This study is to analyze literacy textbooks for adult learners developed by adult literacy education institutes. In the study, six different kinds of literacy textbooks are collected and analyzed on the basis of five evaluation criteria.: unit organization, presentation way of Hangeul, type of content, level of content, and degree of subject integration. The results of literacy textbook analysis are as follows. First, literacy textbooks carry different forms of unit organization in different textbooks. Most textbooks are composed of lessons, without a hierarchical organization of lessons, whereas some textbooks carry a hierarchical structure of 'unit + lessons'. Second, Hangeul is mostly presented in the form of reading and writing and literacy textbooks tend to present Hangeul as constructing letter through combining vowels and consonants rather than as whole language. Third, literacy textbooks contain life-adjustment situations which would help adult learners to lead everyday lives more efficiently. Fourth, literacy textbooks carry different levels of educational content, ranging from 'basic Hangeul' through 'expanded content' to high level of Hangeul writing. Fifth, literacy textbooks appear to integrate educational content from different subjects in order to provide more relevant content for adult learners.

유니코드가 나오기 전까지는 프로그램용 이두문자의 사용이 불가피한 면이 있었다. 그러나 유니코드가 국제표준으로 명실공이 자리 잡은 지금에도 한글 식별자의 사용을 피해야 한다고 주장하는 것은 세종 이후 지속적으로 한글 사용을 천시하고 반대한 것과 비슷한 측면이 있다. 본 연구에서는 컴퓨터학과 학생들을 대상으로 한 설문조사를 통해 영어 식별자 사용을 선호하는 이유와 한글 식별자를 사용한다고 할 때 영어 대문자의 기능을 대체할 표기법에 대한 선호도를 조사하였다. 그리고 영어 식별자 사용의 대세론이 허망함에 대해 논의하고, 한글 식별자 사용을 위한 두 가지 명명법을 제안하였다. 소프트웨어 생산성 향상을 위해, 프로그래머의 작업 만족도 향상을 위해, 유지보수의 용이성을 위해 한글 식별자 사용이 조속히 보편화될 필요가 있다.

The author studied the process of unifying Hanja variant groups of Korea and China for LGR (Label Generation Rule) of Internet Top-Level Hangeul Hanja Domain and possible confusion between Hangeul syllable and Hanja character. Among 3518 Chinese variant groups, Korea and China need not review variant groups which include no or just one Korean Hanja character. Korea and China reviewed 304 Chinese variant groups (9% of the 3518 Chinese variant groups) which include two or more Korean Hanja characters. By doing so, Korea and China succeeded in efficiently unifying variant groups. Unification process of variant groups which is the main core of Korea-China coordination and almost final unification result is summarized in this paper. In addition, the author analyzed systematically whether some Hanja character could be confused with a Hangeul syllable and obtained a good result which was not expected at the beginning. Probably this kind of systematic analysis has not been performed in the past and seems the first attempt, which is one of the contributions of this paper. The author also reviewed how to express K-LGR in XML for submission to ICANN.

This study aims to suggest basic materials to develop an emotional font for future Hangeul font development plan by investigating emotional reaction displayed through the subjects and by quantifying its contribution of the stimulation elements causing such reaction. For this, a survey of 150 university students who are currently enrolled in the College of Design was conducted in order to analyze correlation between 30 emotional words extracted from the Hangeul font and the selected 36 sample fonts. The combined data was described with the two dimensional dispersion using the quantification theory type III. The analysis found out that the Hangeul font forms the x-axis showing "soft(dynamic).hard(static)" and the y-axis showing "modern(light).classic(heavy)”. Specifically, there exist emotional groups such as "archaic","masculine","feminine","negative", and "modern static"on each axis. In addition, to extract the casual relationship between the value of emotional reaction and its stimulation elements quantitatively, the author indicated the emotional words of each axis and the total value of equivalent five emotional word groups as the standard variance and the constituent of Hangeul font as the independent variable, and then the quantification theory type I was used to analyze the physical elements of the Hangeul font. As a result, "the centerline of gravity(base line)" and "thickness variance of a stroke" on the two axes, and "the centerline of gravity(base line)" and "decoration" among the five groups were identified as the most influential elements that affect the emotional reaction of the subjects.

In accordance with development of smart phone, the importance of keypad was increasing, because the smart phone provides a variety of feature like word processor, chatting program, messenger and etc. In this paper, we propose the new Hangeul keypad for smart phones using gestures. And, also we do experiment for performance evaluation of the proposed keypad in this paper. The experiment shows that the proposed keypad is more efficient than other keypads.

This paper examines transcription of sounds from a phonological perspective. It has found that most of transcriptions have been done on a segmental basis alone, without consideration of the whole phonological systems and levels, and without a full understanding of the nature of the linguistic and phonetic alphabets. In a word, sound transcriptions have not been done on the basis of the phonology of the language and the alphabet. This study shows a phonological model for transcribing foreign and native sounds, suggesting ways of improving some of the current transcription systems such as the Hangeul transcription of loan words and the romanization of Hangeul, as well as the phonetic transcription of English and other foreign languages.

본 연구에서는 현재 사용되는 한글 모오스 부호가 정보이론에 의거한 합리적인 부호가 되지 못한다는 점을 지적하였고 이를 개선하기 위하여 한글의 사용빈도에 대한 통계를 고려한 합리적인 한글 모오스 부호를 제안하였으며 더 나아가서 26개 문자방식을 채택하는 경우가 24개 한글 기본문자만 채택하는 경우에 비하여 정보의 전송속도 면에서 어떠한 영향을 주는가를 검토하였다. 이 결과로 제안된 한글 모오스 부호는 현재 사용되고 있는 한글 모오스 부호보다 부호의 평균 길이를 17% 단축시켰으며 따라서 통신속도가 21% 향상 된다는 결론이 나왔다.

본 논문에서는 모바일 상황에서 동작할 수 있는 웹 앱을 이용하여 한글로 영어 발음을 표기할 수 있는 영어단어와 문장 전자사전을 설계하고 개발하였다. 데이터베이스는 영어단어, 한글 발음기호와 그림, 어휘 정의, 음성파일, 문장들을 사용하여 만들었다. 본 영어 학습시스템은 HTML5와 m-Bizmaker 소프트웨어 툴을 사용하여 개발하였다.

This paper presents the algorithm of an on-line cursive Hangeul recognition by means of the DP matching with structural information. In the proposed method, the penalty represents the similarity between input character and reference character. The penalty is dynamically computed with types of strokes, directions of strokes, and the length rations of fragment during the process that searchs for an optimal path using 3$\times$3 matrix. As the result, this method can be exactly matched for even greatly deformed characters. The computer simulation shows that the proposed algorithm can be utilized in recognizing cursive Hangeul as well as correct Hangeul.

본 논문은 한글의 특성을 3상태 변환 그래프를 이용하여 경제적으로 코드화하는 방법을 제시한 것이다. 이 방법을 사용하면, 한글을 표시하는데 코드의 평균 길이는 자모당 약 204비트 정도가 필요하게 되는데 이것은 다른 방법에서 제시된 것보다 약 1비트이상 축약된 것이다. 따라서 정뵤교환이 필수 조건인 정확성 간결성 신속성 경제성을 향상시킬 수가 있게 된다.
