  • SnO2-ThO2-PdCl2-In2O3 gas sensing ceramic systems were studied in order to lowr the operating temperatures and reduce the dependence of ambient temperatures and humidities. Sensing materials were coated by brush on the alumina tube followed by the impregnation of solidfier(ethylsilicate). Coated species were dried and sintered at 75$0^{\circ}C$ for 30min. carbon monoxide gas detecting sensitiviteis were measured in various ambinet temperatures and humidities. In the composition of 94SnO2-5ThO2-PdCl2 system carbon monoxide gas detecting sensors showed the highest detecting sensitivities and the lowest operating temperature(15$0^{\circ}C$). As the ambient temperatures and humidities were increased, sensitivities were decreased. Because the oscillation effects were observed at high humidities, it was suggested that the sensitivities of sensors depend greatly on the humidities.

  • The sorption characteristics of green tea were investigated at $20^{\circ}C$ with various relative humidities. Particle size showed little effect on the sorption behavior of green tea. At low relative humidities below 57%, the sorption equilibrium were easily attained, but a high relative humidities above 75%, the sorption equilibrium were not reached after 10 days. From the estimation of sorption rate at arbitrary humidities an empirical equation was obtained; $Ln{\frac{dw}{dt}}=nLn(t)+Lnc$ The monolayer moisture contents of green tea obtained by B.E.T. equation were found to be 7.87%(powder) and 7.01%(whole), respectively.

  • Fillets of mackerel (Scomber japonicus) and flounder (Xystrias grigorjewi) which, are representatives in red fleshed fish and white fleshed fish, respectively, were freeze-dried and stored in tightly sealed containers which were controlled to different relative humidity at $25^{\circ}C$. The changes of lipids were examined periodically by measuring the peroxide value (POV), the thiobarbituric acid (TBA) and the acid value (AV). And the fatty acid composition of lipids was investigated by gas-liquid chromatography (GLC). The results obtained are summarized as foollows: From the changes of POV and TBA value during storage, the oxidation of lipids was distinct at the lower relative humidities, $0\%\;and\;23\%$, while inhibited at the higher relative humidities, $52\%\;and\;81\%$. The changes in acid value during storage were more prominent at the hifger relative himidites than at the lower relative humidities. The content of $C_{16:0},\;C_{18:0}\;and\;C_{22:6}$ acids in the fatty acid composition of total lipids was abundant in both fleshed fishes. The content of $C_{18:1}$ acid in the nonpolar lipid and that of $C_{16:0}$ acid in the polar lipid were higher than other fatty acids. In the fatty acid composition of total lipids during storage, polyenoic acids decreased with storage period at $0\%\;and\;23\%$ relative humidities, while the fatty acid composition didn't show a great change at $52\%\;and\;81\%$ relative humidities. In the non-polar lipid, polyenoic acids coherently decreased under all the conditions of relative humidities but the saturated acids and the monoenoic acids increased. In the polar lipid, polyenoic acids decreased at $0\%\;and\;23\%$ relative humidities, while the saturated acids and monoenoic acids decreased at $52\%\;and\;81\%$ relative humidities. On the other hand, the oxidation of lipids was more significant in mackerel than in the flounder, and the changes of fatty acid composition were shown a similar pattern.

  • Although DLC coatings have good tribological properties, these are dependant on the deposition method, the property of contact surface, and test condition. Humidity, which has little influence on tribological behavior in macro scale, is an important factor of tribological behavior in small devices like MEMS. The objective of this study is to investigate the tribological behavior of DLC coatings with particular attention to their wettability at various humidities. DLC coatings were deposited on Si substrates and tested using a reciprocating friction tester against Si$_3$N$_4$balls at various humidities. The results showed that the tribological behavior of DLC coatings was dependant on relative humidity and wettablility of DLC coatings. Friction coefficient at high relative humidity was higher thar that at low relative humidity. The tungsten-containing DLC coatings had a good wear resistance at low relative humidity whereas DLC coatings derived from argon(Ar)+cesium(Cs) gases showed a good wear resistance at high relative humidity.

  • Many kind tree species are growing in Korea. However most of them are inferior in wood qualities and production for commercial utilization except several species. Among the useful several species Red Pine (Pinus densiflora S. et. Z.) is growing in main tree species and most generally utilizing wood in korean forest. It is used widely as mine timbers, cross ties, boxes, floorings, pulpwoods, constructions and engineerings. Although this species is most useful and economical in this country, the basical properties on relation between wood and relative humidities were not studied certainly. This study was performed by need of inspection the hygroscopic and swelling properties to be apllied for physical manufacturing. According to the results the Equilibrium Moisture Contents of each relative humidity conditions are as table (3), and the swelling values of sap and heartwood are as table (4) and (5) in text. In this study sapwood moisture contents are higher than heartwood in each relative humidities conditions. Tangential and radial ratios of average swelling values are 1:1.971 in sapwood and 1:2.178 in heartwood.

  • Polyacrylonitrile diagnostic membranes were prepared to make blood-glucose self-checking system for diabetics. After the prepared polyacrylonitrile membranes were stored at sereval different environments, final absorbances at 680 nm were measured at various concentration in blood. The mesured blood-glucose level did not show the big differences at the various storage temperatures. It was found that the blood-glucose level decreased a little bit compared to the standard value after $10{\sim}30$ hours at high humidities.

  • In order to control indoor air quality and save energy. it is needed to install a suitable ventilation system equipped with heat exchanger for heat recovery. Paper heat exchanger can recover $50{\sim}70$ of the enthalpy difference between supply and exhaust air. The purpose of this research is to obtain the experimental correlations for the friction factor, heat transfer coefficient, mass transfer coefficient and permeance of paper heat exchanger, which can be used for the performance prediction of the paper heat exchanger. Pressure drop at various velocities and heat transfer rate at various dry-bulb temperatures, relative humidities, and specific humidities are measured to make experimental correlations. The results of prediction using correlations show fairly good agreement with experimental data.

  • The effect of four different humidities during smokehouse processing on cured color development color intensity, pH, residual nitrite, phenol deposition, TBA value and product yield of Canadian bacon was determined. High humidity resulted in high pigment conversion and lower pH. As the humidity was lowered, more residual nitrite remained, The highest humidity had the highest phenol deposition and TBA value. The lowest humidity had the highest yield.

  • The new types of phenoxy-methylamino phosphazene diagnostic membranes were prepared to measure blood glucose level of diabetics. Firstly, effects of mesuring environments on the glucose measurements were examined. With activated phosphazene membranes, the end-point results of varing absorbance values according to time (K/S) were measured at 5, 15, 25, 35, $50^{\circ}C$ and also at 20% to 80% of relative humidities (RH). The slope values of K/S and glucose concentration(DRS) were not seriously affected at high measuring temperatures and humidities. Secondly, after prepared membranes were stored at various environments, the effects of storage temperatures and humidities on the glucose measurements were examined. After 8 weeks at $50^{\circ}C$, the storage time and temperatures did not affect on the glucose measurements with the new phosphazene membranes. The stabilities of new phosphazene diagnostic membranes were confirmed even at RH 80%.
