산업공학 학부교육의 탐색:졸업생 설문조사 결과를 중심으로 (Exploring Undergraduate Education of Industrial Engineers:Result of Survey for Graduates with Industrial Engineering Degree)

  • The main purpose of this research is to find out whether curriculums of industrial engineering (IE) departments meet the demand of IE graduates working in various fields. The research was conducted as an online questionnaire survey selecting IE Graduates working in industries as practising engineers. 1,324 participants were validated among 1,477 participants. 13 fields were selected and used in the survey. Those were; 1) Mathematical statistics, 2) Computer, 3) Purchase, 4) Production system, 5) Logistics, 6) Marketing, 7) Monetary, 8) Experiment methods, 9) Operations Research (OR), 10) Human Factors, 11) Quality, 12) Engineering management, and 13) Information systems. Using the 5-scale Likert rating, each education subject was assessed both in terms of its usefulness in practices and the amount it being taught in school. As a result, courses such as motion/time study, linear programming that IE has traditionally focused showed less usefulness in practices while it is taught in relatively large amount in schools. However, courses such as 6 sigma, CRM which are closely related to industrial practices showed high usefulness in practices compared with low degree of teaching in school. This was the first ever large scalesurvey conducted for IE graduates in Korea. The result of survey displayed many helpful information on current status and future direction of IE education in Korea.

컴퓨터·정보(공)학 분야 졸업생의 CAC 인증성과 인식에 관한 연구 (A Study on computer engineering graduates' perception of CAC(Computing Accreditation Committee) evaluation)

  • There's been few research to study the effects of CAC(Computing Accreditation Committee) evaluation, since start of CAC accreditation 10 years ago. The purpose of this paper is to find what computer engineering graduates perceive the effects of CAC accreditation and to suggest how CAC accreditation process can be improved. The research findings through survey are followings; First, computer engineering graduates' undergraduate education satisfaction is not high enough(3.28). Second, the computer engineering graduates don't recognize CAC accreditation necessary. Third, graduates who work in company chose design courses as the most helpful, while graduates who study in graduate school pursuing further career in master or doctor program chose major subjects. Lastly, graduates from accredited program do not think their completion of accreditation program influence their employment. Strategic approaches to make higher effectiveness of CAC accreditation system are suggested. First, improvement of curriculum and instruction method in CAC accredited program is required to satisfy the needs of students and industry. Second, efforts to inform students of understandings and necessity of accreditation are highly recommended. Third, industrial sector needs to understand CAC accreditation and give graduates from accredited program more incentives. Lastly, government support like Seoul Accord Activation Project should last for a while.

  • This study aims to compare human resource development by industrial and occupational characteristics of science and engineering graduates. To achieve research objectives, this study analyzed whether differences exist in human resource development, such as participation in vocational training, wage levels, and cuture of talened person preference, by industrial and occupational characteristics. The results showed that workers in engineering fields received more benefits and support compared to those in non-science and engineering field occupations at the quantitative statistics of vocational training and wage levels. On the contrary, according to the qualitative statistics, workers of non-science and engineering field have a culture of talented person preference compared to those in science and engineering occupation.

  • We consider the characterized curriculum of industrial engineering for training the excellent technician. We classified many kinds of jobs in the industry and information society and compared them with the curriculums of 13 junior colleges sampled randomly. Also we inquired the degree of relation of the technique qualification for graduates from industrial engineering to the current major subjects. For fostering the cultured individuals the community demands, we amended and looked into the current liberal arts course to supplement it. We analyzed the opinions of students, professors and experts from various circles through questionnaires, and then we set up the direction and the priority order for developing the curriculum for training the technician. According to the analyzed results, we presented the curriculum centering around customers and demanders and introduced it in detail. We are going to utilize developed curriculum, teaching methods by computers and practice methods step by step, and make expansion to industrial engineering of other colleges. Then we are planning to apply to the reeducation for graduates and the social education that contains the industrial human resources and the ordinary persons.

  • A Summary is given of conventional electrical engineering university education and a description of the employment scene for the graduates. The training requirements of graduates for three different industrial employers are given and the steps taken to meet some of these requirements are explained in detail. The steps taken include tow training programmes, one an undergraduate final year course and the other a graduate training programme. The final year course teaches to design and construct a real product to specifications, whereas the graduate training programme employs a new graduate or postgraduate student on industrial projects which can be closely supervised for maximum benefit. Both programmes are described in detail and the conclusion developed as to future requirements.

이공계 대졸여성의 진로준비행동이 직무만족도에 미치는 영향 (A Study on the Impact on Job Satisfaction of Career Preparation Behavior of Women Graduates in Science and Engineering)

  • 본 연구는 이공계 대졸여성의 진로준비행동이 직무만족도에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 공학계열과 자연계열의 전공별로 직무만족에 차이가 있는지를 차이분석을 통하여 알아보고, 진로준비행동과 직무만족도와의 관계를 회귀분석을 하였다. 이를 위해 한국고용정보원의 '2012 대졸자 직업이동 경로조사' 원 자료를 사용하였다. 연구대상은 2011년 8월과 2012년 2월 전문대 및 4년제 대학 이공계전공 여성으로 본 연구에서는 '2012 대졸자 직업이동경로조사' 원 데이터에서 연구대상인 이공계 전공여성 1,569명의 표본(공학계열; 649명, 자연계열;920명)을 분석하였다. 자료는 SPSS WIN 19.0을 사용해 빈도분석, 독립표본t검정, 상관관계분석, 위계적 다중회귀분석을 실시하였다. 그 결과 진로준비행동을 고려하지 않고 전공 선택 이유, 대학유형, 대학소재지, 계열만을 통제하였을 때는 4년제 대학이 전문대보다 고용안정성이 좋고 직무만족도가 높았으나 전공 선택이유, 대학유형, 대학소재지, 계열 등의 통제변수와 진로준비행동 변인을 같이 사용하였을 때는 4년제 대학과 전문대학이라는 대학유형간이 고용안정성과 직무만족도에 미치는 영향은 통계적으로 유의미하지 않았다. 이는 진로준비행동을 체계적으로 하여 본인 적성에 맞도록 소신 있게 대학을 선택했을 경우 대학유형은 직무만족도에 큰 영향을 미치지 않음을 시사하였다.

Balanced Scorecard Based Performance Analysis of Accreditation for Engineering Education

  • The number of students graduating from accredited programs has been increasing annually since the first students graduated from accredited engineering programs in Korean universities in 2004. In this paper, we evaluate the effect of engineering education accreditation by the Accreditation Board for Engineering Education of Korea (ABEEK). We developed performance evaluation indices based on the balanced scorecard concept and applied the proposed indicators to graduates, faculty, and industry employers to see if there are significant differences between accredited and non-accredited groups. Overall, regardless of survey object, engineering education accreditation was perceived to contribute to the elevation of engineering and science and the level of national growth. However, the differences between accredited and non-accredited groups for some key performance indicators were statistically insignificant. The results of this paper are expected to provide crucial feedback information for the improvement of engineering education accreditation in Korea.

공대 졸업생들의 공학기초능력 수준과 교육 요구 분석 (Engineering basic competencies level and educatkonal needs analysis of engineering college graduates)

  • 이 연구의 목적은 공대 졸업생들의 대학 졸업 시의 공학기초능력 수준과 실제 직업에서의 중요도를 조사하고 교육 요구를 분석하는 데 있다. 이를 위해 공대 졸업생 807명을 대상으로 질문지에 의한 조사 연구를 수행하여, 공학기초능력의 대학 졸업 시 수준, 실제 직업에서의 중요도를 조사하였다. 또한 공대 학과별 공학기초능력의 수준 및 직업에 따른 업종별 공학기초능력의 실제 중요도를 조사하였으며 공학기초능력에 대한 교육 요구도 함께 조사하였다. 이 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 공대 졸업생들의 대학 졸업 시 전체적인 공학기초능력 수준은 5점 만점에 평균 3.3점이었다. 12가지 공학기초능력 중에서 직업 윤리적 책임 의식의 수준은 비교적 높은 반면에 공학적 문제해결능력과 공학적 실무 능력 수준은 상대적으로 부족했다. 둘째, 공학기초능력의 실제 직업에서의 중요도를 조사한 결과 평균 3.7로 나타났다. 공학기초능력 중에서 의사전달능력의 중요도가 가장 높았으며, 수학 기초과학 공학 지식과 정보 기술 응용 능력이 상대적으로 중요도가 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 전체적으로 공학기초능력의 괴리 정도, 즉 교육 요구도는 0.48로 나타났다. 공학기초능력 중에서 교육 요구가 높은 것은 의사전달능력, 현실적 제한조건을 반영한 시스템 요소 공정 설계능력, 복합 학제적 팀워크능력, 세계문화이해와 국제적 협동능력, 그리고 자료 이해 및 분석 능력과 평생학습능력 등이었다. 위 연구 결과는 향후 공학교육 프로그램과 인증기준을 개선할 때에는 이를 적극 반영해야 할 것이다.

Influence of a Co-op Program on Participants' Academic Performance, Employment and Job Performance: Focusing on the Case of KOREATECH

  • KOREATECH has operated a Co-op program called 'Industry Professional Practice (IPP)' that allows students to work full-time in relevant industries for at least four months since 2012, and also developed a systematic performance evaluation model on the basis of Kirkpatrick's four-stage assessment model. This study aims to share KOREATECH's Levels 3 and 4 evaluation results which are clearly what practitioners and academic investigators of cooperative education want to know the most. For this purpose, a questionnaire survey was conducted for KOREATECH graduates and their superiors to examine influence of IPP experiences on employment and job performance. A total of 730 alumni who graduated within last 5 years participated in the survey, with 213 (29.2%) having IPP experiences, and 162 superiors rated their subordinates on seven performance criteria. The analysis results were mixed. On the one hand, employment rate of IPP participants was 89.7%, compared to 86.8% of alumni without field experiences. Participants of the IPP program were more satisfied with their salary and felt less unfair about their career and promotion opportunities than alumni without field experiences. On the other, superiors rated their subordinates without IPP experiences slightly more positively than IPP participants in terms of job performance. These contrasting results are judged to show strengths and weaknesses of the IPP program at the same time. The limitations of the study and future research directions are discussed at the last part.

공학교육인증제도 효과 분석 연구 (A Study on the Effects of Engineering Education Accreditation)

  • This study was implemented for the purpose of analyzing the effects of Engineering Education Accreditation. Now, 15 years has passed adopting the engineering education system. We need to analyze the effect that this system has changed on the ground of engineering education, and it cultivated the human resource. In order to achieve the purpose of this study, the survey were done on the professors, graduates, and workers. The results and conclusions of this study are summarized as follows: First, it is urgent need to change the system of accreditation, and to get the public trust on assessment. Second, it is necessary to make circumstance that engineering education accreditation is advertised to the industries, and the industry can join the development, consulting, evaluation of curriculum. Third, government needs to make the policy that gives the incentive to the industries, if they give some merits to the accreditation graduates. Fourth, certificate of program graduate is desired to spread the accreditation proliferation. Fifth, government should systemize that accreditation program can get advantage to be selected for the public finance business(e.g. BK, LINC).. It will impact the quality Improvement and accountability of engineering programs.
