation for single-input multiple-output (SIMO) channel. It is based on the one-step forward multichannel linear prediction error method and can be implemented by an RLS algorithm. Phase offset problem, we use a blind adaptive algorithm called the constant modulus derotator (CMD) algorithm based on condtant modulus algorithm (CMA). Moreover, unlike many known subspace (SS) methods or cross relation (CR) methods, our proposed algorithms do not require channel order estimation. Therefore, our algorithms are robust to channel order mismatch.

  • This paper suggests design methodology for thermal infrared data correction algorithms considering environmental temperature variations. First, a thermal infrared measurement model is suggested by a parameter-dependent first-order input-output equation using the relationship between infrared measurement data and model environmental parameters. In order to compensate the influence of environmental temperatures on infrared data, a compensation function is identified. Through experiments, the proposed algorithm is shown to reduce the influence of environmental temperatures on the infrared data effectively.

  • In low earth orbit (LEO) satellite communication systems, more severe phase distortion due to Doppler shift is frequently detected in the received signal than in cases of geostationary earth orbit (GEO) satellite systems or terrestrial mobile systems. Therefore, an estimation of Doppler shift would be one of the most important factors to enhance performance of LEO satellite communication system. In this paper, a new adaptive Doppler compensation scheme using location information of a user terminal and satellite, as well as a weighting factor for the reduction of prediction error is proposed. The prediction performance of the proposed scheme is simulated in terms of the prediction accuracy and the cumulative density function of the prediction error, with considering the offset variation range of the initial input parameters in LEO satellite system. The simulation results showed that the proposed adaptive compensation algorithm has the better performance accuracy than Ali's method. From the simulation results, it is concluded the adaptive compensation algorithm is the most applicable method that can be applied to LEO satellite systems of a range of altitude between 1,000 km and 2,000 km for the general error tolerance level, M = 250 Hz.

  • This paper proposes a new automatic compensation network (ACN) for a system-on-chip (SoC) transceiver. We built a 5 GHz low noise amplifier (LNA) with an on-chip ACN using 0.18 ${\mu}m$ SiGe technology. This network is extremely useful for today's radio frequency (RF) integrated circuit devices in a complete RF transceiver environment. The network comprises an RF design-for-testability (DFT) circuit, capacitor mirror banks, and a digital signal processor. The RF DFT circuit consists of a test amplifier and RF peak detectors. The RF DFT circuit helps the network to provide DC output voltages, which makes the compensation network automatic. The proposed technique utilizes output DC voltage measurements and these measured values are translated into the LNA specifications such as input impedance, gain, and noise figure using the developed mathematical equations. The ACN automatically adjusts the performance of the 5 GHz LNA with the processor in the SoC transceiver when the LNA goes out of the normal range of operation. The ACN compensates abnormal operation due to unusual thermal variation or unusual process variation. The ACN is simple, inexpensive and suitable for a complete RF transceiver environment.

  • This paper presents a novel K-band (18 GHz) 16-quadrature amplitude modulation (16-QAM) orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM)-based $2{\times}2$ line-of-sight multi-input multi-output communication system. The system can deliver 356 Mbps on a 56 MHz channel. Alignment mismatches, such as amplitude and/or phase mismatches, between the transmitter and receiver antennas were examined through hardware experiments. Hardware experimental results revealed that amplitude mismatch is related to antenna size, antenna beam width, and link distance. The proposed system employs an alignment mismatch compensation method. The open-loop architecture of the proposed compensation method is simple and enables facile construction of communication systems. In a digital modem, 16-QAM OFDM with a 512-point fast Fourier transform and (255, 239) Reed-Solomon forward error correction codecs is used. Experimental results show that a bit error rate of $10^{-5}$ is achieved at a signal-to-noise ratio of approximately 18.0 dB.

Therefore, in this paper, we propose a speech recognition error correction method using phoneme similarity rate and reliability measures based on the characteristics of the phonemes. Phonemes similarity rate was phoneme of learning model obtained used MFCC and LPC feature extraction method, measured with reliability rate. Minimize the error to be unrecognized by measuring the rate of similar phonemes and reliability. Turned out to error speech in the process of speech recognition was error compensation performed. In this paper, the result of applying the proposed system showed a recognition rate of 98.3%, error compensation rate 95.5% in the speech recognition.

  • This paper presents a compensation method for a temperature-dependent gain tilt in L-band erbium-doped fiber amplifier using a voltage-controlled attenuator. The gain tilts in the L-band of 1570-1605 nm due to a temperature change have negative slopes, whereas they have positive slopes for the increasing optical input powers in a saturation region. The proposed method utilizes these opposite gain variations to compensate for the gain tilt over a wide range of temperature. While applying forty channels with a channel spacing of 100 GHz in the L-band and changing the ambient temperature from 0 to $50^{\circ}C$, the compensation method maintained the gain deviation within 1 dB.

  • This paper presents an error compensation method for a fixed-width modified Booth multiplier that receives a W-bit input and produces a W-bit product. To efficiently compensate for the quantization error, Booth encoder outputs (not multiplier coefficients) are used for the generation of error compensation bias. The truncated bits are divided into two groups depending upon their effects on the quantization error. Then, different error compensation methods are applied to each group. By simulations, it is shown that quantization error can be reduced up to 50% by the proposed error compensation method compared with the existing method with approximately the same hardware overhead in the bias generation circuit. It is also shown that the proposed method leads to up to 40% reduction in area and power consumption of a multiplier compared with the ideal multiplier.
