  • Due to its efficient red emission, $Eu^{3+}$ ion has been doped in various host materials. $GdCa_4B_3O_{10}:Eu^{3+}$ phosphor for red emission has been prepared by solid state reaction. Photoluminescence properties for the phosphor under UV and VUV excitation were investigated. The $GdCa_4B_3O_{10}:Eu^{3+}$ phosphor under both excitation conditions shows typical red emission spectrum centered at 611 nm with several weak peaks due to energy transfer from $^5D_O\;to\;^7F_J(J=1,2,3,4)$ of $Eu^{3+}$ ion. On the other hand, the activator content exhibiting the concentration quenching under UV and VUV irradiation is 10 mole% and 2.5 mole%, respectively.

  • Significant progress has been realized in the design and synthesis of light emitting polymers that emit over the entire visible spectrum. However, up to seventy-five percent of charge recombination events can lead to triplet states that decay non-radiatively. Following the pioneering work in the field of small molecule organic light emitting devices, it has been found that solution processible iridium polymer complexes can be used to harness the wasted triplet energy. In this paper, new results with respect to the electrophosphorescence of solution processible tethered iridium polymer derivatives are presented. Furthermore, our approaches to the design of new high triplet energy conjugated polymer hosts are also reported.

  • Iridovirus is an icosahedral cytoplasmic double-stranded DNA virus with a genome size of 170-200kb. Outbreaks of fish iridovirus infection are characterized by their wide geographic distribution and broad host spectrum, especially in water temperatures of $25-27^{\circ}C$ Recently, the causative agent of high mortalities in flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus) was identified as fish iridovirus in Korea. Iridoviral infection repeatedly occurs in the same area for long periods, suggesting the possibility of viral infection in nursery. To examine this, the existence of iridovirus in juvenile flounders was detected by PCR using virus-specific primers. Antibodies induced against this virus were also examined using ELISA. As a result, juvenile fish in nursery were found to be previously infected with iridovirus, suggesting that proper prevention systems are required.

  • Gamma ray burst, the most brightest explosion phenomena in the current universe is well suited for study of high redshift universe. We report the afterglow multi-wavelength observation and GTC spectroscopy follow up of GRB 140304A which was exploded at z=5.283. The spectrum was shown damped Lyman alpha features and a series of absorption lines S, Si, SiII*, Oi, CII, CII*, SiIV are clearly detected at common redshift. Clear optical flares are detected when X-ray flare happened and a possible gamma-ray excess also. At this conference, we report on implications for the GRB host and environments using its absorption features which place the results in context to other well studied high redshift GRBs and studies about the ejecta using its observed flaring activities.

  • Molecular structures were optimized for the 1,3-diethoxycalix[4]crown-5-ether (2) in the various isomers and their potassium-ion complexes by using B3LYP/6-31+G(d,p)//B1LYP/6-31G(d,p) method after ab initio RHF/6-31G calculation. The cone-shaped isomer of 2 with cr-binding mode has shown the strongest binding efficiency among the six different complexes attributed to seven electrostatic interactions between the potassium cation and the oxygen atoms of crown-5-ether and ethoxy groups of the host (2). The vibrational spectra of 2 and its K+-complexes were obtained by restricted Hartree-Fock (RHF) calculations with the 6-31G basis set. The characteristic vibrational frequencies of various C-O-C stretching and bending motions are analyzed.

  • Nucleotides are the building blocks of nucleic acids and essential for many cellular functions. In this study, ultrasonic absorption spectra of $\beta$-cyclodextrin ($\beta$-CD) and adenosine 5'-monophosphate (AMP) in aqueous solution were measured over the broad frequency range 0.1-40 MHz with emphasis on the low-frequency range below 1 MHz. Here we show that the interaction of $\beta$-CD and AMP complies with a typical spectrum of a single relaxation process. We determined reliable rate (kb) and equilibrium (K) constants and a standard volume change ($\Delta$V) of the reaction. They are $k_b=2.3{\times}{{10^{-6}}_s}^{-1},\;K=89M^{-1},\;and\;{\Delta}V=13.8(10^{-6}m^3mol^{-1})$, respectively.

  • To invest the luminescent characteristics of red light emitting OLED device, a dual dopant system was incorporated into the emitting layer. The multiple layer OLED device structure was $ITO(1500\;{\AA})/HIL(200\;{\AA})/a-NPD(600\;{\AA})/EML(300\;{\AA})/Alq_3(200\;{\AA})/LiF(7\;{\AA})/Al(1800\;{\AA})$. The concentrations of the rubrene dopant were tested at 0 vol.%, 3 vol.%, 6 vol.% and 9 vol.%. The maximum device efficiency and life time were obtained at the rubrene dopant concentration of 6 vol.%. Emission spectrum and color coordinate of devices showed no relationship with rubrene dopant concentration. Experiment results show that rubrene dopant absorbs energy from $Alq_3$ host and transfer it to RD1 dopant acting as an energy intermediate and influencing the device efficiency, finally the red light is emitted from the RD1 dopant.

  • Antimony doped tin oxyde thin films have been deposited by sol-gel method using non-alkoxide precursor SnCl$_2$$.$2H$_2$O as host and SbC1$_3$ as dopant material. Using spin coating method, thin films of thickness up to 200nm have been uniformly deposited on Corning 1737F non-alkali glass substrates. Effect of Sb doping concentration and heat treatment on electrical and optical properties was investigated. Heat treatment was performed at the temperature from 350$^{\circ}C$ to 650$^{\circ}C$ in flowing O$_2$. The resulting ATO films showed widely changing electrical resistivity and optical transmittance values in the visible spectrum depending on the composition and firing condition.

  • The lanthanide complexes have been anticipated to exhibit high efficiency along with a narrow emission spectrum. Photoluminescence for the lanthanide complex is characterized by a high efficiency since both singlet and triplet excitons are involve d in the luminescence process. However, the maximum external electroluminescence quantum efficiencies have exhibited values around 1% due to triplet-triplet annihilation at high current. Here, we proposed a new energy transfer mechanism to overcome triplet-triplet annihilation by the Eu complex doped into phosphorescent materials with triplet levels that were higher than singlet levels of the Eu complex. In order to show the feasibility of the proposed energy transfer mechanism and to obtain the optimal ligands and host material, we have calculated the effect depending on ligands as a factor that controls emission intensity in lanthanide complexes. The calculation shows that triplet state as well as singlet state of anion ligand affects on absorption efficiency indirectly.

  • Measurements of supermassive black hole (SMBH) masses are crucial in studying the co-evolution of SMBHs and their host galaxies. Although reverberation mapping is the most accurate method known to date, this requires spectroscopic monitoring over long periods. Thus, the current sample barely reaches three digits. The virial method, on the other hand, uses emission-line and continuum properties from a single spectrum to estimate the SMBH mass; hence the name single-epoch method. The Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) has observed spectra of almost all quasi-stellar objects (QSOs) discovered so far. Building on previous studies, using the single-epoch method, we estimate the SMBH masses of more than 500,000 QSOs from the SDSS DR14 Quasar Catalog. This increases the mass-estimated SMBH sample almost by a factor of two, and especially more for the low-mass regime, which was the main target of SDSS-IV (eBOSS).
