In Korea, which is mostly mountainous, the proportion of tunnel and underground space development are increasing. Although the ground is reinforced by applying the ground improvement method during underground space development, accidents still occur frequently in Korea. In the grouting method, a representative ground reinforcement method, the effect was judged by comparing the total amount of injection material with the amount of injection material used during the actual grouting construction. However, it is difficult to determine whether the ground reinforcement is properly performed during construction or within the target ground. In order to solve this problem, it is necessary to study a new method for quality control during or after construction by measuring electrical resistivity after performing grouting by mixing carbon fiber, which is a conductive material, and microcement, which is a grout material. In this study, as a basic study, a cement specimen mix ed with 0%, 3%, 5%, 7% of carbon fiber was prepared to evaluate the performance of the grout material mixed with carbon fiber, which is a conductive material. The prepared specimens were wet curing for 3 days, 7 days, and 28 days under 99% humidity, and then compression wave velocity and shear wave velocity were measured. As a result of the compression wave velocity and shear wave velocity measurement, it showed a tendency to increase with the increase in the compounding ratio of carbon fibers and the number of days of age, and it was confirmed that the elastic modulus and shear modulus, which are the stiffness of the material, also increased.
The grouting method is a method of construction for the purpose of waterproofing and reinforcing soft ground. When grout is injected into the ground, there are various types of penetration and diffusion of grout depending on the shape of the ground, the size of soil, the porosity, and the presence or absence of groundwater. the current situation. Therefore, in this study, to investigate the penetration performance of the grouting to conductive material, laboratory tests were performed on the addition of the conductive material. In the injection test, 0%, 3%, and 5% of the mixed water were added as conductive materials to the grout, and the original ground condition was composed of various types of ground composed of gravel and silica sand. Conductive grout is injected by pressure into the model ground using a dedicated injection device, and the injection time (t), pressure (p), flow rate (v) and injection amount (q) are measured, and the hardened body injected in the model ground is collected. Penetration performance was evaluated. In the results of the grout injection experiment, the amount of conductive material used and the grout injection rate showed an inverse relationship, and it was confirmed that the penetration pattern was changed according to the size of the soil particles in the model ground. The grout containing the conductive material has relatively good penetration into the ground and excellent strength and durability of the hardened body, so it was judged that it could be used as an additive for measuring the penetration range of the grout.
In performing a series of in-situ thermal response tests, the effective thermal conductivities of six vertical closed-loop ground heat exchangers were experimentally evaluated and compared one another, which were constructed in a test bed in Wonju. To compare thermal efficiency of the ground heat exchangers in field, the six boreholes were constructed with different construction conditions: grouting materials (cement vs. bentonite), different additives (silica sand vs. graphite) and the shape of pipe-sections (general U-loop type vs. 3 pipe-type). From the test results, it can be concluded that cement grouting has a higher effective thermal conductivity than bentonite grouting, and the efficiency of graphite better performs than silica sand as a thermally-enhancing addictive. In addition, a new 3 pipe-type heat exchanger provides less thermal interference between the inlet and outlet pipe than the conventional U-loop type heat exchanger, which results in superior thermal performance. Based on the results from the in-situ thermal response tests, a series of economic analyses have been made to show the applicability of the new addictives and 3 pipe-type heat exchanger.

Recently, as the size of transportation vessels has increased, there is a growing need for securing the front-water depths of existing port facilities. The method of deepening front-water depth is securing the depth of the port facility, and it is reinforced by grouting after excavating the rubble-mound to the required depth. The purpose of this study is to investigate the reinforcing performance and filling performance of thixotropic grout as a grouting material for reinforcing rubble-mound. Compressive strength tests were carried out for two types of thixotropic grout, and 5 specimens with a diameter of 400 mm and a height of 530 mm were manufactured and evaluated for filling performance. The required strength of reinforced rubble-mound required to ensure the safety of the structure is 6 MPa. All the thixotropic grouts used in this study were found to satisfy the required strength over 9 MPa at 7 days of age. As a result of visual observation of filling state of the filling performance test specimens, it was confirmed that the thixotropic grout was well filled up to the desired fillet height.

A ground loop heat exchanger for the ground source heat pump system is the core equipment determining the thermal performance and initial cost of the system The length and performance of the heat exchanger is dependent on the ground thermal conductivity, the operation hours, the ground loop diameter, the grout, the ground loop arrangement, the pipe placement and the design temperature. The result of this simulation shows that higher thermal conductivity of grouting materials leads to the decrease length of geothermal heat exchanger from 100.0 to 84.4%.
The grout based on solution type makes it difficult to get the improvement of ground strength and the effefct of water curtain because it has lower strength and durability than suspension type. Nowadays, the technology of particle acceleration, that enhance the material permeability, such as grout based on solution type, and inexpensive grout, is being required. For these reasons, in this study, using wet milling system, we evaluated physical properties of manufactured factors such as water-cement ratio of particles before being milled, optimum milling capacity by controlling milling time and rpm, viscosity of materials, permeation coefficient, and unconfined compressive strength. Also, using micro wet milling apparatus which could manufacture ordinary Portland cement and high speed shear mix which could forcefully separate conglomerate particles in situ, we performed electrical resistivity investigation and falling head permeability tests to analyze differences of grouting effects. From these results, we found that the permeability of the applied equipment was much superior, and in the case of using high speed shear mixer, particles of grout material were well separated.

PHC-W earth retaining wall could be constructed continuously. Various retaining wall methods such as C.I.P. etc. method require separate waterproof method. However, the PHC-W retaining wall method prevents leakage of groundwater by inserting a waterproofing material at connection part between 2 PHC piles. In this study, the experimental study on 3 waterproofing method for PHC-W retaining wall was conducted at the model pressure chamber. In the method using textile with 1-liquid type and 2-liquid type urethane, rapid leak occurred at the pressure of 120 kPa and 140 kPa or more. In the method of textile with grouting, rapid leak occurred at the pressure of 120 kPa or more, however, in this method, the rapid leakage happened at the top part and the bottom part reinforced with urethane.

Bentonite-based grouting has been popularly used to seal a borehole installed for a closed-loop vertical ground heat exchanger in a geothermal heat pump system (GHP) because its high swelling potential. However, if the bentonite-based grouting is conducted in coastal areas, the salinity of groundwater changes in the mineral fabric of bentontie. In order words, an increase of cation concentration in groundwater leads to a reduction in the diffuse double-layer thickness in the bentonite mineral structure, and thus the volume of bentointe-based grouts will decrease proportional to the salinity of groundwater. In this paper, the effect of salinity (i.e., NaCl 0.5M, 0.25M, and 0.1M) on the change of swelling potential for bentonite-based grouts has been quantitatively evaluated for seven bentonite grouts from different product sources. In addition, in case of using addictives such as a silica sand to increase the thermal conductivity of bentonite-based grouts, the possibility of particle segregation has been studied considering the viscosity of grouts and salinity of groundwater.

A case study of monitoring and analysis of surface settlement induced by tunneling of Tabriz metro line 2 (TML2) is presented in this paper. The TML2 single tunnel has been excavated using earth pressure balanced TBM with a cutting-wheel diameter of 9.49 m since 2015. Presented measurements of surface settlements, were collected during the construction of western part of the project (between west depot and S02 station) where the tunnel was being excavated in sand and silt, below the water table and at an average axis depth of about 16 m. Settlement readings were back-analyzed using Gaussian formula, both in longitudinal and transversal directions, in order to estimate volume loss and settlement trough width factor. In addition to settlements, face support and tail grouting pressures were monitored, providing a comprehensive description of the EPB performance. Using the gap model, volume loss prediction was carried out. Also, COB empirical method for determination of the face pressure was employed in order to compare with field monitored data. Likewise, FE simulation was used in various sections employing the code Simulia ABAQUS, to investigate the efficiency of numerical modelling for the estimating of the tunneling induced-surface settlements under such a geotechnical condition. In this regard, the main aspects of a mechanized excavation were simulated. For the studied sections, numerical simulation is not capable of reproducing the high values of in-situ-measured surface settlements, applying Mohr-Coulomb constitutive law for soil. Based on results, for the mentioned case study, the range of estimated volume loss mostly varies from 0.2% to 0.7%, having an average value of 0.45%.
A ground-loop heat exchanger for the ground source heat pump system is the core equipment determining the thermal performance and initial cost of the system. The size and performance of the heat exchanger is highly dependent on the ground thermal properties - the ground effective thermal conductivity, the borehole thermal resistance and the undisturbed ground temperature. Nowadays, precast concrete piles using steel reinforced precast concrete piles - energy piles - are used to reduce the installing cost of the ground-loop heat exchanger. We were carried out some tests to investigate the effects of some parameters such as borehole length, grouting materials and U-tube configuration of the energy piles. 4 concrete piles, each measuring $250mm{\sim}400mm$ in diameter and approx. 10m in length, and rigged with single spiral and 3 U-tube loop of $16mm{\times}2.3mm$ PB piping. The thermal response tests were conducted using a testing device for 4-different ground-loop heat exchangers. During the heating period, the energy piles absorb the heat of 0.89kW to 1.37kW.
