Inconel 690 alloy has widely been used in power plant and high temperature facilities because it has high thermal resistance and toughness. But we have little design data about the creep behaviors of the alloy. Therefore, in this study, an apparatus has been designed and built for conducting creep tests under constant load conditions. A series of creep tests on Inconel 690 alloy have been performed to get the basic design data and life prediction of inconel products and we have gotten the following results. First, the stress exponents decrease as the test temperatures increase. Secondly, the creep activation energy gradually decreases as the stresses become bigger. thirdly, the constant of Larson-Miller Parameters on this alloy is estimated about 10. And last the fractographs at the creep rupture show both the ductile and the brittle fracture according to the creep conditions.
This paper is a fundamental study on the mechanical properties of the high performance concrete confined with metal lath, glass and carbon fiber laterally. According to the results, it shows that the compressive strength increases by 9%, 8% and 6% in metal lath carbon fiber and glass fiber in case of W/B 30% respectively. In case of W/B 30% and 40%, flecxural strength shows largely in order of carbon fiber, metal lath, glass fiber. In strain-stress curve with the kinds of material for lateral confinement, while brittleness failure occurs in plain concrete just after maximum load, it is improved in some degree in confined concrete due to increase of the strain by increase of toughness. But, elastic modulus shows the similar tendency between confined concrete and plain concrete. Length change ratio by drying shrinkage shows little a bit in order of carbon fiber, glass fiber and metal lath due to confinement.
The polypropylene(PP) fiber is poised as a low cost alternative for reinforcement in structural applications in comparison with other high performance fibers, such as the polyvinyl-alcohol(PVA), polyethylene, carbon and aramid fiber. The mechanical properties of the composite are strongly determined by the interfacial behavior of fiber and cementitious matrix. The crack bridging mechanism contribute to composite toughness from activation of the fiber-matrix interface where energy is dissipated through debonding of the interface and fiber pullout. In this study, therefore, the pullout behavior of PP fibers is investigated. Experimental work includes the investigation of the interfacial properties, and the composite property. The quantification of interfacial properties, the frictional bond is achieved through single fiber pullout test. A study on the effect of inclination angle on fiber pullout behavior is also conducted.
Lightweight polymer concrete with steel fiber can be used for thin panel, high building and large span structures due to its may advantages such as its durability, low weight, control of crack propagation, high strength and toughness. This study experimented about steel fiber reinforcement of lightweight polymer concrete using synthetic lightweight aggregate. The test result shows that the maximum strain and elastic modulus are in the range of $0.012{\sim}0.014\;and\;50.2{\times}10^3{\sim}51.0{\times}10^3kgf/cm^2$, respectively. The flexural load-deflection curves after maximum load are shown in smoothly with increase of steel fiber content
Fibers are increasingly being used for the reinforcement of cementitious matrix to enhance the toughness and energy absorption capacity and to reduce the cracking sensitivity of the matrix. In the past decade, high performance fiber reinforced cementitious composite(HPFRCC) have evolved with intensified research. HPFRCC for structural applications has been developed under the performance driven design approach. It is the aim of this study to obtain development of hybrid-HPFRCC using polypropylene fibers and polyethylene fibers. It was targeted the requirement of economical mixing and application to structure member.
The lower toughness or brittle materials for mechanical test lead to the additional requirement that applied displacements be controlled with high resolution. Biaxial tension and shear tester using stepper motor with harmonic driver is shown. The device had to be high resolution so that the crack initiation process of slow extension and steady growth could be examined, Grip plates were connected to a linear bearing and actuator. The actuators consisted of stepper motors with harmonic driver connected to pre-loaded ball screw and nut assemblies. The encoders and motor controllers were connected to a personal computer so that arbitrary displacements histories could he prescribed in normal and tangential directions. The linear bearings were used to react loads perpendicular to their axes while allowing low friction, parallel movement of the attached grips. Load cells measured the reactions normal and tangential. the loads measured the reactions were recorded by the computer.
The interests on GaAs solar cell grown on Ge substrates as an alternative of GaAs substrate arises from its very close lattice parameters, very small difference in thermal expansion coefficients, and much higher fracture toughness between GaAs and Ge. In addition, for many space power application, it would be a most attractive solar cell with high radiation resistance of GaAs and high reliability for the reverse current damage of Ge, and expecting the theoretical efficiency limit of the tandem GaAs/Ge solar cell is 34% under 1 Sun, AM 0, and 28$^{\circ}C$ condition. In this report, we have reviewed the performance and the manufacturing technics of GaAs/Ge solar cell, and current status of research in GaAs/Ge solar cell.

Recent progress in manufacture of hot and cold rolled steel strip products and their applications were reviewed. The main trend in the technological development has been to meet the customers' requests for quality improvement and cost reduction. The weight reduction to reduce the fuel consumption is the main issue in the automotive industry and, therefore, various steels have been developed to improve formability as well as strength. The steels include super-EDDQ steels, bainitic steels, TRIP steels, etc. In the oil industry, efforts have been focused to improve strength together with either low temperature toughness or HIC/SSCC resistance. The packaging industry is also a highly competitive market, and steel and canmaking companies have worked cooperatively to develop cost-effective canmaking processes as well as high performance steels. This type of cooperation has also been found important in other industries such as the appliance and electronic industries for the benefits of both steelmakers and customers.
We evaluated the sensory characteristics of Gangjung base obtained from various manufacturers, using a sensory descriptive analysis. Significant differences were observed for all sensory attributes of Gangjung samples with the exception of 'toothpacking'. Sample A showed high intensities for 'external color', 'external roughness', 'sweetness', 'toasted soybean powder flavor', 'crispness', 'fracturability', 'oiliness', and 'loose particles,' whereas it had low intensities for 'rice flour flavor', 'hardness', and 'toughness' compared to those of other samples. Sample B had more 'sourness', 'butyric acid flavor', 'fermented rice flavor', and 'degree of melting' but lower 'air cell size', 'fracturability', and 'flake roughness'. Sample C showed high intensities for 'expansion', 'hardness', 'crispness', and 'flake roughness', whereas sample D showed low intensities for 'expansion' and 'sourness'. These results indicate that Gangjung base samples are markedly different depending on the manufacturer.
High strength cement composites (W/C=0.1) were prepared by using various blending materials such as SiC whisker and white carbon (hydrated silica: SiO2·nH2O). The effect of various blending materials on the microstructure and strength of the hardened cement paste were investigated in the view of fracture mechanics. The plain specimen showed 101 MPa of flexural strength, 81 GPa of Young's modulus and 1.32 MPam1/2 of fracture toughness. When the blending materials were added to the composites, their values were enhanced to about 110∼138 MPa, 95∼146 GPa and 1.32∼1.87MPam1/2 respectively. The improvement of the mechanical strength for the hardened cement paste may be due to the removal of macropores, the reduction of total porosity, pozzolanic reaction and the increase of various fracture toughening effect.
