We demonstrate that the performance of amorphous indium-gallium-zinc-oxide (IGZO) thin-film transistors (TFT) can be optimized by controlling the interfaces between IGZO and sandwiching insulators and by proper deposition of IGZO layer. Specifically, contact and channel resistances are decreased by reducing IGZO bulk resistance and optimizing dry-etch process, respectively. Field-effect mobility ($\mu_{FE}$) and subthreshold gate swing (S) are further enhanced by fine-tuning IGZO deposition condition.

Tin doped indium oxide(ITO) and Al doped zinc oxide(ZnO:Al) films, which are widely used as a transparent conductor in optoelectronic devices such as solar cell, liquid crystal display, plasma display panel, thermal heater, and other sensors, were prepared by using the capacitively coupled DC magnetron sputtering method. The electrical and optical properties of both the ITO and ZnO:Al thin films were investigated as functions of substrate temperature, working gas pressure and deposition time. ITO and ZnO:Al films with the the present experimental conditions of temperature and pressure showed resistivity of $2.36{\times}10^{-4}{\Omega}-cm,\;9.42{\times}10^{-4}{\Omega}-cm$ and transmittance of 86.28%, 90.88% in the wavelength range of the visible spectrum, respectively.

GaN-based light-emitting diodes (LEDs) with ZnO nanorod arrays on a planar indium tin oxide (ITO) transparent electrode were demonstrated. ZnO nanorods were grown into aqueous solution at low temperature of $90^{\circ}C$. Under 20 mA current injection, the light output efficiency of the LED with ZnO nanorod arrays on ITO was remarkably increased by about 40 % of magnitude compared to the conventional LED with only planar ITO. The enhancement of light output by the ZnO nanorod arrays is due to the formation of side walls and a rough surface resulting in multiple photon scattering at the LED surface.
A transparent quantum dot (QD)-based light-emitting diode (LED) with silver nanowire (Ag NW) and indium-tin oxide (ITO) hybrid electrode is demonstrated. The device consists of an Ag NW-ITO hybrid cathode (-), zinc oxide, poly (9-vinylcarbazole) (PVK), CdSe/CdZnS QD, tungsten trioxide, and ITO anode (+). The device shows pure green-color emission peaking at 548 nm, with a narrow spectral half width of 43 nm. Devices with hybrid cathodes show better performances, including higher luminance with higher current density, and lower threshold voltage of 5 V, compared with the reference device with a pure Ag NW cathode. It is worth noting that our transparent device with hybrid cathode exhibits a lifetime 9,300 seconds longer than that of a device with Ag NW cathode. This is the reason that the ITO overlayer can protect against oxidization of Ag NW, and the Ag NW underlayer can reduce the junction resistance and spread the current efficiently. The hybrid cathode for our transparent QD LED can applicable to other quantum structure-based optical devices.
This study examined In-Zn-Sn-O (IZTO) films deposited on glass substrates by pulsed DC magnetron sputtering with various substrate temperatures. The structural, electrical, optical properties were analyzed. Xray diffraction showed that the IZTO films prepared at temperatures > $150^{\circ}C$ were crystalline which adversely affected the electrical properties. Amorphous IZTO films prepared at $100^{\circ}C$ showed the best properties, such as a low resistivity, high transmittance, figure of merit, and high work function of $4.07{\times}10^{-4}\;{\Omega}$, 85%, $10.57{\times}10^{-3}\;{\Omega}^{-1}$, and 5.37 eV, respectively. This suggests that amorphous IZTO films deposited at relatively low substrate temperatures ($100^{\circ}C$) are suitable for electrode applications, such as OLEDs as a substitute for conventional crystallized ITO films.
In this work, the properties of Indium-Zinc-Tin-Oxide (IZTO) thin films, deposited on polyethylene naphthalate (PEN) with a $SiO_2$ buffer layer, were analyzed with different working pressures. After depositing the $SiO_2$ buffer layer on PEN substrates by plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD), the IZTO thin films were deposited by RF magnetron sputtering with 1 to 7-mTorr working pressure. All the IZTO thin films show an amorphous structure, regardless of the working pressure. The best morphological, electrical, and optical properties are obtained at 3-mTorr working pressure, with a surface roughness of 2.112-nm, a sheet resistance of $8.87-{\Omega}/sq$, and a transmittance at 550-nm of 88.44%. These results indicate that IZTO thin films deposited on PEN have outstanding electrical and optical properties, and the PEN plastic substrate is a suitable material for display devices.
A new flexible TFT backplane structure with improved mechanical reliability is proposed. Amorphous indium-gallium-zinc-oxide (a-IGZO) thin film transistors based on this structure have been fabricated on a polyimide substrate, and the resultant mechanical durability has been evaluated in a cyclic bending test. The panel can withstand 10,000 bending cycles at a bending radius of 5 mm without any noticeable TFT degradation. After 10K bending cycles, the change of threshold voltage, mobility, sub-threshold slope, and gate leakage current were only -0.22V, -0.13$cm^2$/V-s, -0.05V/decade, and $-3.05{\times}10^{-13}A$, respectively.

We have investigated the characteristics of transparent indium zinc oxide(IZO)/Ag/IZO multilayer electrode grown on polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrates using a specially designed roll-to-roll sputtering system for use in flexible device are described. By the continuous R2R sputtering of the bottom IZO, Ag, and top IZO layers at room temperature, we were able to fabricate an IZO-Ag-IZO multilayer electrode with a sheet resistance of 6.15 ${\Omega}$/square, optical transmittance of 87.4 %, and figure of merit value of 42.03 10-3 ${\Omega}$-1. In addition, the IZO-Ag-IZO multilayer electrode exhibited superior flexibility to the RTR sputter grown single ITO electrode, due to the existence a ductile Ag layer between the IZO layers. This indicates that the RTR sputtered IZO-Ag-IZO multilayer is a promising flexible electrode that can substitute for the conventional single ITO electrode grown by bath type sputtering for use in low cost flexible device, due to its low resistance, high transparency, superior flexibility and fast preparation by the R2R process.
The authors report on the fabrication of thin film transistors (TFTs) that use amorphous indium-gallium-zinc oxide (a-IGZO) channel and have the channel length (L) and width (W) patterned by dry etching. To prevent the plasma damage of active channel, a 100-nm-thckness $SiO_{x}$ by PECVD was adopted as an etch-stopper structure. IGZO TFT (W/L=10/50${\mu}m$) fabricated on glass exhibited the high performance mobility of $35.8\;cm^2/Vs$, a subthreshold gate voltage swing of $0.59V/dec$, and $I_{on/off}$ of $4.9{\times}10^6$. In addition, 4.1” transparent QCIF active-matrix organic light-emitting diode display were successfully fabricated, which was driven by a-IGZO TFTs.

The dependency of sputtering power on the electrical performances in amorphous HIZO-TFT (hafnium-indium-zinc-oxide thin film transistors) has been investigated. The HIZO channel layers were prepared by using radio frequency (RF) magnetron sputtering method with different sputtering power at room temperature. TOF-SIMS (time of flight secondary ion mass spectrometry) was performed to confirm doping of hafnium atom in IZO film. The field effect mobility (${\mu}FE$) increased and threshold voltage ($V_{th}$) shifted to negative direction with increasing sputtering power. This result can be attributed to the high energy particles knocking-out oxygen atoms. As a result, oxygen vacancies generated in HIZO channel layer with increasing sputtering power resulted in negative shift in Vth and increase in on-current.
