  • This study proposed a Rural Amenity Values Assessment Model (RAVAM) to evaluate the rural amenity resources based on the Myun as a spatial unit. In RAVAM, 61 rural amenity resources were classified into almost intact nature resources, interaction between nature and man resources, man-made resources, respectively. Especially, Rural Scenic Value Index (RSVI) was developed to quantify rural scenic views as a rural amenity resource. RSVI was utilized in evaluation process of rural amenity resources. The weighing factors for the amenity resources were evaluated from the step wise pair-comparison results of 11 specialists by Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP). In the results, the weighting values of almost intact nature resources, interaction between nature and man resources, man-made resources were 496, 323 and 181, respectively, among total value being 1,000.

  • Tissue culture techniques arguably are an important approach for ex situ conservation of rare and endangered plant species. However, there is utmost importance on maintaining the genetic integrity of the introduced plants especially in tree species. To examine the genetic integrity of the micropropagated plants, we randomly screened few hardened plants of Syzygium travancoricum, a critically endangered tree taxon, using Randomly Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD) markers. Twenty-three random. primers were tried and twenty-five polymorphic loci were identified. The dendrogram based on the Unweighted Pair-Group Method Arithmetic Average and Nei's similarity index depicted about 97% homology between the mother plants and micropropagated plants. Further, an attempt was made to reintroduce the micropropagated plants in the wild. Over three hundred small trees could be successfully established.

  • This paper deals with the subsequence searching problem under time-warping. Our work is motivated by the observation that subsequence searches slow down quadratically as the average length of data sequences increases. To resolve this problem, the Segment-Based Approach for Subsequence Searches (SBASS) is proposed. The SBASS divides data and query sequences into a series of segments, and retrieves all data subsequences. Our segmentation scheme allows segments to have different lengths; thus we employ the time warping distance as a similarity measure for each segment pair. For efficient retrieval of similar subsequences, we extract feature vectors from all data segments exploiting their monotonically changing properties, and build a spatial index using feature vectors. The effectiveness of our approach is verified through extensive experiments.

  • Intraspecific genetic diversity of sixteen accessions of Mogolian Alliums including fifteen species was investigated using randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) analysis. Twenty three out of forty primers revealed scorable polymorphism. A total of 440 RAPD markers were generated on the 16 accessions of Mongolian Alliums. Among 440 RAPDs assayed, 439 were polymorphic with a mean polymorphic rate of 99.7%. Unweighted pair-group method using an arithmetic average (UPGMA) cluster analysis using RAPD data separated the 16 Allium accessions into two broad groups at similarity index 0.70. The clustering of the species was closely related with previous classification between A. altaicum and A. fistulosum. In addition, a high genetic similarity was showed between A. cepa and A. tagar.

  • Differential signaling has become a popular choice for high-speed interconnection schemes on Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs), offering superior immunity to external noise. However, conventional differential transmission lines on PCBs have problems, such as crosstalk and radiated emission. To overcome these, we propose a Twisted Differential Line (TDL) structure on a multi-layer PCB. Its improved immunity to crosstalk noise and the reduced radiated emission has been successfully demonstrated by measurement. The proposed structure is proven to transmit 3 Gbps digital signals with a clear eye-pattern. Furthermore, it is subject to much less crosstalk noise and achieves a 13 dB suppression of radiated emission. • In the ring loading problem, traffic demands are given for each pair of nodes in an undirected ring network with n nodes and a flow is routed in either of the two directions, clockwise and counter-clockwise. The load of a link is the sum of the flows routed through the link and the objective of the Problem is to minimize the maximum load on the ring. In the ring loading problem with integer demand splitting, each demand can be split between the two directions and the flow routed in each direction is restricted to integers. Recently, Vachani et al. [INFORMS J. Computing 8 (1996) 235-242] have developed an Ο(n$^3$) algorithm for solving this integer version of the ring loading problem and independently, Schrijver et al. [to appear in SIAM J. Disc. Math.] have presented an algorithm which solves the problem with {0,1} demands in Ο(n$^2$|K| ) time where K denotes the index set of the origin-desㅇtination pairs of nodes having flow demands. In this paper, we develop an algorithm which solves the problem in Ο(n |K|) time.

  • Edge coloring problem is to find a minimum cardinality coloring of the edges of a graph so that any pair of edges incident to a common node do not have the same colors. Edge coloring problem is NP-hard, hence it is unlikely that there exists a polynomial time algorithm. We formulate the problem as a covering of the edges by matchings and find valid inequalities for the convex hull of feasible solutions. We show that adding the valid inequalities to the linear programming relaxation is enough to determine the minimum coloring number(chromatic index). We also propose a method to use the valid inequalities as cutting planes and do the branch and bound search implicitly. An example is given to show how the method works.

  • In this paper, a generalized guidance law with an arbitrary pair of guidance coefficients for impact angle control is proposed. Under the assumptions of a stationary target and a lag-free missile with constant speed, necessary conditions for the guidance coefficients to satisfy the required terminal constraints are obtained by deriving an explicit closed-form solution. Moreover, optimality of the generalized impact-angle control guidance law is discussed. By solving an inverse optimal control problem for the guidance law, it is found that the generalized guidance law can minimize a certain quadratic performance index. Finally, analytic solutions of the generalized guidance law for a first-order lag system are investigated. By solving a third-order linear time-varying ordinary differential equation, the blowing-up phenomenon of the guidance loop as the missile approaches the target is mathematically proved. Moreover, it is found that terminal misses due to the system lag are expressed in terms of the guidance coefficients, homing geometry, and the ratio of time-to-go to system time constant.

  • In view of the deficiencies of existing weighted similarity indexes, a hierarchical clustering method initialize-expand-merge (IEM) is proposed based on the similarity of common neighbors for community discovery in weighted networks. Firstly, the similarity of the node pair is defined based on the attributes of their common neighbors. Secondly, the most closely related nodes are fast clustered according to their similarity to form initial communities and expand the communities. Finally, communities are merged through maximizing the modularity so as to optimize division results. Experiments are carried out on many weighted networks, which have verified the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. And results show that IEM is superior to weighted common neighbor (CN), weighted Adamic-Adar (AA) and weighted resources allocation (RA) when using the weighted modularity as evaluation index. Moreover, the proposed algorithm can achieve more reasonable community division for weighted networks compared with cluster-recluster-merge-algorithm (CRMA) algorithm.
