This study was evaluated the dietary affect of ceramics on laying performance, intestinal microflora population, NH$_3$ and VFA gas emission from excreta and fatty acids composition of egg yolk in laying hens. A total of 180 layer at 34 weeks of age were fed the experimental diets containing 0.0 % (Control), 0.4 % and 0.8 % of ceramics powder for 6 weeks. It is concluded that 0.4 % ceramics powder supplementation in the 34 to 40 weeks laying hens diet, improves the laying performance and ratio of egg yolk n-6/n-3 fatty acids contents and decreasing emission of NH$_3$ and VFA gas from excreta.
The effect of dietary lipid factors (plant and animal oil, cholesterol and ${\beta}$-sitosterol) on the liver, serum, and egg yolk cholesterol levels of the laying hen was studied. Single Comb White Leghorn laying hens, at 28 weeks of age, were fed two basal diets containing 8.0% soybean oil or 8.0% fish oil, with or without supplemental cholesterol (1.0%), ${\beta}$-sitosterol (2.0%) or combinations of both. Restricting caloric intake resulted in significantly (p<.05) decreased egg production and the total amount of cholesterol excreted via the egg was significantly (p<.05) different among treatment groups. Cholesterol supplementation to the two basal diets resulted in a significant elevation of liver, serum and egg yolk cholesterol levels. The addition of ${\beta}$-sitosterol lowered the cholesterol levels in liver and serum, while increased in the egg yolk (SO + ST, FO + ST). The anticholesterogenic effect of dietary ${\beta}$-sitosterol was not clearly exhibited in this study.
The study was undertaken to determine the effect of various levels of dietary magnesium on the metabolizability of magnesium in laying Tsaiya ducks and Leghorn hens. Twenty-five Tsaiya ducks and 25 Leghorn hens were raised in individual cages. The basal diet was mainly consisted of corn starch and isolated soybean protein. At the beginning of the experiments, birds were fed the basal diet added with 500 mg/kg Mg (1070 mg/kg in total by analysis) for 10 days in order to make the birds adapt to the new diet. Then, they were randomly divided into five treatments with five birds for each treatment and fed the experimental diets containing 690, 1070, 1690, 2150 or 2380 mg/kg Mg for 21 days and during the last five days excreta were collected. The experiment was repeated three times each at the age of 25, 31 and 36 weeks. The metabolizability of magnesium in the diet was determined by the indicator method. The metabolizabilities of magnesium for Tsaiya duck and Leghorn hen were 59.9% and 62.5%, respectively as the diet contained 690 mg/kg magnesium, and were significantly decreased (p<0.05) to 39.7 and 30.7%, respectively when the dietary magnesium content was increased to 2380 mg/kg.
Fowl adenovirus (FAdV) and chicken anemia virus (CAV) have gained much importance as an immunosuppressive and economically important emerging pathogen of poultry. This study was carried out to investigate the prevalence of FAdV and CAV infection in chickens. The groups were divided into Korean native chickens, broiler, layer hens and broiler breeder and set up groups according to age. As results, 12.5% of the native chicken, 2.5% of broiler and 6.7% of layer chicken were positive, respectively by PCR for FAdV. Serological test showed that 84.8%, 79.0%, 97.7% and 96.1% of chickens were positive for antibody to FAdV in native chickens, broiler, layer hens and broiler breeder. The prevalence of CAV infection were 20.0%, 7.5%, 16.7% and 10.0%, based on CAV gene detection by PCR. In serological test of CAV, 40.6%, 35.9%, 84.8% and 73.9% of chickens were positive in that groups.
About 6 to 8% of the eggs annually produced are broken or cracked between the hen and the consumer's carton. The majority of this breakage is due to interrelationships between egg shell quality and the many biological, environmental and managerial factors which have been individually identified as affecting breakage. Some of the factors associated with shell damage discussed in this review include age of hens, temperature ana humidity of the laying house, design of the cage systems and of the cage floors, type of material used to manufacture the cages frequency of daily egg collection in the laying house and, Probably most important, the frequency and quality of handling equipment maintenance. Age and genetic constitution of the hens, environmental temperature, and design and quality of equipment maintenance are the major factors that influence shell breakage. There is a curvilinear relationship between shell quality and shell breakage which explains why small changes in shell quality may be associated with large changes in the incidence of breakage. Published data indicate the incidence of breakage may range from as low as 1 to 2% to 35% or more for other egg producers.

This study was conducted to determine the effect of feeding betaine on egg production, lipid metabolism and osmoregulation in laying hens. Three hundred and sixty layers were fed corn-soy basal diet containing 16% CP, 2800 kcal/kg ME from 18 to weeks. Hens were provided with betaine 0, 300, 500 or 1200 ppm. Egg production, feed intake, egg weight and feed conversion were examined in every four weeks. Liver and egg betaine. serum cholesterol and neutal fat were measured at the mid experiment. Egg production was not statistically different among treatments from 18 to 26 weeks of age, but significantly increased for the rest of period in hens fed more than 600ppm betaine(P<0.05). Betaine added treatments showed a tendency to increase feed intake. Feed conversion tended to improve from 26 to 33 weeks old in betaine supplemental groups. Egg qualify was not influenced by dietary supplemental betaine. Betaine supplementation seemed to increase in liver betaine. but not in egg betaine. Serum total cholesterol, triacylglycerol, abdominal fat content and ileal osmolality were not different. However, liver fat content was prone to decrease in betaine supplemental groups. The result of this experiment suggested that dietary supplemtal betaine can improve the egg production and decrease liver fat content.

Two experiments were conducted to investigate the effect of feeding Monascus Purpures(MP) on the growth performance of broiler chicks and egg qualify in laying hens. In Expt 1, MP were supplemented with 0. 0.5, 1.0, 2.0, 4.0% in basal diets. Weight gain, feed intake, feed conversion were examined for five weeks and blood cholesterol, protein were measured at the end of experiment. In Expt 2, diets supplemented with 0, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0, 3.0% MP were fed for two weeks. Egg qualify and yolk cholesterol were weekly measured. In Expt 1, Basal diets containing CP 21.5, 19%, ME 3,100, 3,200 kcal/kg were fed ad libitum for starting and finsihing period, repectively. In Expt 2, hens diet contained CP 16%, ME 2,800 kca1/kg and fed for two weeks. In Expt 1, weight gain of birds fed 2.0% MP was maximized at five weeks of age. Feed efficiency was not statistically different, but tended to improve in 1.0, 2.0% MP supplemental groups compared with control. Total serum cholesterol tended to be lower in 2.0% MP supplemental group but was not statistically different. In Expt 2, albumen height and Haugh unit of birds fed 1.0 and 2.0% MP were higher than other treatments, but was not statistically different. Yolk cholesterol of hens fed MP diets showed no significance.
This study was carried out to investigate the effect of food-waste(FW) between weeks(0, 1, 2, 3, 4 week) and additive levels(0, 1, 3, 5, 10, 20%) on egg production and egg qualify in laying hens. One hundred sixty two White Leghorn laying hens at fifty weeks of age were used for this work. There was no significant difference on feed intake, egg production, and egg weight among all treatments. But, 20% FW group was decreased at 1, 2, and 3 week on egg production and it was recovered at 4 weeks(p<0.05). There was no difference on the eggshell thickness and egg yolk index among all treatments. However, eggshell breaking strength were $4.13kg/cm^2\;and\;4.04kg/cm^2$ at 3 week and 4 week, individually, and there was difference on eggshell breaking strength(p<0.05). Haugh unit and egg yolk color were high at 20% FW group as 92.3 and 9.4, individually, and there was shown the significant increasing in weeks and additive levels(p<0.05). Conclusionally, 20% FW group was decreased on egg production, while 5% FW group was maintained on egg production, and haugh unit and egg yolk color were cleary developed. Therefore, if the nutrients balance of FW diets were controlled, FW diets will be used with one of the valuable feed sources.
This study was conducted to estimate genetic parameters for egg yolk cholesterol. Content of egg yok cholesterol was measured for a total of 473 hens of White Leghorn line. Cholesterol values were obtained from tee consecutively laid eggs when hens were 53 weeks of age. The yolk of each egg was weighted and freeze dried. Dried egg yolks were stored at -2$0^{\circ}C$ until analyzed. The results obtained from this study were as follows; 1. Yolk cholesterol content was measured in average $56.00\pm$0.194 mg/g dry yolk. 2. Heritability from the sire component of variance was $0.522\pm$0.215 and from the sire+dam component of variance $0.33\pm$0.209. 3. Estimates of phenotypic correlation between your cholesterol and other factors such as body weight at 20 weeks of age, age at first egg, 40-week total egg number, egg Production rate: 53-week egg weight and 53-week yolk weight were -0.0208, -0.0321, -0.0378, -0.0834, 0.0790 and 0.1624, respectively. And genetic correlation coefficients for each item in the order were -0.5293, 0.7105, -0.4062, -0.0254, 0.2164 and 0.5027, respectively. 4. These results suggest the possibility that egg Yolk cholesterol should be reduced through selecting of sire families. To breed for low egg yolk cholesterol, it makes age at first egg earlier and enhances total egg number so that we can obtain the high rate of egg Production.

Two experiments were conducted to evaluate the effects of dietary salt levels on the performance in laying hens and broilers. In experiment 1, 108 Avian broilers of 21 days age were conducted to evaluate broiler's performance. The broilers were divided into 6 treatment groups with 6 pens (3 broilers/pen), and 134 diets with different levels of salt with 0.25 (control), 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0 and $2.5\%$, respectively, for 3 weeks $(3\~5 weeks)$. The feed intake was not affected by the treatments. However, moisture content in feces was increased as increasing levels of dietary salt (P<0.05). In experiment 2, 135 ISA Brown laying hens were used to evaluate on performance of laying hens. The dietary supplementation of salt levels were prepared at 0.25 (control), 1, 2, 3 and $4\%$, respectively, for 4 weeks. Feed intake was decreased as increasing the dietary salt levels during the experiment (P<0.05). Particularly, it was lower in $3\%\;and\;4\%$ salt level treatments compared with the control (P<0.05). As expected, water intake was increased as increasing the dietary salt levels (P<0.05). Therefore, the present results could indicate that dietary salt content need to be considered for broilers and laying hens.
