Reliability-Based Design Optimization (RBDO) is an appropriate framework for obtaining optimal designs by taking uncertainties into account. Large-scale problems with implicit limit state functions and problems with discrete design variables are two significant challenges to traditional RBDO methods. To overcome these challenges, this paper proposes a hybrid method to perform RBDO of structures that links Firefly Algorithm (FA) as an optimization tool to advanced (finite element) reliability methods. Furthermore, the Genetic Algorithm (GA) and the FA are compared based on the design cost (objective function) they achieve. In the proposed method, Weighted Simulation Method (WSM) is utilized to assess reliability constraints in the RBDO problems with explicit limit state functions. WSM is selected to reduce computational costs. To performing RBDO of structures with finite element modeling and implicit limit state functions, a First-Order Reliability Method (FORM) based on the Direct Differentiation Method (DDM) is utilized. Four numerical examples are considered to assess the effectiveness of the proposed method. The findings illustrate that the proposed RBDO method is applicable and efficient for RBDO problems with discrete and continuous design variables and finite element modeling.

Pioneering work by Terzaghi imparted scientific and mathematical bases to many aspects of this subject and many people use this theory to measure the consolidation settlement until now. In this paper, Finite Difference Methods for consolidation are considered. First, it is shown the stability criterion of Explicit scheme and the Crank-Nicolson scheme, although unconditionally stable in the mathematical sense, produces physically unrealistic solutions when the time step is large. it is also shown that The Fully Implicit scheme shows more satisfactory behavior, but is less accurate for small time steps. and then we need to decide what scheme is more proper to consolidation. The purpose of this paper is to suggest the pertinent scheme to consolidation.
An accurate and cost efficient method PSE is used for the stability analysis of 2D or 3D compressible boundary layers. A highly accurate finite difference PSE code has been developed at a general curvilinear coordinate system using an implicit marching procedure to deal with a broad range of transition predictions problems. Evolution of disturbances in compressible flat plate boundary layers are studied for free-stream Mach numbers ranging from 0 to 1.5. The effect of mean-flow nonparallelism is found to be weak on two dimensional waves and strong on three dimensional waves. The maximum amplification rate increases monotonically with Mach number. The present PSE solutions are compared with previous numerical investigations and experimental results and are found to be in good agreement.

A numerical analysis of initial unsteady state flow and heat transfer in an enclosed cavity has been performed by the Modified QUICK Scheme. The stable QUICK Scheme which modified the coefficient always to be positive is included in this numerical analysis. The implicit method is applied to solve the unsteady state flow; between iterations the PISO (Pressure - Implicit with Splitting of Operators) algorithm is employed to correct and update the velocity and pressure fields on a staggered grid. The accuracy of the Modified QUICK Scheme is proved by applying fewer grid systems than those which Ghia et al. and Davis applied. The initial unsteady mixed convection in an enclosed cavity is analyzed using the above numerical procedure. This study focuses on the development of the large main vortex and secondary vortex in forced convection, the effects of the Rayleigh Number in natural convection and the relative direction of the forced and natural convection.

The liquid sloshing in an elastic tank is a fluid-structure interaction problem. It requires nonlinear analysis to solve the complicated physics involved in the large interaction of fluid-structure, the variation of dynamic characteristics of structure due to hydrodynamic loading, and the distorsion of fluid flow due to structural vibration. In this paper a Lagrangian FEM is introduced to analyze the liquid sloshing in an elastic tank assuming that the elastic wall is one degree of freedom rigid wall. Numerical integration is performed using an implicit-explicit algorithm, which is formed by mixing the predictor-corrector method and the Runge-Kutta 4th order method. The influence of dynamic characteristics of the sloshing tank on the fluid flow is discussed. The numerical method is also applied for the simulation of the wall generated wave in the tank.

While implicit integration methods such as Newton's method have excellent stability for the analysis of stiff and constrained mechanical systems, they have the drawback that the evaluation and LU-factorization of the system Jacobian matrix required at every time step are time-consuming. This paper proposes a Jacobian update-free Newton's method in order to overcome these defects. Because the motions of all bodies in a vehicle model are limited with respect to the chassis body, the equations are formulated with respect to the moving chassis-body reference frame instead of the fixed inertial reference frame. This makes the system Jacobian remain nearly constant, and thus allows the Newton's method to be free from the Jacobian update. Consequently, the proposed method significantly decreases the computational cost of the vehicle dynamic simulation. This paper provides detailed generalized formulation procedures for the equations of motion, constraint equations, and generalized forces of the proposed method.

In order to make a numerical modeling for the one dimensional unsteady flow which expressed by Saint Venant partial differential equations, Preissmann's implicit scheme was used, and it's stability and accuracy was mentioned. By introducing recurrence relations make it possible to use double sweep algorithm. Effective parameters to the result were the values of the $\Delta$t/$\Delta$x, $\theta$ and the chezy coefficient. In oder to get numerical solutions with enough accuracy, $\Delta$t/$\Delta$x should not be far from the value of 1, and the criteria of the $\theta$ was 0.6<$\theta$<1.0 for the stability without condition. This model should be calibrated by real field data, and expected to be developed for the simulation of the river system and to the long wave analysis for one dimensional coastal zone problem.
The delta-formulation of the Navier-Stokes equations has been popularly used in the aerodynamics area. Implicit algorithm can be easily implemented in that by using Taylor series expansion. This formulation is extended for an unsteady analysis by using a dual-time integration. In the meanwhile, the incompressible flows with heat transfers which occur in the area of thermo-hydraulics have been solved by a segregated algorithm such as the SIMPLE method, where each equation is discretised by using an under-relaxed deferred correction method and solved sequentially. In this study, the dual-time delta formulation is implemented in the segregated Navier-Stokes solver which is based on the collocated cell-centerd scheme with un unstructured mesh FVM. The pressure correction equation is derived by the SIMPLE method. From this study, it was found that the Euler dual-time method in the delta formulation can be combined with the SIMPLE method.
Smart space is a technology that supports humans by interacting with the surrounding environment. Smart space has a built-in dynamic intelligent environment. This paper proposes a framework that provides user-customized dynamic intelligent environments in smart spaces. In the existing research that provides user-customized intelligent services, users' interests are only explicitly analyzed, and smart spaces are not considered. Implicit interest analysis can suggest a service that may be of interest to users rather than explicit interest analysis, but it requires higher performance than explicit interest analysis. Smart spaces can obtain useful information by interacting with information in the space. The framework proposed in the study uses a proximity-based social network of things to fit into a smart space. In addition, the implicit interest analysis provides intelligent information for smart spaces using the social media information and spatial information objects. In addition, we propose a method to prevent performance degradation while maintaining accuracy in consideration of the characteristics of the smart space.

Using a level set method and topological derivatives, a topological shape optimization method that is independent of an initial design is developed for linearly elastic structures. In the level set method, the initial domain is kept fixed and its boundary is represented by an implicit moving boundary embedded in the level set function, which facilitates to handle complicated topological shape changes. The 'Hamilton-Jacobi (H-J)' equation and computationally robust numerical technique of 'up-wind scheme' lead the initial implicit boundary to an optimal one according to the normal velocity field while minimizing the objective function of compliance and satisfying the constraint of allowable volume. Based on the asymptotic regularization concept, the topological derivative is considered as the limit of shape derivative as the radius of hole approaches to zero. The required velocity field to update the H -J equation is determined from the descent direction of Lagrangian derived from optimality conditions. It turns out that the initial holes is not required to get the optimal result since the developed method can create holes whenever and wherever necessary using indicators obtained from the topological derivatives. It is demonstrated that the proper choice of control parameters for nucleation is crucial for efficient optimization process.
