  • As the 2015 Revised Secondary Information Curriculum was reorganized into a software-focused curriculum, a number of information teachers were needed. For this purpose, a special training course for multiple majors for secondary information teachers was established, and produced about 100 teachers with multiple majors. To improve this training program, this study surveyed the trainees joined in this program. As the result of the survey, there were findings that the short training period made it difficult to understand the overall content of the curriculum, and that they had a loss of learning due to the burden on another major. Therefore, long-term training is necessary to train informatics teachers, and by realizing the reinforcement of specialty through pre-training and main training, and by organizing a gradual curriculum, substantiality should be sought.

  • Viewing and approaching problems based on computational thinking can be improved through informatics education, which is essential for students to live in a future society. The purpose of this study is to analyze the operation status of informatics subjects that have become general electives in the 2015 revised curriculum, and to contribute to enhancing the effect of future informatics subject. To achieve this goal, a questionnaire was conducted for 400 students who graduated from high school in 2015-2016, and five students and five informatics subjects teachers were interviewed. Operation period of Infomatics subject, contents, method and evaluation method were analyzed. As a result, the operation of informatics subjects varied greatly from the second semester of the first year to the second semester of the third year. The most common method was teaching type, but the percentage of self-study was high in the second semester of the third year. The contents of the study did not learn all the contents, and the use rate of textbooks was low in the class. This study confirmed that the informatics subject class did not proceed in the form of observing the curriculum similarly to other subjects excluded. It is also significant that for the first time, the operational status of informatics subjects was analyzed.

  • In this paper, we examine the different viewpoints of teachers and undergraduates on middle school informatics textbook. For this research, a survey is conducted on middle school informatics teachers and undergraduates who are preparing the state examination for informatics-computer teachers. Items of the survey were chosen to investigate the level of completion on the contents and structure of the textbook and to examine overall satisfaction with the textbook. Seven items concerning the level of completion are based on national textbook authorization criteria. A t-test was performed to analyze meaningful difference in perception of textbook between the teacher and student groups. The result shows there is meaningful difference on two items which are 'compliance with informatics curriculum' and 'content selection and organization'.

  • Computational thinking has been a powerful key recently to open a new paradigm era in the curriculum of Informatics subject and the community of computer science education. But the quality and quantity of domestic research about it has been very poor in comparison with other countries. Therefore, this study focuses on the definition, learning steps and learning contexts about computational thinking education using some professional questionnaires and analyses of related other countries' literatures. The learning contexts that were extracted by several previous works could be used as the factor to analyze the curriculum of Informatics subject and textbooks in middle school; these could be helpful to teach the ability of computational thinking in middle school. Results of these questionnaires show that the three steps and 13 learning contexts of computational thinking education are properly well-formulated. The 5 of 13 learning contexts, such as data collection, are missing in 2009 revised-Informatics curriculum in middle school as well as the seven Informatics textbooks that used in middle school contained 10 of 13 learning contexts for computational thinking education.

  • There exist many differences between new Informatics curriculum and the current Computer curriculum. Since the new curriculum introduces new section of "Problem-solving methods and procedures" which are not included in current computer curriculum, it is required to define and specify objectives and content units of "problem solving methods" and "programming" topics for the new section. In this paper, we define and specify the objectives and detailed contents by surveying various computer curriculums used in many other countries. Then, the specified objectives and content units are validated by a group of computer education experts. The final results of specified objectives show that areas of "comprehension", "application" and "synthesis" take relatively high percentage over the other areas. In the content specification, we set the content structure by describing how to solve a given real-world problem with a non-computerized way, followed by representing or transforming it with a corresponding computerized model.

  • The purpose of this study was to extract hierarchical learning elements in the area of 'Algorithms and Programming' in the 2022 revised secondary informatics curriculum. Intrinsic validity was secured by considering the core ideas presented in the curriculum and the content elements of 'knowledge/understanding', 'process/skills', and 'values/attitudes', and extrinsic validity of the learning elements was obtained through FGI and CVR with 25 experts. The learning elements derived from this study are 7 in the first stage, 18 in the second stage, and 26 in the third stage for middle schools, and 8 in the first stage, 23 in the second stage, and 27 in the third stage for high schools. Although the scope and size of knowledge in each stage may differ, the hierarchy of knowledge in the first stage, which is materialized in the second and third stages, provides direction on how knowledge should be taught. This study is expected to contribute to the implementation of the new curriculum in schools and to improve teachers' understanding of the curriculum.

  • According to the 2007 national curriculum amendment, new 'informatics' textbooks have been used since 2010 as a textbook for middle school first graders and will eventually be used in other grades. However, only a few studies that have evaluated the 'informatics' textbooks, have been performed. What is worse is the fact that none of the evaluating tools even exist. Therefore, we propose the criteria of selecting 'informatics' textbooks in middle school. Its contents can be summarized as follows: First, this paper classifies previous studies on textbook evaluation into general criteria of selecting textbooks, method of textbook analysis based on how inquisitively students can learn and previous studies which analyzed existing secondary school 'informatics' textbooks and propose the criteria of selecting 'informatics' textbooks in middle school. Second, using the proposed selection criteria for 'informatics' textbooks and other evaluation criteria, five kinds of informatics textbooks were analyzed. Furthermore, it is expected that we can use the selection criteria as a material to choose the new 'Information science' textbooks, and to suggest alternative directions of future studies in the area of evaluating 'Information science' textbooks.

  • The nature of complex modern society inevitably creates intricate problems that can be solved by the computational and logical reasoning. The programming education in Informatics can effectively raise the ability of computational thinking. The paper proposes and evaluates a STEAM curriculum that can draw the interest and attention of students. The curriculum educates the multi-disciplinary knowledge from science, music and informatics, and it was designed to have group discussions with self-directed study. The experiments were performed with $4^{th}{\sim}6^{th}$ grade gifted students in Informatics from elementary schools. The Arduino was used as the experiment environment. The experiment results reveal that the interests in Informatics and programming have been escalated after the STEAM class; 75% of students expressed the surge of interest in computers and 93% of students responded positively to the Arduino-based class. The effectiveness of the experiment outcomes was validated with t-test.
