소수성 텍스쳐 표면에 충돌한 단일 액적의 퍼짐 및 고착 특성 (Spreading and Deposition Characteristics of a Water Droplet Impacting on Hydrophobic Textured Surfaces)

  • The present study conducts experimental investigation on spreading and deposition characteristics of a $4.3{\mu}l$ de-ionized (DI) water droplet impacting upon aluminum (Al 6061) flat and textured surfaces. The micro-textured surface consisted the micro-hole arrays (hole diameter: $125{\mu}m$, hole depth: $125{\mu}m$) fabricated by the conventional micro-computer numerical control (${\mu}$-CNC) milling machine process. We examined the surface effect of texture area fraction ${\varphi}_s$ ranging from 0 to 0.57 and impact velocity of droplet ranging from 0.40 m/s to 1.45 m/s on spreading and deposition characteristics from captured images. We used a high-speed camera to capture sequential images for investigate spreading characteristics and the image sensor to capture image of final equilibrium deposition droplet for analyze spreading diameter and contact angle. We found that the deposition droplet on textured surfaces have different wetting states. When the impact velocity is low, the non-wetting state partially exists, whereas over 0.64 m/s of impact velocity, totally wetting state is more prominent due to the increase kinetic energy of impinging droplet.

HEMM에 의한 복합분말의 제조와 급속소결에 의해 제조된 Ti-42wt%Nb/HAp 생체용 복합재료의 생체적합성 및 기계적 특성 연구

  • Ti와 Ti-6%Al-4%V합금은 내 부식성 및 생체 적합성이 매우 우수하기 때문에 현재 생체재료로써 널리 사용되고 있다. 하지만 Ti-6%Al-4V합금에 포함된 Al과 V이 신체에 좋지 않은 영향을 줄 수 있다는 연구 결과가 보고되면서 새로운 생체재료의 연구가 활발히 진행되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 생체에 무해한 Ti-Nb와 hydroxyapatite(HAp)를 복합 첨가하여 고에너지볼밀링(high-energy mechanical milling, HEMM)으로 나노 합금분말을 제조 후 급속소결에 의하여 Ti-Nb/HAp 생체재료를 제조 하였다. 제조한 Ti-Nb/HAp 생체용 복합재료에서 HAp 첨가량과 분말의 밀링, 믹싱에 따른 조직 변화와 소결체의 생체적합성의 변화 및 기계적 특성의 변화를 분석하였다. 이때 Ti-42%Nb에 HAp의 첨가량을 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%로 변화를 주었고, 밀링은 고에너지볼밀링기를 이용하여 0~8시간 동안 실시하였다. 그 결과 밀링 시간이 증가할수록 합금 분말의 크기가 미세해졌으며, 특히 8시간 밀링시 분말의 크기가 나노 크기로 감소하여 기계적 특성(경도 및 강도)이 우수해지는 것을 알 수 있었다.

산화물 수소환원에 의한 W-Ni-Fe 나노복합분말의 합성과 특성 (Synthesis and Characteristics of W-Ni-Fe Nanocomposite Powder by Hydrogen Reduction of Oxides)

  • The synthesis and characteristics of W-Ni-Fe nanocomposite powder by hydrogen reduction of ball milled W-Ni-Fe oxide mixture were investigated. The ball milled oxide mixture was prepared by high energy attrition milling of W blue powder, NiO and $Fe_2O_3$ for 1 h. The structure of the oxide mixture was characteristic of nano porous agglomerate composite powder consisting of nanoscale particles and pores which act as effective removal path of water vapor during hydrogen reduction process. The reduction experiment showed that the reduction reaction starts from NiO, followed by $Fe_2O_3$ and finally W oxide. It was also found that during the reduction process rapid alloying of Ni-Fe yielded the formation of $\gamma$-Ni-Fe. After reduction at 80$0^{\circ}C$ for 1 h, the nano-composite powder of W-4.57Ni-2.34Fe comprising W and $\gamma$-Ni-Fe phases was produced, of which grain size was35nm for W and 87 nm for $\gamma$-Ni-Fe, respectively. Sinterability of the W heavy alloy nanopowder showing full density and sound microstructure under the condition of 147$0^{\circ}C$/20 min is thought to be suitable for raw material for powder injection molding of tungsten heavy alloy.

기계적으로 합성한 분말로부터 급속 소결에 의한 나노 구조의 Co-Al2O3 복합재료 제조 (Fabrication of Nanocrystalline Co-Al2O3 from Mechanically Synthesized Powders by Rapid Sintering)

  • Nano-sized Co and $Al_2O_3$ powders were successfully synthesized from $3/4Co_3O_4$ and 2Al by high-energy ball milling. A dense nanocrystalline $2.25Co-Al_2O_3$ composite was consolidated from mechanically synthesized powders by the pulsed current activated sintering (PCAS) method within 2 min. Consolidation was accomplished under the combined effects of a pulsed current and mechanical pressure. A dense $2.25Co-Al_2O_3$ with relative density of up to 95% was produced under simultaneous application of a 80 MPa pressure and a pulsed current of 2800 A. The fracture toughness and hardness of the $2.25Co-Al_2O_3$ composite were $8MPa{\cdot}m^{1/2}$, $870kg/mm^2$, respectively.

  • Nanopowders of TiCo were synthesized from Ti and Co by high energy ball milling. Highly dense nanostructured TiCo compounds were consolidated at low temperature by pulsed current activated sintering within 3 minutes from the mechanical synthesis of the powders (TiCo) and horizontal milled Ti+Co powders under 100 Mpa pressure. This process allows very quick densification to near theoretical density and prohibits grain growth in nanostructured materials. The grain sizes of the TiCo compounds were calculated. Finally, the average hardness values of the nanostructured TiCo compounds were investigated.

  • Nanopowder of FeAl and $Al_2O_3$ was synthesized from FeO and Al powders by high energy ball milling. Using the pulsed current activated sintering method, the nanocystalline $Al_2O_3$ reinforced FeAl composite was consolidated within two minutes from mechanically synthesized powders. The advantage of this process is that it allows very quick densification to near theoretical density and prohibits grain growth in nanostuctured materials. The grain size, sintering behavior and hardness of sintered $FeAl-Al_2O_3$ composite were investigated.

  • In this study, the fabrication of ultra fine grained Mo bulk was conducted. $MoO_3$ nanopowders were prepared by a high energy ball-milling process and then reduced at the temperature of $800^{\circ}C$ without holding time in $H_2$ atmosphere. The particle size of Mo nanopowder was ~150 nm and grain size was ~40 nm. The two-step process was employed for the sintering of Mo nanopowder to obtain fine grain size. The densification over 90% could be obtained by the two-step sintering with a grain size of less than 660 nm. For higher density, modified two-step sintering was designed. 95% of theoretical density with the grain size of 730 nm was obtained by the modified two-step sintering.

  • Nanopowders of Mo, Ti and Si were made by high-energy ball milling. A dense nanostructured $(Ti,Mo)Si_2$ compound was sintered by the pulsed current activated combustion method within two minutes from mechanically activated powder of Mo, Ti and Si. A highly dense $(Ti,Mo)Si_2$ compound was produced under simultaneous application of 80 MPa pressure and a pulsed current. The mechanical properties and micorostructure were investigated. The hardness and fracture toughness of the $(Ti,Mo)Si_2$ were $1030kg/mm^2$ and $4.9MPa{\cdot}m^{1/2}$, respectively. The mechanical properties were higher than monolithic $TiSi_2$.

  • The effects of different types of process control agents (PCA) on the microstructure evolution of Ni-based oxide dispersion-strengthened superalloy have been investigated. Alloy synthesis was performed on elemental powders having a nominal composition of Ni-15Cr-4.5Al-4W-2.5Ti-2Mo-2Ta-0.15Zr-1.1Y2O3 in wt % using high energy ball milling for 5 h. The prepared powders are consolidated by spark plasma sintering at 1000℃. Results indicated that the powder ball-milled with ethanol as PCA showed large particle size, low carbon content and homogeneous distribution of elemental powders compared with the powder by stearic acid. The sintered alloy prepared by ethanol as PCA exhibited a homogeneous microstructure with fine precipitates at the grain boundaries. The microstructural characteristics have been discussed on the basis of function of the PCA.

CNT강화 알루미늄 나노복합재의 자동차용 부품 적용성 연구 (A Study on the Applicability of CNT/Aluminum Nanocomposites to Automotive Parts)

  • CNT(carbon nanotubes) 강화 알루미늄 나노복합재는 우수한 기계적 특성으로 자동차용 차세대 경량재료로 주목을 받고 있으나 소재 제조 과정에 있어 CNT의 균일 분산 확보가 어렵고 대량제조 공정 확립이 어려워 자동차 부품으로의 적용이 어렵다. 그러나 점차 CNT 생산이 대량화 되고 있고 복합재로서의 특성이 개선되고 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 CNT강화 알루미늄 나노복합재의 현 수준을 확인하고 자동차 부품 관점에서의 적용가능성을 검토하고자 하였다. 평가에 사용된 소재는 20L급 High energy milling기에서 알루미늄 분말과 CNT를 혼합한 후, 소결 및 압출하여 봉상(${\phi}80$)으로 제조되었다. 소재 관점에서 기계적 특성 및 열적 특성을 분석하였으며, 부품 적용성 관점에서는 현재 자동차 부품에 사용되는 소재와 그 소재가 사용되는 각 부품의 주요 요구 특성을 상대 비교하였다. 고강성과 성형성이 요구되는 부품에 사용되는 상용소재(A390) 및 SiC/Al 복합재와 성형성 비교평가를 진행하였으며, 탄성계수를 측정하였다. 피로 내구 및 경량화가 요구되는 메인베어링캡 양산소재와의 내구성 비교 평가를 실시하였다. 또한 고온 안정성이 요구되는 피스톤용 내열 소재와 열팽창계수 및 열화에 따른 강도저하를 비교 평가하였다. 구배가 큰 금형을 설계하여 단조 가공 후, 성형성(외관 crack 및 성형압 측정)을 비교하였으며, 내구성 평가를 위해 실제 부품인 H사(社) 소형 엔진블록의 메인베어링 캡을 적용하여 일축 단품 피로 시험을 진행하였다. 이를 통해 우수한 소재 특성을 확인하였고, 자동차 구조용 부품으로 적용이 가능함을 확인하였다.
