  • As modern society needs to process of acquisition, storage and transmission of much information, the importance of signal processing is increasing and various digital filters are used in the two-dimensional signal such as image. And kinds of these digital filters are IIR(infinite impulse response) filter and FIR(finite impulse response) filter. And FIR filter which has the phase linearity, the easiness of creation and stability is applied to many fields. In design of this FIR filter, flatness property is a important factor in pass-band and stop-band. In this paper, we designed a 2-D Circular FIR filter using the Bernstein polynomial, it is presented flatness property in pass-band and stop-band. And we simulated the designed filter with noisy test image and compared the results with existing methods.

  • In this paper, a new multirate optimal finite impulse response (FIR) filter is proposed for the signal reconstruction in the nosy filter bank systems. The multirate optimal FIR filter replaces the conventional synthesis filters and the Kalman synthesis filter. First, the generic linear model is derived from the multirate state space model for an autoregressive (AR)input signal. Second, the multirate optimal FIR filter is derived from the multirate generic linear model using the minimum variance criterion. This paper also provides numerical examples and results. The simulation results illustrate that the performance is improved compared with conventional synthesis filters and the proposed filter has advantages over the Kalman synthesis filter.

  • Digital filters are extensively used in the world of communication. In order to design a digital finite impulse response (FIR) filter that satisfies all the required conditions is challenging. In this paper, design techniques of digital low pass FIR filters using Rectangular window method, Hamming window, Hanning window, and Optimal Parks McClellan method are presented. The stability, number of components required and filter coefficients are demonstrated for different design techniques. It is demonstrated that filter design using hamming window is comparatively better than rectangular and hanning window though the components required for all of the windowing technique are same, hamming shows higher stability. The stability is shown with the help of magnitude and phase spectrum of each window. Simulation is carried out using MATLAB and comparisons are made entirely based on the output of the simulation.

  • In this paper, a finite impulse response (FIR) filter is proposed for discrete-time nonlinear systems. The proposed filter is designed by combining the estimate of the perturbation state and nominal state. The perturbation state is estimated by adapting the optimal time-varying FIR filter for the linearized perturbation model and the nominal state is directly obtained from the nonlinear nominal trajectory model. Since the FIR structured estimators use the finite horizon information on the most recent time interval, the proposed extended FIR filter satisfies the bounded input/bounded output (BIBO) stability, which can't be obtained from infinite impulse response (IIR) estimators. Thus, it can be expected that the proposed extended FIR filter is more robust than IIR structured estimators such as an extended Kalman filter for the round-of errors and the uncertainties from unknown initial states and uncertain system model parameters. The simulation results show that the proposed filter has better performance than the extended Kalman filter (EKF) in both robustness and fast convergency.

  • The applications of the electrical transmission line theory to the pressure propagation characteristics in the volume loaded fluid transmission line with step and impulse input wave is demonstrated in this paper. The method is based on the premise that the time response is the inverse Fourier transform of frequency spectrum of the wave which spectrum is a product of frequency spectrum of input pressure wave and system transfer function. The frequency response and transient response of step and impulse input wave in the volume loaded fluid transmission line is analysed by the Laplace transform and inverse Laplace transform with FFT numerical algorithm. The numerical solution of the distributed friction model is compared with the average friction model and the infinite product model. And the result is showed that FFT method may have major advantages for the simulation of fluid circuitary.

  • The digital phase-locked loops(DPLL) is a circuit used for phase synchronization and has been generally used in various fields such as communication and circuit fields. State estimators are used to design digital phase-locked loops, and infinite impulse response state estimators such as the well-known Kalman filter have been used. In general, the performance of the infinite impulse response state estimator-based digital phase-locked loop is excellent, but a sudden performance degradation may occur in unexpected situations such as inaccuracy of initial value, model error, and disturbance. In this paper, we propose a minimum variance finite impulse response filter with optimal horizon for designing a new digital phase-locked loop. A numerical method is introduced to obtain the measured value interval length, which is an important parameter of the proposed finite impulse response filter, and to obtain a gain, the covariance matrix of the error is set as a cost function, and a linear matrix inequality is used to minimize it. In order to verify the superiority and robustness of the proposed digital phase-locked loop, a simulation was performed for comparison and analysis with the existing method in a situation where noise information was inaccurate.

  • A 2-D digital filter with rational frequency response can be expanded into an infinite sequence of filterins operations. Each filtering operation can be implemented by convolution with a Low-order 20D finite-extent impulse response. If a convergence constraint is satisfied, the sequence of estimates will approach the desired output signal. In practice, as the number of iterations is finite, the frequency response implemented by iterative computations is an approximation to the desired rational frequency response.

  • In this study, the novel digital filtering algorithms are implemented to suppress the noisy characteristics embedded in ambulatory electrocardiogram signals by an android smartphone platform. With this aim, Graphical User Interface (GUI) is designed and implemented by utilizing multithread-Java programming to realize Finite Impulse Response and Infinite Impulse Response filter. With simulating our implemented digital filters built in an android smartphone, we can find the fact that we can efficiently suppresses the noisy characteristics due to baseline wandering and 60 Hz powerline source fluctuations especially in electrocardiograms.

  • In this paper we show the performance of neural Chandrasekhar filtering which is a special case for the new method of neural filtering using the artificial neural network systems developed recently for the filtering problems of linear and nonlinear, stationary and nonstationary stochastic signals. The neurofilter developed has either the finite impulse response(FIR) structure or the infinite impulse response(IIR) structure. The neurofilter differs from the conventional linear digital FIR and IIR filters because the artificial neural network system used in the neurofilter has nonlinear structure due to the sigmoid function. Numerical studies for the estimation of a second order Butterworth process are performed by changing the structures of the neurofilter in order to evaluate the performance indices under the changes of the output noises or disturbances. In the numerical studies both Chandrasekhar filtering estimates and true signals are used as the training signals for the neurofilter. The results obtained from the studies verified the capabilities which are essentially necessary for on-line filtering of various stochastic signals.

  • For a lightly damped system, IIR based filter can have better performance than FIR filter as an adaptive filter in ANC algorithm. IIR based filter which has an infinite impulse response can model a lightly damped acoustic system with a small number of weights compared that of FIR filter and has no nonlinearity and instability problems on weight updating process which are associated to the conventional IIR filters. There are, however, some drawbacks such as design parameters to be determined earlier to get better performance and much increased computational power especially in the presence of error path. In this study, base filter parameters are determined in systematic manner, with the knowledge of the nominal impulse response of the system which should be identified, by Prony's method. Three methods reducing the computational load are proposed and their performance and application limits are discussed. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed method.
