The softening hyperelastic model based on the strain energy limitation is of clear concepts and simple forms to describe the failure of materials. In this study, a linear and a nonlinear softening hyperelastic model are proposed to characterize the deformation and the failure in granular materials by introducing a softening function into the shear part of the strain energy. A method to determine material parameters introduced in the models is suggested. Based on the proposed models the numerical examples focus on bearing capacity and strain localization of granular materials. Compared with Volokh softening hyperelasticity and classical Mohr-Coulomb plasticity, our proposed models are able to capture the typical characters of granular materials such as the strain softening and the critical state. In addition, the issue of mesh dependency of the proposed models is investigated.
In this study, developments of an efficient visco-hyperelastic constitutive equation for describing the time dependent material behavior accurately in dynamic and impact loading and finding related materials constants are considered. Based on proposed constitutive model, behaviour of a hollow cylinder elastomer bushing under different dynamic and impact loading conditions is studied. By implementing the developed visco-hyperelastic constitutive equation to LS-DYNA explicit dynamic finite element software a three dimensional model of the bushing is developed and dynamic behaviour of that in axial and torsional dynamic deformation modes are studied. Dynamic response and induced stress under different impact loadings which is rarely studied in previous researches have been also investigated. Effects of hyperelastic and visco-hyperelastic parameters on deformation and induced stresses as well as strain rate are considered.
This research investigates a rotary disk with variable cross-section and incompressible hyperelastic material with functionally graded properties in large hyperelastic deformations. For this purpose, a power relation has been used to express the changes in cross-section and properties of hyperelastic material. So that (m) represents the changes in cross-section and (n) represents the manner of changes in material properties. The constants used for hyperelastic material have been obtained from experimental data. The obtained equations have been solved for different m, n, and (angular velocity) values, and the values of radial stresses, tangential stresses, and elongation have been compared. The results show that m and n have a significant impact on disk behavior, so the expected behavior of the disk can be obtained by an optimal selection of these two parameters.
A strain energy density function is used to characterize the hyperelasticity of rubber-like materials. Conventional models, such as the Neo-Hookean, Mooney-Rivlin, and Ogden models, are widely used in automotive industries, in which the strain potential is derived from strain invariants or principal stretch ratios. A fitting procedure for experimental data is required to determine material constants for each model. However, due to the complexities of the mathematical expression, these models can only produce an accurate curve fitting in a specified strain range of the material. In this study, a hyperelastic model for Neodymium Butadiene rubber is developed by using the Artificial Neural Network. Comparing the analytical results to those obtained by conventional models revealed that the proposed model shows better agreement for both uniaxial and equibiaxial test data of the rubber.
Recently, the application of non-steel materials in ships and offshore plants is increasing because of the development of various nonlinear materials and the improvement of performance. Especially, hyper-elastic materials, which have a nonlinear stress-strain relationship, are used mainly in marine plant structures or ships where impact relaxation, vibration suppression, and elasticity are required, while elasticity must be maintained, even under high strain conditions. In order to simulate and evaluate the behavior of the hyperelastic material, it is very important to select an appropriate material model according to the strain of the material. This study focused on the selection of material models for hyperelastic materials, such as rubber used in the marine and offshore fields. Tension and compression tests and finite element simulations were conducted to compare the accuracy of the nonlinear material models due to variations in the stretch ratio of hyper-elastic material. Material coefficients of nonlinear material models are determined based on the curve fitting of experimental data. The results of this study can be used to improve the reliability of nonlinear material models according to stretch ratio variation.
We present the numerical algorithm for the model for high-strain rate deformation in hyperelastic-viscoplastic materials based on a fully conservative Eulerian formulation by Plohr and Sharp. We use a hyperelastic equation of state and the modified Steinberg and Lund's rate dependent plasticity model for plasticity. A two-dimensional approximate Riemann solver is constructed in an unsplit manner to resolve the complex wave structure and combined with the second order TVD flux. Numerical results are also presented.

Fused filament fabrication (FFF) is a process extruding and stacking materials. PLA materials are one of the most frequently used materials for FFF method of 3D printing. Polylactic acid (PLA)-based materials are among the most widely used materials for FFF-based three-dimensional (3D) printing. PLA is an eco-friendly material made using starch extracted from corn, as opposed to plastic made using conventional petroleum resin; PLA-based materials are used in various fields, such as packaging, aerospace, and medicines. However, it is important to analyze the mechanical properties of theses materials, such as elastic strength, before using them as structural materials. In this study, the reliability of PLA-based materials is assessed through an analysis of the changes in the linear elasticity of these materials under thermal degradation by applying a hyperelastic analytical model.

A meshless method which is the new computational method being developed recently, is applied to the simulation of large deformation problems. Among the many types of meshless methods, the Reproducing Kernel particle method (RKPM) is used and the nearly incompressible hyperelastic materials are employed in simulations. The meshless methods can avoid metsh distortions and mesh entanglements that may frequently happen when the mesh-based methods like finite element method are used for the simulations of largely deformed materials. A general features of meshless methods are reviewed and the formulation of RKPM is presented. Next, the performance of explicit RKPM is demonstrated by examples.

In this study, a new simple method for the estimation of hyperelastic material properties by indentation tests is proposed. Among hyperelastic material models, the Yeoh model with three material properties ($C_{10}$, $C_{20}$, $C_{30}$) is adopted to describe the strain energy density in terms of strain invariants. Finite element simulations of the spherical indentation of hyperelastic materials of the Yeoh model with different material properties are performed to establish a database of indentation force-displacement curves. The indentation force-displacement curves are fitted by cubic polynomials, which are approximated as a product of third-order polynomials of ($C_{10}$, $C_{20}$, $C_{30}$). A regression analysis is conducted to determine the coefficients of the equations for the indentation force-displacement curve approximations. A regression equation is used to estimate the hyperelastic material properties. The present method is verified by comparing the estimated material properties with true values.

Liquid silicone rubber(LSR) has been applied to various products such as electronic devices owing to its excellent thermal and chemical resistance. Hyperelastic materials, however, have properties distinguished from general metal materials. Hyperelastic materials show elastic behaviors in the range of large deformation in which load has the nonlinear relation with deformation. In addition, they have characteristics of nonlinearity, incompressibility, in large scale. On account of such characteristics, there are many difficulties in design and production using these materials. In this study, the load-deformation relation obtained from tension and compression tests was applied to finite element analysis in order to design waterproof connectors for automobiles. Furthermore, the effectiveness of the finite element analysis was confirmed by comparing the results of analysis with those of performance tests.
