  • In this work, the surface of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) was modified with small molecules including mercaptoundecanoic acid (MUA) and L-lysine for the development of highly sensitive lateral flow (LF) sensors. Uniformly sized AuNps were synthesized by a modified Turkevich-Frens method, showing an average size of $16.7{\pm}2.1nm$. Functionalized AuNPs were then characterized by transmission electron microscopy, UV-vis spectroscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. The stable conjugation of AuNPs and antibodies was obtained at pH 7.07 and the antibody concentration of $10{\mu}g/mL$. The functionalized AuNP-based LF sensor exhibited lower detection limit of 10 ng/mL for hepatitis B surface antigens than that of using the bare AuNP-based LF sensor (100 ng/mL).

  • In this work, $SnO_2$ modified with reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) separately and combined sensitized by using the co-precipitation method and their sensing behavior toward ethanol vapor at room temperature were investigated. An interdigitated electrode (IDE) gold substrate is very expensive compared to a fluorine doped tin oxide (FTO) substrate; hence, we used the latter to reduce the fabrication cost. The structure and the morphology of the studied materials were characterized by using differential thermal analyses (DTA) and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), transmission electron microscope (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller surface area and Barrett-Joyner-Halenda (BJH) pore size measurements. The studied composites were subjected to ethanol in its gas phase at concentrations from 10 to 200 ppm. The present composites showed high-performance sensitivity for many reasons: the incorporation of $SnO_2$ and CNTs which prevents the agglomeration of rGO sheets, the formation of a 3D mesopourus structure and an increase in the surface area. The decoration with rGO and CNTs led to more active sites, such as vacancies, which increased the adsorption of ethanol gas. In addition, the mesopore structure and the nano size of the $SnO_2$ particles allowed an efficient diffusion of gases to the active sites. Based on these results, the present composites should be considered as efficient and low-cost sensors for alcohol.

  • Many Construction companies are making great efforts to prevent accidents on their work sites. Safety is one of the greatest success factors on a construction project. Nowadays, many safety tools are being applied to construction sites. In addition, an emotional safety culture is an important factor for promoting a "safety first" mindset on construction sites. Therefore, this research aims to examine the effectiveness of the emotional safety system using PIR (Pyroelectric Infrared Ray) sensors to improve the safety mindset in the building construction site. The results of this research revealed that many construction site workers are satisfied with the emotional safety system using sensors. In addition, it was found that voice safety systems give a positive impulse to the workers. By applying this system to construction sites, construction companies can improve safety and work productivity.

  • We report the growth of HgCdTe by metal organic vapor phase epitaxy (MOVPE), using (211)B CdTe/Si substrates grown by molecular beam epitaxy (MBE). The surface morphology of these films is very smooth with hillock free. The etch pit densities (EPD) and full widths at half maximum (FWHM) of x-ray rocking curves exhibited that the crystalline quality of HgCdTe epilayer on MBE grown CdTe/Si was improved compare to HgCdTe on GaAs substrate. The Hall parameters of undoped HgCdTe layers on CdTe/Si showed n-type behavior with carrier concentration of $8{\times}10^{14}/cm^3$ at 77K. But HgCdTe on GaAs showed p-type conductivity due to in corporation of p-type impurities during GaAs substrate preparation. It is thought that these results are applicable for large area HgCdTe forcal plane arrays of $1024{\times}1024$ format and beyound.

  • Ruthenium(Ru)-doped $TiO_2$ nanofibers were prepared using electrospun Ru-$TiO_2$/poly(vinyl acetate) (PVAc) fibers and subsequent annealing for 1 h at temperatures in the range of $500^{\circ}C$ to $1000^{\circ}C$ in air. The properties of the Ru-$TiO_2$ fibers were characterized as a function of the Ru content and calcination temperature using X-ray diffraction, thermal gravimetry with differential scanning calorimetry, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and viscometer, pycnometer and dynamic tensiometer measurements. Although the diameter of the fiber decreased slightly with increasing calcination temperature, no dramatic changes were observed with respect to the ruthenium content. The XRD and FT-IR results revealed that anatase phase and ruthenium metal began to be formed after calcination at temperatures above $500^{\circ}C$. Anatase and rutile phases and ruthenium metal coexisted in the fibers calcined above $600^{\circ}C$. No anatase phase was detected in the fibers containing ruthenium when they were calcined at $1000^{\circ}C$. The morphology of the fibers changed from smooth and uniform to porous with increasing temperature. The experimental results suggest that the calcination temperature and Ru content were influential in determining the morphology and structure of the fibers.

  • Today, graphene loaded textiles are being considered promising smart clothing due to their high conductivity. In this study, we reported reduced graphene oxide(r-GO) deposited pure cotton fabrics fabricated with a colloidal solution of graphene(GO), using a one-step aerosol spray pyrolysis(ASP) process and their potential application on smart textiles. The ASP process is advantageous in that it is easily implementable and can be applied for continuous processing. Moreover, this process has never been applied to deposit r-GO on pure cotton fabric. The field emission-scanning microscopy (FE-SEM) observation, Fourier transform-infrared(FT-IR) analysis, Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction(XRD) analysis, and ultraviolet transmittance(UVT) were used to evaluate material properties of the r-GO colloids. The resistance was also measured to evaluate the electrical conductivity of the specimens. The results revealed that the r-GO was successfully deposed on specimens, and the specimen with the highest electrical conductivity demonstrated an electrical resistance value of 2.27 kΩ/sq. Taken together, the results revealed that the ASP method demonstrated a high potential for effective deposition of r-GO on cotton fabric specimens and is a prospect for the development of conductive cotton-based smart clothing. Therefore, this study is also meaningful in that the ASP process can be newly applied by depositing r-GO on the pure cotton fabric.
