PURPOSES : It is necessary to prevent premature failure of concrete pavements caused by durability problems. The purpose of this study was to find factors affecting the durability of concrete pavements, and suggest improvement methods for existing concrete mix design. METHODS : Factors influencing durability were derived from laboratory test data for common field failure conditions and main properties of concrete cores taken from the field. The improvement of concrete properties was investigated by evaluating the performance of existing and proposed mix proportion designs and curing methods. RESULTS : The compressive strength and the absorbing performance of the low Blaine cement and the high-strength mixture were better than those of the Type I cement. Wet curing showed better compressive strength, elastic modulus, coefficient of thermal expansion, and absorption performance than air curing or compound curing. As a result of comparing concrete cores collected in the field, the sections with good durability showed good performance in terms of resistance to chloride ion penetration, absorption, and initial absorption rate. CONCLUSIONS : The absorption performance was considered as a possible foactor affecting durability of cement concrete pavements as a result of field core tests. In order to improve the durability of the pavement concrete, it is necessary to improve the existing mixtures and curing methods.

High performance concrete with low water-to-cement ratio has been widely used with increased demand of high rising buildings and huge scaled structures. Additionally, for high performance concrete, various SCMs are replaced to improve its performance from fresh state to hardened state. With the drawback of increased viscosity of the concrete mixture for high performance concrete, low-viscosity typed high range water reducer is the relatively new admixture. Therefore, as a goal of the research, under using various SCMs with wide range of content, the performance of low-viscosity typed high range water reducer was evaluated. Especially, in this research, the influence of low-viscosity typed high range water reducer on rheological properties including plastic viscosity and yield stress were assessed. As a result of the research, it is expected to provide a fundamental information of low -viscosity typed high ranged water reducer on high performance concrete with various conditions of SCMs.
İzmir Bay reserves high amount of residual alluvial deposits generated by Meles River at its stream mouth. These carried sediments with high water content and low bearing capacity are unsuitable in terms of engineering purposes. In-situ soil stabilization with deep soil mixing method is considered to improve properties of soil in this location. This method is widely used especially over Scandinavia, Japan and North America. Basically, the method covers mixing appropriate binder into the soil to improve soil profile according to the engineering needs. For this purpose, soil samples were initially provided from the site, classification tests were performed and optimum ratios of lime and cement binders were determined. Following, specimens representing the in-situ soil conditions were prepared and cured to be able to determine their engineering properties. Unconfined compression tests and vane shear tests were applied to evaluate the stabilization performance of binders on samples with different curing periods. Scanning electron microscope was used to observe time-dependent bonding progress of binders in order to validate the results. Utilization of 4% lime and 4% cement mixture for the long-term performance and 8% lime and 8% cement mixture for short term performance were suggested for the stabilization of Meles Delta soils. Development of CSH and CAH in a gel form as well as CSH crystals were clearly observed on SEM images of treated specimens.
Impact experiments have been carried out on concrete slabs. The first group was traditionally manufactured, densely reinforced concrete targets, and the next were ordinary Portland and calcium aluminate cement based HPSFRC (High performance steel fiber reinforced concrete) and SIFCON (Slurry infiltrated concrete) targets. All specimens were hit by anti-armor tungsten projectiles at a muzzle velocity of over 4 Mach causing destructive perforation. In Part I of this article, production and experimental procedures are described. The first group of specimens were ordinary CEM I 42.5 R cement based targets including only dense reinforcement. In the second and third groups, specimens were produced using CEM I 42.5 R cement and Calcium Aluminate Cement (CAC40) with ordinary reinforcement and steel fibers 2 percent in volume. In the fourth group, SIFCON specimens including 12 percent of steel fibers without reinforcement were tested. A high-speed camera was used to capture impact and residual velocities of the projectile. Sample tests were performed to obtain mechanical properties of the materials. In the companion Part II of this study, numerical investigations and simulations performed will be presented. Few studies exist that examine high-velocity impact effects on CAC40 based HPSFRC targets, so this investigation gives an insight for comparison of their behavior with Portland cement based and SIFCON specimens.

High Energy Milling (HEM) is applied for the grinding of cement and this can lead to substantial refinement $(<2{\mu}m)$ and mechanically activation of the powder particles. The present paper reviews the preliminary studies, explains the novel technique and suggests the route into commercial application. Particular attention is paid to wear results with an applied $Si_3N_4-grinding$ unit where no substantial wear was found after 4000 h of operation.

This study explored physical properties of a hardened cement and a concrete specimen using a high performance cement type solidification consisting of a weathered granite soil and a yellow soil mainly. Also the development of high performance cement type solidification was purposed for an intensity improvement and a long-term durability. As the experimental results, a mortar used by the weathered granite soil shows positive result, however using the yellow soil as a mortar Shows less positive result at the compressive strength. Also the dynamic modulus of elasticity measurement result, the concrete specimens used by the weathered granite and the yellow soil reached above 90%, so it seems to have the durability of freezing and thawing.
This paper focuses on the application of Fuller's ideal gradation curve to theoretically design blended ratio of all solid materials of high performance concrete (HPC), with the aid of error function, and then to study the effect of rice husk ash (RHA) on the performance of HPC. The residual RHA, generated when burning rice husk pellets at temperatures varying from 600 to $800^{\circ}C$, was collected at steam boilers in Vietnam. The properties of fresh and hardened concrete are reviewed. It is possible to obtain the RHA concrete with comparable or better properties than those of the specimen without RHA with lower cement consumption. High flowing concrete designed by the proposed method was obtained without bleeding or segregation. The application of the proposed method for HPC can save over 50% of the consumption of cement and limit the use of water. Its strength efficiency of cement in HPC is 1.4-1.9 times higher than that of the traditional method. Local standards of durability were satisfied at the age of 91 days both by concrete resistivity and ultrasonic pulse velocity.

In modern society, population overcrowding and concentration of facilities are happened because of the concentration on to city. So this phenomenon demands improvement of material's performance, technical development of structure analysis and design and improvement of constructing ability .High strength concrete has some merits. High strengthening makes the cross section reduced, and that cause decrease of structure weight. And using high durable and superplasticizer promote liquidity, thus high quality concrete can be produced. Because of these advantages, this study is for showing validity of using it by compression/tensile strength experiment. As this experiment's result, when concrete become stronger, interface intensity coefficient between cement and aggregate is different and they don't adhere to each other. So there is brittle failure. Fragility factor also steadily increase with strong concrete, it tells high strength concrete has problem. Therefore the sources used in high strength concrete like cement and aggregate must have great quality. So the source's performance must be supervised well because their quality decides performance criteria.
This study experimented to evaluate the environment friendly high performance ternary cement concrete deck overlay pavement using mineral admixture such as fly ash and ground granulated blast-furnace slag. It was measured to find best binder mixing according to replacement rate of mineral admixture with compressive strength and flexural strength. After finding best binder, it is also experimented to evaluate durability on chloride penetration resistance, freezing- thawing resistance, scaling resistance of deicing chemicals, abrasion resistance, alkali-silica reactivity test and bonded environment friendly high performance ternary cement concrete deck overlay pavement experimented to evaluate bonded old deck and new concrete overlay pavement using special polymer cement mortar. In additions, bonded environment friendly high performance ternary cement concrete deck overlay pavement by experimental construction was evaluated at interchange bridge of North Yeoju. Result, examination was indicated better binding with binder replacement of cement 70%, ground granulated blast-furnace slag 15% and fly ash 15%. And special polymer cement mortar used in old deck and new overlay concrete was indicated better bonding both laboratory and construction.
