The wing in ground effect (WIG) ship is an energy saying vessel that uses the lift from its air-wing along with the lift increase from the ground effect by flying low above the sea surface. The WIG Ship should consist of thin plate in order to float on the sea and to fly in the air. Therefore, the structure of WIG, Ship has very thin and light shell plate and stiffener like stringer and frame has comparatively large cross section area. This structure makes shell plate nearly pure shear field when shell plate is pressed by in-plane load. This complex thin plate structure of WIG Ship can he considered as a closed section beam which makes it possible to analyze structure response of WIG Ship affected by shear load and bending load. In this respect, the present study will show basic theory for analysing shear stress and focus on the analysis of structure strength of model WIC Ship's wing.
Among severe plastic deformation methods, groove pressing is one of the prominent techniques for producing ultra-fine grained sheet materials. This process consists of imposing repetitive severe plastic deformation on the plate or sheet metals through alternate pressing. In the current study, a 2 mm pure Cu sheet has been subjected to repetitive shear deformation up to two passes. Hardness and tensile yield and ultimate stress were obtained after groove pressing. Fracture toughness tests have been performed and compared for three conditions of sheet material namely as received (initial annealed state), after one and two passes of groove pressing. Results of experiments indicate that a decrease in the values of fracture toughness attains as the number of constrained groove pressing (CGP) passes increase.
The current study is concerned with the prediction of fracture strains for DP980 steel sheets over a wide range of loading paths. The use of DP980 steel is increasing significantly in automotive industries for enhanced safety and higher fuel efficiency. The material behavior of advanced high-strength steels (AHSSs) sheets sometimes show unpredictable and sudden fracture during sheet metal forming. A modified Lou-Huh ductile fracture criterion is utilized to predict the formability of AHSSs because the conventional forming limit diagram (FLD) constructed based on necking is unable to evaluate the formability of AHSSs sheets. Fracture loci were extracted from three dimensional fracture envelopes by assuming the plane-stress condition to evaluate equivalent plastic strains at the onset of fracture for a wide range of loading paths. Three different types of specimens -- pure shear, dog-bone and plane strain grooved -- were utilized for tensile testing to calibrate the fracture model of DP980 steel sheets. Fracture strains of each loading path were evaluated such that there shows little deviation between fracture strains predicted from the fracture model and the experimental measurements. From the comparison, it is clearly shown that the three dimensional fracture envelopes can accurately predict the onset of the fracture of DP980 steel sheets for complicated loading conditions from compressive loading to shear loading and to equibiaxial tensile loading.

Recently, nine $1397{\times}1397{\times}178mm$ RC panels were tested under in-plane pure-shear monotonic loading condition using the Panel Element Tester by Hsu (1997, ACI). By combining the equilibrium, compatibility, and the softened stress-strain relationship of concrete in biaxial state, Modern Truss Model (MCFT, RA-STM) are capable of producing the nonlinear analysis of RC membrane panel through the complicated trial-and-error method with double loop. In this paper, an efficient algorithm with one loop is proposed for the refined Mohr compatibility Method based on the strut-tie failure criteria. This algorithm can be speedy calculated to analyze the shear history of RC membrane element using the results of Hsu test. The results indicate that the response of shear deformation energy at Big Bang of shear strain significantly influenced by the principal compressive stress-strain (crushing failure).
This study investigates the stress distribution in a transversely isotropic medium containing a spheroidal cavity where the medium is under uniaxial tension in z-direction in one case and pure shear in the plane of isotropy in another case. The technical approach used in this study combines exact analytical and numerical methods. The exact analytical method is based upon three potential functions taken in terms of the Legendre associated functions of the first and second kind. The numerical method is based upon the finite difference approach. Numerical results concerning the two loading conditions with five anisotropic materials are presented.

Because of their high out-of-plane and in-planes strength, trapezoidally corrugated plates have been increasingly used in buildings and bridges. If corrugated plates are used as the web of plate girders or prestressed concrete box girders, the flanges take most of the bending stress. On the other hand, the corrugated plate web supports shear stress due to the accordion effect. The corrugated plate web could fail by three different buckling modes: global, local, or interactive shear buckling. To determine the effects of geometric parameters on the buckling capacity of the corrugated plates, a parametric study was performed using finite dement method. The analysis results showed that the buckling capacity and modes depend on individual parameters as well as combinations of parameters.

Developments of Solid-State Gyroscopy during last decades are impressive and were based on thin-walled shell resonators like HRG or CRG made from fused quartz or leuko-sapphire. However, a number of design choices for inertial-grade gyroscopes, which can be used for high-g applications and for mass- or middle-scale production, is still very limited. So, considerations of fundamental physical effects in solids that can be used for development of a miniature, completely solid-state, and lower-cost sensor look urgent. There is a variety of different types of bulk acoustic (elastic) waves (BAW) in anisotropic solids. Shear waves with different variants of their polarization have to be studied especially carefully, because shear sounds in glasses and crystals are sensitive to a turn of the solid as a whole, and, so, they can be used for development of gyroscopic sensors. For an isotropic medium (for a glass or a fine polycrystalline body), classic Lame's theorem (so-called, a general solution of Elasticity Theory or Green-Lame's representation) has been modified for enough general case: an elastic medium rotated about an arbitrary set of axes. Travelling, standing, and mixed shear waves propagating in an infinite isotopic medium (or between a pair of parallel reflecting surfaces) have been considered too. An analogy with classic Foucault's pendulum has been underlined for the effect of a turn of a polarizational plane (i.e., an integration effect for an input angular rate) due to a medium's turn about the axis of the wave propagation. These cases demonstrate a whole-angle regime of gyroscopic operation. Single-crystals are anisotropic media, and, therefore, to reflect influence of the crystal's rotation, classic Christoffel-Green's tensors have been modified. Cases of acoustic axes corresponding to equal velocities for a pair of the pure-transverse (shear) waves have of an evident applied interest. For such a special direction in a crystal, different polarizations of waves are possible, and the gyroscopic effect of "polarizational precession" can be observed like for a glass. Naturally, formation of a wave pattern in a massive elastic body is much more complex due to reflections from its boundaries. Some of these complexities can be eliminated. However, a non-homogeneity has a fundamental nature for any amorphous medium due to its thermodynamically-unstable micro-structure, having fluctuations of the rapidly-frozen liquid. For single-crystalline structures, blockness (walls of dislocations) plays a similar role. Physical nature and kinematic particularities of several typical "drifts" in polarizational BAW gyros (P-BAW) have been considered briefly too. They include irregular precessions ("polarizational beats") due to: non-homogeneity of mass density and elastic moduli, dissymmetry of intrinsic losses, and an angular mismatch between propagation and acoustic axes.
Fracture of Al2O3 tubes for different loading path under combined tension/torsion was investigated. Macroscopic directions of crack propagation agreed well with the maximum principal stress criterion, independent of the loading path. However, fracture strength from the proportional loading test($\tau$/$\sigma$= constant) showed either strengthening or weakening compared to that from uniaxial tension, depending on the ratio $\tau$/$\sigma$. The Weibull theory was capable to predict the strengthening of fracture strength in pure torsion, but not the weakening in the proportional loading condition. The strengthening or weakening of fracture strength in the proportional loading condition was explained by the effect of shear stresses in the plane of randomly oriented microdefects. Finally, a new empirical fracture criterion was proposed. This criterion is based on a mixed mode fracture criterion and experimental data for fracture of Al2O3 tubes under combined tension/torsion. The proposed fracture criterion agreed well with experimental data for both macroscopic directions of crack propagation and fracture strengths.
Ductile fracture prediction is critical for the reasonable damage extent assessment of ships and offshore structures subjected to accidental loads, such as ship collisions and groundings. A fracture model combining the Hosford-Coulomb ductile fracture model with the domain of solid-to-shell equivalence model (HC-SDDE), was used in fracture simulations based on shell elements for the punching fracture experiments of unstiffened and stiffened panels. The flow stress and ductile fracture characteristics of JIS G3131 SPHC steel were identified through tension tests for flat bar, notched tension bar, central hole tension bar, plane strain tension bar, and pure shear bar specimens. Punching fracture tests for unstiffened and stiffened panels are conducted to validate the presented HC-DSSE model. The calibrated fracture model is implemented in a user-defined material subroutine. The force-indentation curves and final damage extents obtained from the simulations are compared with experimental results. The HC-DSSE fracture model provides reasonable estimations in terms of force-indentation paths and residual damage extents.
Fracture of Al2O3 tubes for different loading path under combined tension/torsion was investigated. Macroscopic directions of crack propagation agreed well with the maximum principal stress criterion, independent of the loading path. However, fracture strength from the proportional loading test(τ/σ= constant) showed either strengthening or weakening compared to that from uniaxial tension, depending on the ratio τ/σ.
