  • Purpose While the popularity of C2C auction platforms such as eBay is gradually decreased, this domain is still undermined to explain online bidding behaviors. Online bidders sometimes engage in impulsive bidding due to some of the online auction characteristics. Therefore, this study develops and tests a model of the impulsive bidding exhibited by online bidders in C2C auction platforms. Based on S-O-R framework, our model posits that both perceived time-pressure and competition intensity affect cognitive absorption which ultimately influences the impulsive bidding. Design/methodology/approach This study collected survey data from 214 C2C auction participants, who have prior experience on impulsive bidding and tested both measurement model and structural model by using CB-SEM (covariate-based structural equation modelling) technique. In this study, by using AMOS 20.0, we tested the measurement model for its overall fit, item reliability, and validity and further conducted the structural model to test our proposed hypotheses. Findings Based on our results, we found that perceived tim-pressure and competition intensity were positively related to cognitive absorption. We also found that the cognitive absorption was positively associated with impulsive bidding behavior. In this study, by developing our research model in S-O-R framework, we provide an alternative theoretical mechanism to describe online impulsive bidding behavior.

  • The response of ship roll oscillation under random ice impulsive loads modeled by Poisson arrival process is very important in studying the safety of ships navigation in cold regions. Under both external and parametric random excitations the evolution of the probability density function of roll motion is evaluated using the path integral (PI) approach. The PI method relies on the Chapman-Kolmogorov equation, which governs the response transition probability density functions at two close intervals of time. Once the response probability density function at an early close time is specified, its value at later close time can be evaluated. The PI method is first demonstrated via simple dynamical models and then applied for ship roll dynamics under random impulsive white noise excitation.

  • We present a theoretical study on how the plasmasphere responses to the sudden impulses in the magnetosphere. A mechanism on how Pi 2 pulsations are excited in the magnetosphere is also proposed. When impulsive disturbances associated with the substorm onset are assumed in the magnetotail, their propagation toward the sunward direction is investigated with a wave equation. The propagation speed undergoes serious variations owing to the existence of the plasmasphere, which results in various reflection and tunneling of traveling disturbances at the plasmapause. In order to examine the effect of the plasmapause on initial impulsive disturbances, we analytically solve the wave equation based on the model of reasonable Alfven speed profile. The exact solution shows that virtual resonant states exist inside the plasmaspheric cavity. We obtain the result that these unique modes strongly persist for arbitrary incoming impulses from the source in the magnetotail, which quantitatively corresponds to the signature of PI 2 pulsations.

  • In this paper, we consider an impulsive nonlinear second order ordinary differential equation with nonlinear three-point boundary conditions and develop a monotone iteration scheme by relaxing the convexity assumption on the function involved in the differential equation and the concavity assumption on nonlinearities in the boundary conditions. In fact, we obtain monotone sequences of iterates (approximate solutions) converging quadratically to the unique solution of the impulsive three-point boundary value problem.

  • We consider an optimal control problem for an impulsive stage-structured model involving ordinary differential equations with impulsive values of initial conditions in the next year. The main goal is to maximize a profit of the catch of Pacific cod in the South Korea through optimal harvest strategy as a control of adult cod. We established necessary conditions for the optimal harvest control using idea of Pontryagin's maximum principle. The optimal harvest strategy is to numerically solve the equation by using an iterative method with the Runge-Kutta method. Finally, we compare a monthly average of fishing mortality of Pacific cod from 2013 to 2017 with monthly fishing mortality for result obtained optimal harvest strategy.

  • In this article, we study the existence and uniqueness of mild and classical solutions for a nonlinear impulsive differential equation with nonlocal conditions u'(t) = Au(t) + f(t, u(t); Tu(t); Su(t)), $0{\leq}t{\leq}T_0$, $t{\neq}t_i$, u(0) + g(u) = $u_0$, ${\Delta}u(t_i)=I_i(u(t_i))$, i = 1,2,${\ldots}$p, 0<$t_1$<$t_2$<$\cdots$<$t_p$<$T_0$, in a Banach space X, where A is the infinitesimal generator of a $C_0$ semigroup, g constitutes a nonlocal conditions, and ${\Delta}u(t_i)=u(t_i^+)-u(t_i^-)$ represents an impulsive conditions.

  • This paper is the first paper among two papers which constitute the paper about the rigid body dynamic analysis on the spent nuclear disposal canister under accidental drop and impact on to the ground. This paper performed the general theoretical study on the rigid body dynamic analysis. Through this study the impulsive force which is occurring in the spent nuclear fuel disposal canister under accidental drop and impact to the ground and required for the structural safety design of the canister is intended to be theoretically formulated. The main content of the theoretical study is about the equation of motion in the multibody dynamics. On the basis of this study the impulsive force which is occurring in the multibody in the case of collision between multibody is theoretically formulated. The application of this theoretically formulated impulsive force to computing the impulsive force occurring in the spent nuclear fuel disposal canister under accidental drop and impact to the ground is investigated.

  • In this paper, the effect of impulsive line on the propagation of shear waves in non-homogeneous elastic layer is investigated. The rigidity and density in the intermediate layer is assumed to vary quadratic as functions of depth. The dispersion equation is obtained by using the Fourier transform and Green's function technique. The study ends with the mathematical calculations for transmitted wave in the layer. These equations are in complete agreement with the classical results when the non-homogeneity parameters are neglected. Various curves are plotted to show the effects of non-homogeneities on shear waves in the intermediate layer.
