Lithium secondary batteries have become an important power source for portable electronic devices such as cellular phones, laptop computers. Presently, commercialized lithium-ion batteries use a LiCoO2 cathode. However, due to the high cost and environmental problems resulting from cobalt, an intensive search for new electrode materials is being actively conducted. Recently, solid solution LiMn1-xNixO2 have become attractive because of high capacity and enhanced safety at high voltages over 4.5 V. The Li1.6Ni0.35Mn0.65O2 compounds were conventionally prepared by a sol-gel method, which can produce the layered Li-Ni-Mn-O compounds with a high homogeneity. And by adding a graphene 2wt% the first charge-discharge voltage profiles was increased over Li1.6Ni0.35Mn0.65O2 compound. Also, the variation s of the discharge capacities with cycling showed a higher capacity retention rater. In this study, material lifecycle evaluation was performed to analyze the environmental impact characteristics of Li1.6Ni0.35Mn0.65O2 & graphene 2wt% half-cell manufacturing process. The software of material life cycle assessment was Gabi. Through this, environmental impact assessment was performed for each process. The environmental loads induced by Li1.6Ni0.35Mn0.65O2 & graphene 2wt% synthesis process were quantified and analyzed, and the results showed that the amount of power had the greatest impact on the environment.
Two possible space groups of the comfound, VP6N3018C24H:60, are: P 1, a=14.022(1), b=12.644(2), c= 12.640(1)A, a=8038(1), B=102.12(1), r=102.16(1), V=2124.1A3, Z=2, μ=0.47cm-1, d=1.46g/cm3, R=0.083 for 3350 independent reflections with Fo>4o IFI, and C2/c, a=19.32(2), b=16.32(2), c=14.02(1)A, B=105.98(5), β=105.98(5), V=4248.2A3, Z=4 R=0.083 for 1590 independent reflections with Fo>4c IFoI . In the space group P T, there are two monlecules in a unit cell. Vanadium atoms in the two monlecules occupy the two different special positions such that the complete monlecules are accomplished by the two independent center of symmetry. Therefore two different half molecules of bis(trimetaphosphate)vanadate and three molecules of tetraethylammonium are the asymmetric unit in a unit cell. In the space group C2/c, however, the vanadium atom is located at a special position with centrosymmetry, and a two-fold symmetry axis passes through C2/c, N2 and C25 atoms. Therefore the asymmrtic unit in a unit cell consists of a half molecule of bis(trimetaphosphate)vanadate and one and a half molecules of tetraethylammonium. All the molecular conformations in both space groups are very similar: six oxygen atoms coordinated to a vanadium atom in the bi s(trimetaphosphate)vanadate molecule form an octahedron and the four carbon atoms bonded to a nitrogen atom in the tetraethylammonium molecule are disordered so that the eight carbon atoms around nitrogen atom exhibit an irregular dodecahedral form.

Concrete is a construction material with porous media and corroded steel inside affects negatively to durability and structural safety. This study aims a derivation of quantitative relationship between measured HCP (Half Cell Potential) and corrosion amount considering cover depth and W/C (water to cement) ratio. For the work, cement mortar specimens with 3 different W/C ratios and 4 different cover depths are prepared, HCPs are measured with 3 different corrosion level. HCP measurement significantly increases in the saturated condition and linear relationship is observed between corrosion level and acceleration period. With increasing corrosion level and W/C ratio, and decreasing cover depth, HCP measurement increases. Considering total corrosion level and HCP measurements, relatively low COV(Coefficient of Variation) of 0.67 is evaluated through multi-linear regression analysis, however higher COVs over 0.90 can be obtained considering level of HCP measurement. In the room condition, corrosion level can be evaluated through measured HCP in the given conditions of cover depth, W/C ratio. diameter of steel inside.

Stupa of State Preceptor Jigwang at Beopcheonsa temple site, Wonju, was conserved and restored in 1957. It was necessary to assess the degree of damage to the used mortar and to provide objective data on the necessity of its removal. Therefore, the HCP(half-cell potential) measurement used in concrete fields was applied. Multi-regression analysis of HCP data, following the rapid corrosion test of the roofstone mortar used by the rebar, resulted in a high correlation of HCP values(0.86), depending on the amount of corrosion and cover depth used for the steel bar. As a result, high correlation values(0.86) for the coefficients of determination were derived. The showed that the measurement of the wet conditions -431 to -663 mV on the roofstone indicated a corrosion damage rate of 90% or more after removal and restoration.
Phytase improves the bioavailability of phytate phosphorus in plant foods to humans and animals, and reduces the phosphorus pollution of animal waste. We have engineered the cell surface of the yeast. Saccharomyces cerevisiae, by anchoring active fungal phytase on its cell wall, in order to apply it as a dietary supplement containing bioconversional functions in animal foods and a whole cell bio-catalyst for the treatment of waste. The phytase gene (phyA) of Aspergillus niger with a signal peptide of rice amylase 1A (Ramy1A) was fused with the gene encoding the C-terminal half (320 amino acid residues from the C-terminus) of yeast ${\alpha}-agglutinin$, a protein which is involved in mating and is covalently anchored to the cell wall. The resulting fusion construct was introduced into S. cerevisiae and expressed under the control of the constitutive glyceraldehydes-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (GPD) promoter. Phytase plate assay revealed that the surface-engineered cell exhibited a catalytically active opaque zone which was restricted to the margin of the colony. Additionally, the phytase activity was detected in the cell fraction, but was not detected in the culture medium when it was grown in liquid. These results indicate that the phytase was successfully anchored to the cell surface of yeast and was displayed as its active form. The amount of recombinant phytase on the surface of yeast cells was estimated to be 16,000 molecules per cell.

Wanpae-tang is suggested to have antitumor activity on lung cancer. This study was performed to investigate antitumor, immune response, and apoptotic effects by Wanpae-tang in the cancer cell lines and C57BL/6 mice. Experimental studies were progressed through the anticancer activities such as, survival time, cell cytotoxicity, natural killer cell activity, productivity of interleukins and apoptotio effects. The results were summarized as follows: 1. Median survival time of Wanpae-tang treated group was prolonged to 4.1%, as compared with control group, but was not significant. 2. On the MTT assay, half-maximal inhibitory concentration(IC50) of Wanpae-tang was 15.00 ㎎/㎖ in HeLa cell, and 4.158 ㎎/㎖ in HRT-18 cell. 3. Natural killer cell activity in Wanpae-tang treated group was decreased in case of 100:1 and 10:1 effect cell/target cell ratio. 4. Production of interleukin-2, 4, 12 in Wanpae-tang treated group were significantly increased. 5. On the studies of Wanpae-tang induced apoptosis, a DNA fragmentation patterns were not appeared.
The double tracer study on erythrokinetics was carried out experimentally with radioactive iron ($^{59}Fe$) and chromium ($^{51}Cr$) in rabbits. The 0.1% canthalidin solution and 1% pot. perchlomate solution was given subcutaneously to 20 rabbits respectively. 3 and 6 days after injection, the blood chemistry, urine examination, ferrokinetics and apparent half survival time of RBC were ($^{51}Cr\;T\frac{1}{2}$)determined. Following were the results: 1) Red blood cell hematocrit and hemoglobin values were moderately reduced and B.U.N. and serum creatinine values were slight]y inercased in the canthalidin group, while B.U.N. and serum creatinine values were within normal limits in the pot. perchlomate group. Reticulocyte values were slight]y increased in the canthalidin group, while was normal range in the pot. perchlomate group. 2) Blood chemistry finding was not significant statistically in both experimental groups, but serum iron value was moderately reduced in both group. 3) Plasma volume was unchanged in both group, but red cell volume and whole blood volume were slightly reduced in both groups. 4) Results of ferrokinetics were as follows: i) The plasma iron disappearance rate was delayed in both groups. Plasma iron turnover rate, red cell iron utilization and red cell iron turnover rate were decreased in both groups, and then red cell iron turnover rate was more decreased than plasma iron turnover rate in both groups. Circulating red cell iron was slight]y increased in canthalidin group and red cell iron concentration was within normal range in both groups. ii) P.I.T.R.-R.C.I.T. value was moderately increased in the canthalidin group and slightly increased in the pot. perchlomate group. Reticulocyte index, red cell iron turnover index, plasma iron turnover index and effective erythropoiesis index were whole]y reduced in both groups. iii) The red cell life span was slightly shortened in the canthalidin group while was within normal range in pot. perchlomate group. The pathologic finding of renal biopsy of the canthalidin group shows a selective damage in glomerulus, while shows almost normal range or slight damage in tubules. And that of the pot. perchlomate group shows a selective damage in tubules with slight damage of glomerulus.
These experiments were carried out to establish the optimal condition of electrostimulatin inducing cell fusion and oocyte activation for nuclear transplantation in mouse embryos. Eggs selected for cell fusion or activation by electrostimulation were equilibrated for 5~10 min. in 0.3M sucrose solution and electrostimulated for 60$\mu$sec using 1 pulse of 60, 70, 80, 90 or 100 volts DC with electrodes 0.2 mm apart. Then they were cultured in 20${mu}ell$ dropsof Tyrode's solution. The results of these experiments are as follows : 1. When one pulse of 60, 70, 80, 90 or 100 volts DC for 60$\mu$sec were applied to 2-cell embryos for fusion of blastomeres, fusion rates were 50.0, 81.7, 91.7, 100 and 100%, respectively ; and developmental rates of fused embryos to blastocyst were 76.7 to 81.5%. Higher fusion rates were observed in 90V and 100V. 2. The average cell number in fused embryos developed to blastocyst was about half of the cell number in diploid controls; and the cell number decreased with increasing of voltages. 3. When pulse numbers were increased, fusion rates improved, but developmental rates were not signficiantly different from the group for which the number of pulse was not increased. And the cell number of blastocyst decreased even more. 4. Oocytes aged for 6hrs after ovulation were electrostimulated for oocyte activation by the same method used for cell fusion. Rates of oocyte activated by electrostimulation were 45.3 to 60.4%, and fragmentation rates were 7.5~15.1%. The lysis rates were 17.0~34.0%. The results of these experiments indicate that the optimal condition for achieving cell fusion and activation is 1 pulse, duration 60$\mu$sec in 90 Volt. The results also show that this condition is suitable for nuclear transplantation using mouse eggs.
Ampliciline was synthesized from 6-amino-pencillanic acid (6-APA) and D-.alpha. phenylglycine methyl ester by using amplicilin synthesizing enzyme from Peudomonas melanogenum (IAM 1655). The whole cell enzyme was immobilized by entrapping it in the polyacrylamide gel lattices. The polymer used in the enzyme entrapment was made from 150 mg per ml of acrylamide monomer and 8 mg per ml of N, N'-methylenebisacrylamide. About 200 mg/whole cell enzyme was mixed in the polymer for entrapment. The maximal activity retention after immobilization was 56%. The optimal pH values for the whole cell enzyme and the immobilized whole cell enzyme were 6.0 and 5.9, respectively. The optimal temperature for the enzyme activity were the same for both type of preparations. The enzyme stabilities against pH and heat increased for immobilized whole cell enzyme. Immobilized cell was more stable especially in the acidic condition while both type were found to be very suceptible to thermal inactivation at a temperature above 4.deg.C. The kinetic constants obtained from Lineweaver-Burk plot based on two substate reaction mechanism showed somewhat higher value for immobilized whole cell enzyme as compared to the whole cell enzyme : the Km value for 6-APA were 7.0 mM and 12.5 mM while Km values for phenylglycine methyl ester were 4.5 mM and 8.2 mM, respectively. Using the immobilized whole cell enzyme packed in a column reactor, the productivity of ampiciline was studied by varying the flow rate of substrate solution. At the space velocity, SV, 0.14 hr$^{-1}$ the conversion was 45%. Operational stability found in terms of half life was 30 hr at SV = 0.2 hr.

Granular cell tumor is not rare and is a well recognized entity which has a wide anatomic distribution, with roughly one half of the lesions found in the head and neck. However, occurrence in the thyroid is extremely rare and has not been described well as surgeon's view. The authors have recently experienced a case of multifocal granular cell tumor of the thyroid in a 26-year-old women presented with painless mass in the anterior neck area and fatigue. So, we present this case with the review of literatures.
