A study on the characteristics of the OLEDs using Ir complex for the blue phosphorescence (Ir complexes를 이용한 인광 발광 소자의 전기 광학적 특성 관한 연구)

  • Several iridium based complexes were investigated as blue phosphorescent dopants. They are achieved about 100 % quantum efficiencies due to utilization of both singlet and triplet excitons in the radiative processes. We have fabricated phosphorescent OLED with 8 % Ir$(ppz)_3$ as a triplet emissive dopnat in diverse host materials. In this study, the CBP obtained the luminance efficiency of 0.20 cd/A adapts to the host material. Furthermore, we synthesize metalorganic phosphor complexs based on Ir heavy metal with different ligands as to $Ir(ppz)_2acac$, $(Im)_2Ir(acac)$, $(Im-R)_2Ir(acac)$.

  • We have fabricated blue phosphorescent organic light emitting diodes (PHOLEDs) using a 3,5'-N,N'-dicarbazole-benzene (mCP) host and iridium (III) bis[(4,6-difluorophenyl)-pyridinato-N,$C^{2'}$] picolinate (Flrpic) guest materials, The Flrpic was partially doped into the mCP host layer, for investigating recombination zone, current efficiency, and emission characteristics of the blue PHOLEDs. The recombination of electrons and holes takes place inside the mCP layer adjacent to the mCP/hole blocking layer interface. The best current efficiency was obtained in a device with an emission layer structure of mCP (10 nm)/mCP:Flrpic (20 nm, 10%). The high current efficiency in this device was attributed to the confinement of Ffrpic triplet excitons by the undoped mCP layer with high triplet energy, which blocks diffusion of Ffrpic excitons to the adjacent hole transport layer with a lower triplet energy.

  • The diarylsilyl compound, C14H12Br4Si, was prepared from the reaction of 3,5-dibromophenyllithium with dimethyldichlorosilane, (CH3)2SiCl2, at -78 ℃, can be a good synthon for derivatization to produce efficient host materials for organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs). Crystal structure analysis shows a slight deviation from ideal tetrahedral symmetry around the Si atom, whose conformation is effective in ensuring the maximum separation of the two phenyl rings and the two methyl substituents. The directions of the two aromatic rings are almost perpendicular to each other. The molecule exists as a monomer in the solid state.

  • This experiment was conducted to improve the performance of chickens by the precise separation and analysis of chromosomes which are integrated genetic materials, and by the use of gene manipulation techniques. Following are the main results obtained. 1. When the chromosomes were separated through the leucocyte culture and analyzed by Giemsa banding techniques (especially by the method in which 20 layers of banding patterns could be found in chromosome #1), the normal Patterns of chromosomes #l-9 and sex chromosomes, and the location of constitutive heterochromatin without any gene activities in all chromosomes were discovered. 2. To utilize the primodial germ cells (PGC) as the genetic vector which is one of the most important gene manipulation techniques, PGC's from triploid were transplanted to normal host embryos. Since the donor PGC's(3n) were found in the gonads of growing host embryos gene manipulation in poultry using PGC's, seemed to be possible.

  • The blue emitting OLEDs using TMP-BiP[(4'-Benzoylferphenyl-4-yl)phenyl-methanone-Diethyl(biphenyl-4-ymethyl) phosphonate] host and DJNBD-1 dopant have been fabricated and characterized. In the device fabrication, 2-TNATA [4,4',4"-tris(2-naphthylphenyl-phenylamino)-triphenylamine] as a hole injection material and NPB [N,N'-bis(1-naphthyl)N,N'-diphenyl-1,1'-biphenyl-4,4'-diamine] as a hole transport material were deposited on the ITO(indium tin oxide)/glass substrate by vacuum thermal evaporation method. Followed by the deposition, blue color emission layer was deposited using TMP-BiP as a host material and DJNBD-1 as a dopant. Finally, small molecule OLEDs with structure of $ITO/2-TNATA/NPB/TMP-BiP:DJNBD-l/Alq_3/LiF/Al$ were obtained by in-situ deposition of $Alq_3$, LiF and Al as the electron transport material, electron injection material and cathode, respectively. The effect of dopant into host material of the blue OLEDs was studied. The blue OLEDs with DJNBD-1 dopant showed that the maximum current and luminance were found to be about 34 mA and $8110\;cd/m^2$ at 11 V, respectively. In addition, the color coordinate was x=0.17, y=0.17 in CIE color chart, and the peak emission wavelength was 440 nm. The maximum current efficiency of 2.15 cd/A at 7 V was obtained in this experiment.

  • Samples of yttrium oxide doped with trivalent europium have been prepared by ceramic techniques, under different synthesis conditions; barium chloride ($BaCl_2$) and sodium tetraborate ($Na_2B_4O_7$) were tested as flux. The improvement of luminescence properties in dependence on substitution of $Eu^{3+}$ for $Y^{3+}$ in the host lattice, under electron and UV excitations is demonstrated The obtained results are discussed with respect to the employed processing method.

  • Due to an efficient red emission, $Eu^{+3}$ ions have doped in various host materials. Eu-doped $LaPO_4/LaPO_4$ core/shell nanophosphor which emits red light in visible range, was synthesized by using a solution system. The mean size of the nanoparticle observed by TEM was about 7-8 nm. In this core/shell system, the thickness of $LaPO_4$ shell was optimized on the basis of relative PL emission intensity. In addition, the luminescent properties of $LaPO_4:Eu/LaPO_4$ core/shell particle have been compared with Eu-doped $LaPO_4$ bulk particle and nanoparticle.

  • Achiral swallow-tailed liquid crystals derived from 1,3-dialkoxy-2-propanol were prepared and their mesomorphic properties were investigated. 1,3-Dialkoxy-2-propyl swallow-tailed material showed antiferroelectric-like smectic C phase at lower temperature and in broader temperature range than the corresponding compounds with a branched alkyl group as a swallow-tail. They could serve as suitable host for antiferroelectric mixtures.

  • We have developed the active matrix OLED displays with a high efficiency red emission material which uses an emitting assist (EA) dopant system. The EA dopant (rubrene) did not itself emit but assisted the energy transfer from the host ($Alq_s$) to the red emitting dopant(DCM2). A stable red emission (chromaticity coordinates: x=0.64, y=0.36) was obtained in this cell within the luminance range of 100 - 4000 $cd/m^2$ By using EA dopant system, we can realize the reduction of the power consumption of the OLED display..

Luminescence of $Eu^{3+}-doped\;GdCa_4B_3O_{10}$ phosphor under UV and VUV irradiation

  • Due to its efficient red emission, $Eu^{3+}$ ion has been doped in various host materials. $GdCa_4B_3O_{10}:Eu^{3+}$ phosphor for red emission has been prepared by solid state reaction. Photoluminescence properties for the phosphor under UV and VUV excitation were investigated. The $GdCa_4B_3O_{10}:Eu^{3+}$ phosphor under both excitation conditions shows typical red emission spectrum centered at 611 nm with several weak peaks due to energy transfer from $^5D_O\;to\;^7F_J(J=1,2,3,4)$ of $Eu^{3+}$ ion. On the other hand, the activator content exhibiting the concentration quenching under UV and VUV irradiation is 10 mole% and 2.5 mole%, respectively.
