Thermal conductivity characteristics of commercial heat exchange fluids applying diamond nano-powder (다이아몬드 나노분말을 적용한 상용 열교환 유체의 열전도도 특성)

  • Nanofluids, suspending nano-particles of various materials, have a good heat transfer characteristics compared with pure base fluids. For the reason, nanofluids have been considered as one of the measure to improve energy efficiency, and studied to apply on a working fluid of a high performance heat exchanger. This study tested thermal conductivities of nanofluids applying diamond nano-powder on DI water, ethylene glycol, and ethyl alcohol. Nanofluids are fabricated by matrix synthetic method, and the volume percent of diamond nano-powder contained in the base fluid are 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, and 1vol%. As a result, thermal conductivities are enhanced with applying diamond nano-power. Especially, the conductivity is highly increased up to 23% at 1vol% nanofluid applying diamond nano-powder on DI water.

A Study on the Performance of Pipe Scale Cleaner using Natural Organic Acid (천연 유기산을 이용한 배관 스케일 세정제 성능에 관한 연구)

  • Scales generated inside pipes cause negative effects on heat transfer performance, pressure loss and flow rate due to increased thermal resistance and reduced flow cross-sectional area. If these scales are not prevented or eliminated, thermal-fluid performance of the facilities can be deteriorated, or in extreme cases, accidents such as explosion due to overheating can occur. There are two ways to remove the scales, physically and chemically. Removing the scales physically needs specific machines which are expensive, and removing them chemically may provoke corrosion or shorten the age of the facilities. In this study, an eco-friendly pipe scale cleaner using natural organic acid is developed by applying the concept of a limestone cave generation. The manufactured scale cleaner is applied to remove the scales in industrial, water heating and urinal pipes. The results show that this cleaner removes scales more effectively and safely compared to existing scale treatments. Scale removal efficiencies of this work is 1.2~10.7 times for industrial pipes and 1.8~15.5 times for boiler water heating pipes higher than those of conventional cleaners.

  • As the application fields of sensor nodes are getting diverse these days, it is required to have a way of collecting various data that is suitable for these application fields. In the case that the real-time surveillance over the data is unnecessary, present data collecting methods, which collect and transfer the data directly, can cause a waste of energy and data loss, A new method that store the collected data in a local storage and acquire them by query later on is required for nonreal-time applications. NAND flash has energy efficiency and large capacity so it is suitable for sensor nodes, Sensor nodes support 4-10 KBytes small sized memory and it is hard to build an effective file system since NAND Flash doesn't support overwriting NAND flash. This paper discusses an implementation of NAND Flash file system in sensor node environments. The file system makes long-term data collecting possible by reducing transmission cost. It is expected that this file system will play a central role in sensor network environments as it can be applied to various fields which call for long term data collecting.

Vertically Half Disc-Loaded Ultrawideband Monopole Antenna (VHDMA) with Horizontally Top-Loaded Small Disc (수평 원형 디스크가 로딩된 반원 디스크 초광대역 모노폴 안테나)

  • In this Paper, a new antenna(VHMDA) characteristics of half-circular/elliptical disc-loaded planar antennas with horizontally top-loaded small disc is studied by simulation and measurements with additional resonant structure. The transfer function characteristics of Gaussian pulse from the designed UWB transmitter antenna has been investigated. The radiation pattern of the proposed antenna in azimuth is nearly omni-directional response, which is usulally required in conventional monopole antenna. In addition to that, the simulation and measured results show that the return loss characteristics of VHDMA covers considerably large bandwidth with small area. From the measured results of the circular and half-circular disc-loaded monopole antennas with small disc mounted on the top, it is found that the half disc-loaded monopole antenna with additional structure can be comparable to the circular disc-loaded monopole antenna in respect o( size and electrical performances. Surface wave and dielectric losses often caused by the printed antenna using high dielectric constant does not occur in metallic planar antenna with good impedance matching and without lossy matching unit. This structure implies that the performance of return loss is directly related with the radiation efficiency.

  • For a stable electric power supply in the space, nuclear batteries have been used as the main power source in a spacecraft owing to their long lifetime and high reliability. In accordance with the plan for lunar mission in Korea, nuclear batteries will supply electricity to the rover that needs to be developed. According to the information about the estimated payload, Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute started with the conceptual design based on the previous studies in USA and Russia. Because a nuclear battery converts the decay heat of the radioisotope into electricity, thermal design, radiation shield, and shock protection need to be considered. In this study, two types of nuclear batteries, radial type and axial type, were designed according to the alignment of the thermoelectric module. Heat transfer analyses were performed to compare their thermoelectric efficiency, and test mockups were fabricated to evaluate their performances.

An Opened EDI Document Management System for Electronic Commerces (전자상거래를 위한 개방형 EDI문서 관리 시스템)

  • EDI is being considered as a new way for exchange business data in the form of electronic document, aiming the paperless transaction in business-to-business commerce. However, only a few enterprises select and practically use EDI accepts the closed and complicated method based on exclusive protocol for electronic document exchange. There, second, is insufficient regulation and system that support it. Last, the cost for operating is too high. In this paper, Open EDI Document Information Management System (OEIMS) was designed for solving the problem that mentioned above. We represented exchange document in code from as XML DTD. OEIMS that makers feasible to transfer their document through the web with low cost and, manage and search the information more efficiently and effectively using object-oriented database. We suggest OEIMS that provide efficiency to reposit and manage a system by modulized design of structural feature from EDI unlike other systems.

Investigation of the Effect of Solution Acidity and Organic Additives on the Electrodeposition of Trivalent Chromium Ions (3가크롬 이온의 전착 반응에 용액 산도 및 유기물 첨가제가 미치는 영향 연구)

  • The effect of solution acidity and organic additives, polyethylene glycol (PEG), on the trivalent chromium electroplating was systematically investigated in the view point of electroreduction of trivalent chromium ions and solution stability. It was found that solution acidity controlled at pH 2.5 showed the widest current range for bright electrodeposits in the presence of PEG additives, which reduced the local current intensification at high current densities. Through complex interaction between PEG additives and hydrogen ion, that is, solution acidity, electrode potential was moved in the negative direction in the bulk solution, while it shifted in the positive when electric potential was scanned. In conjunction with electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance (EQCM), it was found that PEG additives had a role in promoting the electron transfer to trivalent chromium ion complexes in bulk solution and their adsorption at the electrode surface as well as interfering with hydrogen ion reduction process below pH 2.5. The PEG additives developed the nodular morphology during electroreduction of trivalent chromium ions with the increase of solution acidity and enhanced its current efficiency by maintaining the consumption of complexant, formic acid, at low speed.

A Mechanism to Support Real-Time Internet Services over the ATM Network (ATM 망을 통한 실시간 인터넷 서비스 지원 메커니즘)

  • In this paper, we propose MSS(Multicast Synchronization Server) and QCS(QoS Conversion Server) models that can support IP multicast and QoS(Quality of Service) over the ATM network more efficiently. In the MSS model, it is possible to establish shortcut VCs(Virtual Circuits) among all hosts in the ATM network and to transfer multicast data at high speed. Also the MSS model is more scalable, because the number of inter-cluster VCs needed in the MSS model is less than that of EARTH. In the QCS model, ATM switch is modified to support one QoS service and best effort service through the one point-to-multipoint VC at the same time so required network resources are reduced, and dedicated server is used for QoS conversion to accept heterogeneous receivers more efficiently. In this Paper, the proposed MSS model and QCS model have solved both efficiency problem and scalability problem. It is proved through the comparison of the VCs required in each model.

Effects of Pressure and Dissolved Oxygen Concentration on the Activated Sludge (압력 및 용존산소 농도가 활성슬러지에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of pressure and dissolved oxygen concentration on the activated slut비e and to determine the optimum depth of deep shaft process. Some results from this study were summarized as follows. 1. It is considered that low sludge product in the activated sludge system maintaining high dissolved oxygen concentration is attributed to the increase of endogeneous respiration rate caused by the increase of aerobic zone in the sludge floe. 2. The increase of dissolved oxygen concentration does not affect to the increase of organic removal efficiency greatly and therefore the limiting factor is the substrate transfer into the inner part of floe. 3. The yield coefficient, Y is decreased in proportion to the increase of oxygen concentration. In this study, Y values arre ranged from 0.70 to 0.41 according to the variation of dissolved oxygen concentration from 18.0mg/$\ell$ to 258 mg/$\ell$. 4. The optimum depth of deep shaft process should be determined within the limits of non-toxicity to the microorganism and it is about loom in this study.

  • The multi-band wireless local area network (WLAN) using 60 GHz band and the lower band (typically 2.4 GHz/5 GHz band) can support the very high data rate in short-distance communication using 60 GHz band and the long-distance communication using the lower band. For heightening the efficiency of multi-band WLAN, an band selection scheme is a necessity. In this paper, we propose an effective frequency band selection scheme for multi-band WLANs. By using computer simulation with NS-3, we show the performance of the proposed schemes when the stations suffer from the human blockage and the log-normal shadowing.
