This paper presents the new design of flat electromagnetic actuator. Novel shorted turn and copper center pole are placed into existent design in order to reduce the inductance of coil and accelerate the initial response. Finite element analysis using commercial electromagnetic solver “MAXWELL” is performed to simulate the improvement of dynamic characteristics such as fast initial response and so on.
Background: Measurement of bronchodilator response is necessary to establish reversibility of airflow obstruction that was helpful to estimate the diagnosis, treatment, and prognosis in obstructive airway disease. An useful index should be able to detect the bronchodilator response more sensitively not related with degree of airflow obstruction and also be independent of initial $FEV_1$. Method: Sensitivities of bronchodilator response in each group classified by degree of airflow obstruction in $FEV_1$, FVC, $FEF_{25\sim75%}$, Isovolume $FEF_{25\sim75%}$, sGaw were studied and correlation coefficients were calculated between initial $FEV_1$ and reversibilities expressed as absolute, %initial, % predicted, %possible in $FEV_1$. Result: Sensitivities of bronchodilator response were 61.5% in FVC, Isovolume $FEF_{25\sim75%}$ and sGaw, in severe group, and 56.3% in Isovolume $FEF_{25\sim75%}$ and sGaw, in moderate group, and 62.5% in $FEV_1$ and sGaw and 50.0% in FVC and Isovolume $FEF_{25\sim75%}$, in mild group, and 60.0% in sGaw and 58.0% in Isovolume $FEF_{25\sim75%}$ in total patients. Correlation coefficients between initial $FEV_1$(L) and absolute, % initial, % predicted, % possible were 0.15, -0.22(p<0.05), 0.02, 0.24(p<0.05) and correlation coefficients between initial $FEV_1$(% predicted) and absolute, % initial, % predicted, %possible were 0.06, -0.28(p<0.05), 0.08, 0.39(p<0.05). Conclusion: Volume related parameters were more sensitive index not related with degree of airway obstruction and the change in $FEV_1$ expressed as % predicted was the least dependent on initial $FEV_1$ and reversibilities, expressed as % initial or as % possible(predicted minus initial $FEV_1$)were correlated with initial $FEV_1$.
In order to investigate the adsorption characteristics for Sr ion using the Na-X zeolite synthesized from coal fly ash, batch tests and response surface analyses were carried out. The adsorption kinetic data for Sr ions, using Na-X zeolite, fitted well with the pseudo-second-order model. The uptake of Sr ions followed the Langmuir isotherm model, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 196.46 mg/g. Thermodynamic studies were conducted at different reaction temperatures, with the results indicating that Sr ion adsorption by Na-X zeolite was an endothermic (${\Delta}H^o$>0) and spontaneous (${\Delta}G^o$<0) process. Using the response surface methodology of the Box-Behnken method, initial Sr ion concentration ($X_1$), initial temperature ($X_2$), and initial pH ($X_3$) were selected as the independent variables, while the adsorption of Sr ions by Na-X zeolite was selected as the dependent variable. The experimental data fitted well with a second-order polynomial equation by multiple regression analysis. The value of the determination coefficient ($R^2=0.9937$) and the adjusted determination coefficient (adjusted $R^2=0.9823$) was close to 1, indicating high significance of the model. Statistical results showed the order of Sr removal based on experimental factors to be initial pH > initial concentration > temperature.
We compared relative importance of thermal conductivity and initial ground temperature in designing borehole heat exchanger network and also we test accuracy of ground temperature estimation in thermal response test using a proven 3-D T-H modeler. The effect of error in estimating ground temperature on calculated total length of borehole heat exchanger was more than 3 times larger than the case of thermal conductivity in maximum 20% error range. Considering 10% of error in estimating thermal conductivity is generally acceptable, we have to define the initial ground temperature within 5% confidence level. Utilizing the mean annual ground surface temperature and the geothermal gradient map compiled so far can be a economic way of estimating ground temperature with some caution. When performing thermal response test for estimating ground temperature as well as measuring thermal conductivity, minimum 100 minutes of ambient circulation is required, which should be even more in case of very cold and hot seasons.

This study was conducted to determine the optimal conditions of acetic acid fermentation of aronia using the response surface methodology (RSM). Alcohol content of aronia wine was 13.1% after alcohol fermentation of aronia fruits. The optimal conditions of acetic acid fermentation were determined by five levels of initial aronia alcohol content, initial acetic acid content, and acetic acid bacteria, using the central composite design. The acetic acid yields, residual alcohol contents, pH, and color values (L, a, b) of acetic acid fermentation products were very significantly different ($p{\leq}0.01$), and were 26.34~57.82 g/L, 0.80~1.53%, 3.19~3.43, 47.58~71.00, 31.77~51.15, and 18.45~48.57, respectively. For the results, the optimal conditions of acetic acid fermentation of aronia were 7.78% of the initial alcohol concentration, 1.58% of the initial acetic acid, and 19.39% of the acetic acid bacteria.

If the accelerometers are used in measuring the response, the absolute values of the velocity and displacement are not usually obtainable because their initial values are not accounted for in the integration of the acceleration response. A new dynamic response conversion algorithm of both the time domain and the frequency domain is proposed for the problem in estimating the displacement data by defining the transformed responses. In this algorithm, the displacement response can be obtained from the measured acceleration records by integration without requiring the knowledge of the initial velocity and displacement information. The applicability of the technique is tested by an example problem using the real bridge's superstructure under several cases of moving load. In the response conversion procedure of the frequency domain, the identified response according to the frequency can be estimated by changing over the limits of integration. If the reliability of the identified responses is ensured, it is expected that the proposed method for estimating the impact factor can be useful in the bridge's dynamic test. This method can be useful in those practical cases when the direct measurement of the displacement is difficult as in the dynamic studies of huge structure.

This paper examined the dynamic instability of a shallow arch according to the response characteristics when nearing critical loads. The frequency changing feathers of the time-domain increasing the loads are analyzed using Fast Fourier Transformation (FFT), while the response signal around the critical loads are analyzed using Hilbert-Huang Transformation (HHT). This study reveals that the models with an arch shape of h = 3 or higher exhibit buckling, which is very sensitive to the asymmetric initial conditions. Also, the critical buckling load increases as the shape increases, with its feather varying depending on the asymmetric initial conditions. Decomposition results show the decrease in predominant frequency before the threshold as the load increases, and the predominant period doubles at the critical level. In the vicinity of the critical level, sections rapidly manifest the displacement increase, with the changes in Instantaneous Frequency (IF) and Instant Energy (IE) becoming apparent.

The snap-through phenomena of the curved IPMC actuators were investigated according to the initial curvature of the actuators. The curved actuators were fabricated by long time thermal treatments. Cantilevered IPMCs have a constant curvature and their initial tip-displacements are 0, 8, and 16mm, respectively. These actuators were tested in terms of f response. AC response, FRF test for evaluating the effect of initial shape. The hysteresis and instant speed of tip point were measured for observation of the snap-through. Present results show that initial deformation strongly affects the snap-through phenomena, resulting in much larger tip-displacements.

In general, the thrust vector control should be fast and stable in the initial launch phase. Two types of conventional controllers, one is for pitch angle control and the other is for pitch rate control, are designed based on the equation of motion without aerodynamics and are compared in the viewpoints of the stability margin and the time response performance. Also analyzed are the rejection capabilities to cope with high aerodynamic disturbances caused by high angle of attacks in initial booting phase. Additionally, time response features at actuator saturation are investigated. Based on those results, we suggest a controller structure which is more suitable for thrust vector control of missiles at initial booting phase.

This study examines how and which direction respondents who participated in 5-point Likert scale surveys change their initial responses when they are given an identical second survey after certain treatments. The research employs three identical questionnaires (first, second and third surveys) to analyze survey results based on group differences, kinds of treatment, survey purposes, and response change direction and the degree. This paper concludes that, first, it is significant that specialist groups do not change their initial responses compared to a general librarian group. Second, there are no differences by survey purpose; however, participants tend to change their initial responses by others' opinions rather than by previous use experiences. Third, participants who initially answered positively tend not to change their responses, and most participants who answered negatively change their initial responses in a positive direction. Fourth, when there are changes, participants change their initial responses by less than two points, and most of them change by one point. Finally, the hypothesis that middle responses change most and that participants who respond at both ends do not change their opinion was rejected by the finding that participants who answered on the negative end tend to change their initial responses in a positive direction.
