The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of using learner-created DST to communicate academic information on the creativity and flow of university students. The sample consisted of 100 undergraduate students who were assigned to either the DST group or the expository instruction group. The DST group created digital stories, and the expository group were taught using an expository instructional method. An achievement test, the Creativity Personality Scale (CPS), and the Flow State Scale (FSS) were used to collect data. The results showed that the achievement scores of the DST group were higher than those of the expository group, and the scores on the patience sub-factor of the CPS of the DST group significantly differed from those of the expository instruction group. Finally, the scores on the seven sub-factors of the FSS of the DST group differed significantly from those of the expository instruction group. The findings of this study suggest that the DST can be applied as teaching and learning method in a university class.
This research investigated the effect of story-plotting and oral narration activities using wordless picture books upon young children's linguistic creativity and expression. The subjects were 30 children of experimental group and another 30 in the control group at age five. The Korean Comprehensive Creativity Test for Young Children(K-CCTYC; Jeon, 2005) was used to measure linguistic creativity. In addition, Measure Tools for Linguistic Ability(Jang, 1981) was used to measure the linguistic expression. There were significant differences between the two groups in linguistic creativity including linguistic fluency, flexibility, and originality as well as linguistic expression.
The present study examined the effect on children's creativity of using painting masterpieces with activities of physical expression. Subjects were 32 five-year-old kindergarten children assigned to control or experimental groups. The experimental group participated in physical expression activities using painting masterpieces twice a week for six weeks. Figure paintings of such famous artists as Kim Hong Do, Kim Deek Shin, Degas and others were presented by Projection TV in connection with physical movement in the classroom. Creativity was tested by Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking(2002). Results showed that the experimental group exhibited positive change in creativity scores and the sub-areas of creativity(fluency, originality, abstractness of titles, elaboration, and resistance to premature closure).
Creativity is an essential ability for a successful design task, mainly because design is an activity creating something new. As the sphere of design has expanded and become complex, the design task goes beyond an individual designer's capability. Therefore, it is necessary to organize a design team consisting of various team members with diverse expertises. The aim of this study is to find out the impact of fundamental attributes of members on the group creativity in order to establish a guideline for building a creative design team. Heterogeneous teams and homeogenous teams were created according to three main factors of group creativity namely, personality, field and experience. The group creativity of each team were evaluated through protocol analysis of design activities as well as the comparison of problem solving processes and outputs. It was identified that the impact of design teams on the group creativity was distinctively different in four phases of the design process (preparation, divergence, convergence, and execution) regarding creativity properties such as fluency, elaboration, originality, usefulness. Based on these findings, a schematic model for building a design team in order to enhance the group creativity by composing the most appropriate team members for each phases of the design process was developed.
This study aimed to investigate the effects of scaffolding on creativity in Wiki-based collaborative learning. Wiki-based collaborative learning was implemented over three sessions among 67 sixth graders in an elementary school, and subjects were divided into three groups: Group 1 had a teachers' scaffolding and self-questioning script; Group 2 had a teachers' scaffolding; and Group 3, the control group, had no scaffolding. Results showed a significant difference in creativity among the groups with different types of scaffolding(Wilks' Lambda=.238, F=8.678, p < .001). Group 1, had significantly higher performance compared to the Group in creativity. However, when self-questoning script and a teachers' scaffolding were offered, self-scaffolding was not found to have a significant effect on learners' Originality of creativity. Group 2 showed higher performance in Originality of creativity when only a teachers' scaffolding was offered in the collaborative learning. The results of this study suggest that teachers' scaffolding and self-scaffolding have positive effects on creativity, but the need for a differentiated self-scaffolding strategy to identify the factors that influence creativity in wiki-based collaborative learning.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of project activities on the development of problem solving skills and creativity of elementary school children. To achieve this purpose, 83 second grade children were sampled in Seoul-City, and they were assigned to experimental group and control group. Two project activities of social studies subject were treated to the experimental group for 4 weeks. And, the ‘Problem Solving Skills Test’ and ‘Creativity Test’were administered to both group children for the pretest and posttest. The collected data were analyzed by t-test to test the research hypothesis. The major findings of this study were as follows: Firstly, there were statistically significant differences between experimental group and control group on the posttest scores of problem solving skills. It showed that the posttest scores of comprehension skills[t(81)=3.09, p<.01], practical skills[t(81)=2.40, p<.05], and the total score of problem solving skills[t(81)=4.24, p<.01] were significantly higher than that of control group. Secondly, there were statistically significant differences between experimental group and control group on the posttest scores of creativity. It showed that the posttest scores of fluency[t(81)=4.33, p<.01], originality[t(81)=2.85, p<.01], and the total score of creativity[t(81)=6.43, p<.01] were significantly higher than that of control group.
In this study, in order to support the expression of group creativity of high school students, we developed mathematics learning contents linked with mobile and online/offline that obtain the maximum and minimum values of the function within a limited range. This learning content was developed in connection with the 'environment', a cross-curricular learning topic. We explored the concept of group creativity in school mathematics. Its manifestation process, elements of group creativity expression process, and mobile and on/offline implementation functions were also explored. Then, we developed a hybrid app, 'Making the Best Box that Thinks of the Earth', which can express group creativity through mobile and online/offline-linked cooperative learning. A learning management system (LMS) and a teaching and learning guidance plan were also developed to efficiently operate mobile and online/offline-linked math learning using the app in schools. Our study found that the hybrid app, 'Creating the Best Box that Thinks of the Earth', was suitable for promoting collective fluency and collective sophistication based on complementary-metacognitive interaction.
In this study, pre-service mathematics teachers cultivated technology content teaching knowledge (TPACK) in the regular curriculum of the College of Education. The course was designed to enhance pre-service teachers' mathematical communication skills by using an application, which is a mobile mathematics learning content for the development of group creativity of high school students. The educational program to improve mathematics teaching expertise using the application for group creativity expression consists of pre-education, goal setting, planning, teaching at school, and evaluation. In this process, pre-service teachers evaluated technology tools. They also wrote a task dialogue, lesson play, reflective journal, and lesson plan to guide high school students to develop group creativity in both app activities. As a result of the educational program, pre-service mathematics teachers cultivated TPACK and enhanced their mathematical communication skills with high school students to develop group creativity.
This study sheds light on the importance of developing creativity in mathematics class by examining the theoretical base of creativity and its relationship to mathematics. The study also reviewed the realities of developing creativity in mathematics courses, and it observed and analyzed the processes in which students and teachers solve the mathematics problems. By doing so, the study examined creative abilities of both students and teachers and suggests what teachers can do to tap the potential of the student. The subjects of the study are two groups of students and one group of mathematics teachers. These groups were required to solve a particular problems. The grading was made based on the mathematical creativity factors. There were marked differences in the ways of the solutions between of the student groups and the teacher group. It was clear that the teachers\\` thinking was limited to routine approaches in solving the given problems. In particular, there was a serious gap in the area of originality. As can be seen from the problem analysis by groups, there was a meaningful difference between the creativity factors of students and those of teachers. This study presented research findings obtained from students who were guided to freely express their creativity under encouragement and concern of their teachers. Thus, teachers should make an effort to break from their routine thinking processes and fixed ideas. In addition, teaching methods and contents should emphasize on development of creativity. Such efforts will surely lead to an outcome that is beneficial to students.

Purpose: This study aimed at (a) developing an instructional model of creative thinking education on the problem-based learning method (C-PBL) in undergraduate nursing curriculum at one University, and (b) examining its effect on nursing students' level of creativity and outcomes from problem-based learning. Methods: The C-PBL model was implemented on 43 juniors of the experimental group with a 30 hour-nursing class during one semester. The control group, with 54 seniors, received 4 hours of problem based learning training in an adult nursing class. Pre-and post-tests were done with the Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking for creative thinking ability, the Integrated Creativity Instrument for creative motivation and attitudes, the Problem Solving Competency questionnaire, and the Self-Directed Learning Instrument. Results: The C-PBL model was developed using a caring situation scenario to solve nursing problems with 3 training steps of 'encountering a patient in a caring situation', 'exploring nursing knowledge', and 'designing creative caring beyond given knowledge'. Between the experimental group and the control group, there were significant differences in creativity (p<.010), problem-solving ability (p<.010), and self-directed ability (p<.010). Conclusion: This C-PBL method could contribute in increasing creative competency as well as problem-solving ability for nursing students.
