Purpose: The purpose of this study is to develop an effective simulation modeling formalism for autonomous control systems, such as unmanned aerial vehicles and unmanned surface vehicles. The proposed simulation modeling formalism can be used to evaluate the quality and effectiveness of autonomous control systems. Methods: The proposed simulation modeling formalism is developed by extending the classic DEVS (Discrete Event Systems Specifications) formalism. The main advantages of the classic DEVS formalism includes its rigorous formal definition as well as its support for the specification of discrete event models in a hierarchical and modular manner. Results: Although the classic DEVS formalism has been a popular modeling tool, it has limitations in describing an autonomous control system which needs to make decisions by its own. As a result, we proposed an extended DEVS formalism which enables the effective description of internal decisions according to its conditional variables. Conclusion: The extended DEVS formalism overcomes the limitations of the classic DEVS formalism, and it can be used for the effectiveness simulation of autonomous weapon systems.
We investigated the classification of learner groups for students' mathematical modeling competency and analyzed the characteristics in each profile group for each country and variable using PISA 2012 data from six countries. With a perspective on measuring sub-competency, we applied the latent profile analysis method to student achievement for mathematical modeling variables - Formulate, Employ, Interpret. The findings showed the presence of 4-6 profile groups, with the variables exhibiting high and low achievement within each profile group varying by country, and a hierarchical structure was observed in the profile group distribution in all countries, interestingly, the Formulate variable showed the largest difference between high-achieving and low-achieving profile groups. These results have significant implications. Comparison by country, variable, and profile group can provide valuable insights into understanding the various characteristics of students' mathematical modeling competency. The Formulate variable could serve as the most suitable predictor of a student's profile group and the score range of other variables. We suggest further studies to gain more detailed insights into mathematical modeling competency with different cultural contexts.

On the optimization design problem using surrogate model, it requires considerable number of sampling points to construct a surrogate model which retains the accuracy. As an alternative to reduce construction cost of the surrogate model, Variable-Fidelity Modeling(VFM) technique, where correct high fidelity model based on the low fidelity surrogate model is introduced. In this study, hierarchical kriging model for variable-fidelity surrogate modeling is used and an optimization framework with multi-objective genetic algorithm(MOGA) is presented. To prove the feasibility of this framework, airfoil design optimization process is performed for the transonic region. The parameters of PARSEC are used to design variables and the optimization process is performed in case of varying number of grid and varying fidelity. The results showed that pareto front of all variable-fidelity models are similar with its single-level of fidelity model and calculation time is considerably reduced. Based on computational results, it is shown that VFM is a more efficient way and has an accuracy as high as that single-level of fidelity model optimization.
The purpose of this study is to analyze student and university features affecting outcome in labor market after university graduates. For accomplish this, multi-level analysis modeling with HLM(Hierarchical Linear Modeling) was adopted. GOMS(Graduates Occupational Mobility Survey) 2013 data were used for this study, and we added the Information Service of Education data for university information. The result of analysis were as follows. (a) Factors affecting outcome in labor market after university graduate were both student and university features. Significant features were house income, gender, academic major, GPA, and satisfaction in view point of student level. In university level, there were significant variables likes foundation, location, education costs, school type, and satisfaction. (b) We found the different significant variables between student and school level in the participations on the university career program. Significant features were job-experience and job-exhibition in student level, but there were no significant after adding variable in school level. In the school level, there were significant in subjects related career and job, job-exhibition, and consulting.
As quick and secure mobility service is becoming a critical issue in the ubiquitous environment. Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) has done a lot of meaningful work in order to cope with the critical issues, which is a key technology of guaranteeing the legally and safely using of network resources, they has proposed Hierarchical Mobile IPv6 (HMIPv6) to complement for such problems as handover latency and signaling overhead in existing MIPv6. Most of the current research about HMIPv6 focuses on how to optimize the interactive processes between the HMIPv6 and AAA (Authentication, Authorization, Accounting) protocol. This paper describes a cost-effective hierarchical authentication scheme, which makes its focus on minimizing the authentication latency in AAA processing. In this scheme, a hierarchical AAA architecture is proposed, in which the AAA servers are deployed on the Mobility Anchor Point (MAP), the Root AAA server manages several Leaf AAA servers and the Brokers on behalf of the AAA server in home domain. The simulation results shows that the proposed scheme reduces the handoff and authentication latency evidently compared to the previous traditional authentication combination modeling.

In order to provide efficient retrieving results for user query on the web environment, the various searching algorithms have developed and considered user's preference and convenience. However, the searching algorithms are developed on the horizontal and non hierarchical web environment in general and could not apply to the complex hierarchical and functional web environments such like the enterprise network. In this paper, we purpose the multi-agent based web mining system which can provide the efficient mining results to the user on the special web environment. For doing this, we suggest the network model with the hierarchical web environment and model the multi agent based web mining system which has four corporation agents and fourteen process modules. Then, we explain the detailed functions of each agent considered the hierarchical environment according to the module. Especially, we purpose the new merging agent and improved ranking algorithm by using the graph theory.
Spatial models suitable for describing the evolving random fields in climate and environmental systems have been developed by many researchers. In general, rainfall in South Korea is highly variable in intensity and amount across space. This study characterizes the monthly and regional variation of rainfall fields using the spatial modeling. The main objective of this research is spatial prediction with the Bayesian hierarchical modeling (kriging) in order to further our understanding of water resources over space. We use the Bayesian approach in order to estimate the parameters and produce more reliable prediction. The Bayesian kriging also provides a promising solution for analyzing and predicting rainfall data.
Recently, object-oriented concepts and technology are on the leading edge of programming language and database systems research, and their usefulness in those contexts has been successfully demonstrated. The adoption of object-oriented concept to the design of model bases has several benefits. From the perspectives of object-oriented approach, models in a model base are viewed as object which encapsulate their states and behaviors. This paper focuses on the design of an object-oriented model base that handles various resources of DSS(data, knowledge, models, solvers) in a unified fashion. For the design of a model base, we adopted Object Modeling Techniques(OMT). An object model of OMT can be used for the conceptual design of an overall model base schema. The object model of OMT provides several advantages over the conventional approaches in model base design. The main advantage are model reuse, hierarchical model construction, model sharing, meta-modeling, and unified model object management.

When we want to find out the regulatory relationships between genes from gene expression data, dimensionality is one of the big problem. In general, the size of search space in modeling the regulatory relationships grows in O(n$^2$) while the number of genes is increasing. However, hopefully it can be reduced to O(kn) with selected k by applying divide and conquer heuristics which depend on some assumptions about genetic network. In this paper, we approach the modeling problem in divide-and-conquer manner. We applied clustering to make the problem into small sub-problems, then hierarchical model process is applied to those small sub-problems.

DEVSim++ is a C++ based, object-oriented modeling/simulation environment which realizes the hierarchical, modular DEVS formalism for discrete event systems specification. The paper describes a methodology for performance modeling and analysis of an ATM-based network system within the DEVSim++ environment. The methodology develops performance models for the system using the DEVS framework and implement the models in C++. Performance indices measured are the length of queues located at connection of the system and cell waiting times with respect to QoS grades for a network bandwidth of 155 Mbps.
