  • In this research a novel two-reference-beam double pulse holographic technique for the measurments of particle sizes and velocities was developed. This holographic method features the capability of separation of the first and second particle images by using two reference beams instead of one and the change of the polarization direction of laser light. The developed holographic system was tested through the measurements of droplet sizes and velocities in the spray created by two high speed impinging jets. The overall spray pattern clearly revealed the inherent wave nature. Smaller and faster droplets were generated with larger impingement angle, higher jet velocity. and smaller orifice diameter.

  • In this paper. we presented 1 & 2 dimensional minimum mean-squared-error (MMSE) equalization scheme in a digital holographic data storage system to improve bit-error-rate (BER) and to mitigate inter-symbol interference (ISI) which were generated during the data storage and retrieval processes. We showed experimentally for ten data pages retrieved from the holographic storage system that BER and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) were improved by adopting MMSE equalization.

  • When a one-dimensional telecentric paraxial holographic kinoform is used as a Fourier transform lens, we analyzed three surface-relief structures, i.e., plano-convex, convex-plano and biconvex shapes, employing exact raytracing method based on Snell's law. For the kinoform of E/8 and focal length of 15 mm, the number of zones, the thickness, and the slope of parabolic surfaces are varied by changing the refractive indicies of kinoform material and surrounding medium. It is found that biconvex shape gives the best results in general, although off-axis performance degrades in all cases as the slope of parabolic surfaces increases.

  • Mode shapes and natural frequencies of vibrating laminated composite plates are taken using real-time and time-average holographic interferometry. Debonds and delamination in the laminated plates are measured nondestructively. During holographic testing of composite plates, it has been found that the conditions for the local resonance in debonds are strongly dependent on the frequency of excitation. A membrane resonance model was proposed to describe this behavior. Relations between characteristic length according to the size, shape of debonds and membrane resonance frequency are presented. Several experiments were performed to verify the membrane resonance model. The agreements between the predicted excitation frequency and the observed resonance frequency are good. The experimental results show that higher stresses and strains due to local resonance lead to the debond detection.

  • In this paper, a new method to efficiently generate the holographic news ticker in holographic 3DTV or 3-D movies using N-LUT method is proposed. The proposed method is largely consisted of five steps: construction of the LUT for each character, extraction of characters in news ticker, generation and shift of the CGH pattern for news ticker using the LUT, composition of hologram pattern for 3-D video and news ticker and reconstruct the holographic 3D video with news ticker. From some simulation results confirmed the feasibility of the proposed method in fast generation of CGH patterns for holographic news ticker.

  • We prepared the chalcogenide As$\_$40/Ge$\_$10/Se$\_$15/S$\_$35/, Se$\_$75/Ge$\_$25/ thin film. Holographic grating was formed by the He-Ne laser( λ =633 nm). Annealing at 100$^{\circ}C$ and 200$^{\circ}C$ has been used to change the optical property of chalcogenide thin films for holographic grating formation. As the results, large variation of the optical property was generated at the As$\_$40/Ge$\_$10/Se$\_$15/S$\_$35/ chalcogenide film. Diffraction efficiency of the As$\_$40/Ge$\_$10/Se$\_$15/S$\_$35/ film has been enhanced about three times

  • The present study investigated the swimming pattern and appendage postures of a copepod species, Calanus sinicus, which prevails in the south-east sea of the Korean peninsula, by employing a digital holographic particle tracking velocimetry(PTV) technique. The results showed that the copepod Calanus sinicus had various swimming patterns such as hover, hop, sink, cruise, and downward cruise. Most frequent pattern was the 'hop and sink'. The average swimming speeds ranged from 1.1 to 45.7 body-lengths/s, and the corresponding flow Reynolds number ranged from $10^0$ to $10^2$.

  • We propose a speckle reduction technique in electronic holographic display systems, where digital micro-mirror array devices are used as spatial light modulators. By adopting a programmable filtration in a general 4-f optic configuration, it is shown that the signal spectrum components in the frequency domain of a viewing-window-based holographic display system can be selectively filtered. Compared to the widely utilized single-sideband filtration techniques in electronic holographic display systems, our proposed programmable filtration can be utilized to effectively reduce the speckles in the reconstruction of point-cloud-based computer-generated holograms. Experimental results are presented to verify our proposed concept.

  • This paper proposes dynamic viewing-zone switching for a binocular holographic three-dimensional display with low interpupil crosstalk and an extended eye-motion box. The optimal pupil geometry for reducing interpupil crosstalk is designed. It is shown that the eye-motion box can be extended by exploiting signal replication in the higher-order viewing zone. Design principles and numerical simulations for verification of the binocular holographic head-up display are presented.
