Design of Self-Starting Hybrid Axial Flux Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor Connected Directly to Line

  • In view of the current state of the reserves of electric energy generated resources and the share of electric motors in electricity consumption, many researches and studies related to efficiency in electric motors are being made. The presented work is related to the Axial Flux Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (AF-PMSM), which has recently undergone significant work based on the development of magnet and motor technology. In this study, a novel AF-PMSM was designed analytically through Finite Element Method (FEM) which can be started by connecting to a line such as an asynchronous motor in a transient state and can operate with high efficiency and power factor after synchronization in steady state without the need for an expensive motor drive. According to the obtained FEM results, a design with an efficiency class of IE4 of 5.5 kW shaft power, a 4 poles motor was obtained. As a result, economic calculations indicate that the extra cost of the designed Line start AF-PMSM with respect to the asynchronous motor is rapidly compensated by energy saving due to a more efficient operation, especially constant speed operations. As a result of the analysis obtained, the targeted values are reached. For induction motors and radial flux permanent magnet synchronous motors, a good alternative motor that can operate with high efficiency and power factor has been obtained.

  • This paper presents test results for the speed control system of PMSM (Permanent Magnet Sychronous Motor). The PMSM has higher efficiency and torque per volume than other motors because PMSM use permanent magnet of high energy density instead of field winding. In this paper, current and speed control of PMSM using DSP was accomplished.

표면부착형 / 매입형 영구자석 동기 전동기의 비교 분석 (Comparative Analysis of Surface-mounted and Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor)

  • In this paper, we present a comparative analysis of surface-mounted permanent magnet synchronous motors (SPMSM) and interior permanent magnet synchronous motors (IPMSM). First, we use 2D finite element analysis (FEA) to analyze models satisfying the same rated conditions according to the torque-speed curve characteristics, which are determined from the operating conditions. Next, we manufacture an SPMSM and IPMSM having good performances from an electromagnetic perspective based on analysis results, namely the cogging torque, torque ripple, and efficiency. We analyze both of the manufactured machines when they are connected back-to-back and when they are used as a motor and a generator, respectively. The motor is driven by a commercial inverter and the generator is connected to a three-phase resistance load bank. Finally, based on experimental results, which include the total harmonic distortion (THD) of the back electro-motive force (EMF), cogging torque, efficiency, and mass, we determine the motor that is most suitable under requirements.

  • 본 논문에서는 영구자석 동기전동기(PMSM)를 위한 풀 퍼지 로직을 기반으로 한 벡터제어를 제안한다. 퍼지 로직 제어기(FLC)를 기반으로 한 PMSM 드라이버의 성능은 부하, 속도 지령의 스텝 변화와 같은 여러 가지의 조건에서 PI제어기와 비교, 연구되었다. 실험 및 시뮬레이션에서 퍼지 로직 제어기는 속도 제어기 및 전류 제어기에 적용하였다. 고성능 드라이버 시스템에 기존의 PI제어기를 대신할 수 있음을 실험결과에 보였다.

Torque Predictive Control for Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor Drives Using Indirect Matrix Converter

  • This paper presents an improved torque predictive control (TPC) for permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) using an indirect matrix converter (IMC). The IMC has characteristics such as a high power density and sinusoidal waveforms of the input-output currents. Additionally, this configuration does not have any DC-link capacitors. Due to these advantages of the IMC, it is used in various application field such as electric vehicles and railway cars. Recently, research on various torque control methods for PMSM drives using an IMC is being actively pursued. In this paper, an improved TPC method for PMSM drives using an IMC is proposed. In the improved TPC method, the magnitudes of the voltage vectors applied to control the torque and flux of the PMSM are adjusted depending on the PMSM torque control such as the steady state and transient response. Therefore, it is able to reduce the ripples of the output current and torque in the low-speed and high-speed load ranges. Additionally, the improved TPC can improve the dynamic torque response when compared with the conventional TPC. The effectiveness of the improved TPC method is verified by experimental results.

  • Brushless do motors have been replacing brush type motors in machine tool and robotics applications over the last number of years This Paper deals with the design and application of the slot-less permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). The slot-less PMSM eliminates rotational cogging torque due to permanent magnet preferred positions decreases core loss and thus increases efficiency, provides excellent torque-to-volume and power-to-volume ratios, and has a linear current versus torque relation. The PMSM with slot-less stator is designed and manufactured, which will be used for high speed and high efficiency application such a medical instruments.

  • 영구자석 동기 전동기는 출력 밀도가 높고 효율이 높다는 장점 때문에 적용 범위가 넓어지고 있다. 자동차나 로봇과 같은 고전력밀도, 고성능 전동기 구동 시스템뿐만 아니라 세탁기, 에어컨, 냉장고와 같은 비용 절감이 매우 중요한 시스템에도 영구자석 동기 전동기가 사용되고 있다. 비용 절감을 위해 회전자 위치 센서를 제거하는 센서리스 제어가 필요한데, 일반적으로 센서리스 제어는 전동기를 기동하는 조건에서는 사용하기 어렵다. 따라서 초기 기동에서는 전류 벡터를 임의의 속도로 회전시키는 I-F 속도 제어를 사용하고, 특정 속도 이상이 되면 센서리스 속도 제어로 절환해야 한다. I-F 속도 제어와 센서리스 속도 제어에서의 속도 제어 성능도 중요하지만 두 제어 기법이 절환되는 과도 상태에서도 속도 제어 성능을 유지해야 한다. 본 논문에서는 영구자석 동기 전동기의 센서리스 속도 제어를 위해 I-F 속도 제어에서 센서리스 속도 제어로의 절환 기법을 제안한다. 제안된 기법의 성능을 확인하기 위해 세탁기 구동 시스템에서 실험을 수행하였다.

  • It is important to know exact values of Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors(IPMSM)' parameters such as stator resistance and inductance in order to have their high performance. This paper proposes a novel motor parameter(stator resistance, d&q axis inductance) estimation algorithm for IPMSM. The proposed estimation method utilizes back-EMF equations and model reference adaptive system(MRAS). The algorithm using back-EMF estimates d and q axis inductances in the constant torque region, and the stator resistance is estimated by using MRAS with the estimated inductance regardless of speed regions. The validity of the proposed algorithm is verified by simulations and experiments.

  • Recently, Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor(IPMSM) is widely used in the industry applications such as power train for hybrid vehicles and compressor motors of air-conditioner due to its high power density and wide speed range. In designing motors, pole slot combination should be chosen properly according to the use of the motor and driving method in the initial design stage, accordingly there have been many researches about pole slot combination. As a part of the studies, this paper presents a comparison of characteristics of concentrated winding IPMSM, such as back-emf, Total Harmonic Distortion(THD) and core losses for each pole slot combination. By comparing the characteristics of each model, this paper can be a guide or reference in determining pole slot combination in the initial design stage.

  • In high speed applications, the slotless permanent magnet(PM) motors appear an attractive solution, being almost insensitive to magneto-motive force harmonics and to pulse width modulation(PWM) current ripple and exhibiting lower stator iron losses and rotor losses (significant with square wave current control). So, this paper deals with methods for design of permanent magnet synchronous motor/generator.
