It is often necessary to predict the vibration patterns of the structures from the signals of finite number of vibration sensors. This study presents the optimal placement of vibration sensors by applying the genetic algorithm and the modal expansion method. The modal expansion method is used to estimate the vibration response of the whole structure. The genetic algorithm is used to estimate the optimal placement of vibration sensors. Optimal sensor placement can be obtained so that the fitness function is minimized in the genetic algorithm. This paper discusses the comparison of the performances of two types of fitness functions, modal assurance criteria(MAC) and condition number( CN). As a result, the estimation using MAC shows better performance than using CN.

Halla horse is crossbreed between Jeju and Thoroughbred horses and is used for riding, racing and meat production. Thus, molecular genetic studies are needed to establish and preserve the industrially valuable Halla horses. This study aimed to analyses the genetic diversity and population structure through 12 microsatellite (MS) markers for Halla and putatively related 3 breeds (Jeju, Mongolian and Thoroughbred horses). On average, the number of alleles, observed heterozygosity (Hobs), expected heterozygosity (Hexp), and polymorphic information content (PIC) among all horses were 10, 0.767, 0.799, and 0.771, respectively. Neighbor-joining tree and STRUCTURE analysis showed that Halla horses were between Thoroughbred and Jeju horses, tend to more influenced by Thoroughbred horses. Therefore, these results could be considered for use as the basic genetic breed relationships resource among the horse breeds (Jeju, Mongolian, and Thoroughbred horses) related to the origins of the Halla horse.
Berchemia racemosa var. magna is only found in Anmyeon Island of South Korea. Genetic diversity and the spatial genetic structure of B. racemosa var. magna in Anmyeon Island were studied by I-SSR marker system. Fifty I-SSR amplicons were produced from 8 selected primers. We used 13 polymorphic markers to analyze the genetic structure. Distribution of 39 individuals in the study plot($90m{\times}70m$) showed aggregate pattern (aggregation index = 0.706). Total 21 genets were observed from 39 individuals through I-SSR genotyping. Proportion of distinguishable genotype (G/N), genotype diversity (D) and genotype evenness (E) were 53.8%, 0.966 and 0.946, respectively. In spite of the small number and the narrow distribution, Shannon's diversity index (I = 0.598) was relatively high as compared with those of the other plant species. For ex situ genetic conservation of B. racemosa var. magna, the sampling strategy based on spatial autocorrelation using Tanimoto distance is efficient at choosing the conserved individuals with a 6 meter interval between individual trees.

For the spring ephemeral and myrmecochorous perennia, Corydalis filistipes Nakai (Fumariaceae), rare and narrow endemic to Ullung Island in Korea, genetic diversity and structure of 4 subpopulations of the species were investigated with allozyme markers. Levels of genetic diversity (A=1.73, $P_{95%}$=61..2%, Ho=0.201, He=0.167) were relatively lower than those of other endemic species with widespread distribution range, but considerably higher than other endemic species with similar life history traits isolated in island. The moderate level of genetic diversity within subpopulations in C. filistipes is characteristic of the species with predominantly outcrossing, myrmecochorous seed dispersal by dual function of the elaisome and mode of sexual and asexual reproduction by the cleistogamy. The analysis of fixation indices showed an overall excess of heterozygotes (mean $F_{IS}=-0.1889,\;F_{IT}=-0.1226$) relative to H-W expectations. About 5.6% of the total genetic variation was found among subpopulations ($F_{ST}$=0.0557). The strategies of reasonable conservation and management, and the maintenance mechanism of genetic diversity of Corydalis filistipes Nakai, endemic plant species in Korea were discussed.

In this paper, we design an optimized planar array structure with triangular lattice for side-lobe reduction using a genetic algorithm. A constraint optimization is implemented by optimally removing some outer array elements far from the array center. It is shown that only the proper array shape without optimizing the magnitudes and phases of each array antenna can give low side-lobe level with a slight main beam broadening.

Quantitative Structure-Activity Relationship (QSAR) have been established of 57 fluorovinyloxyacetamides compounds to correlate and predict EC50 values. Genetic algorithm (GA) and multiple linear regression analysis were used to select the descriptors and to generate the equations that relate the structural features to the biological activities. This equation consists of three descriptors calculated from the molecular structures with molecular mechanics and quantum-chemical methods. The results of MLR and GA show that dipole moment of z-axis, radius of gyration and logP play an important role in growth inhibition of barnyard grass.
In this paper, we suggest dynamic genetic tree-maps(DGTM) using optimal features on recognizing data. The DGTM uses the genetic algorithm about the importance of features rarely considerable on conventional neural networks and introduces GTM(genetic tree-maps) using tree structure according of the priority of features. Hence, we propose the extended formula, DGTM(dynamic GTM) has dynamic functions to separate and merge the neuron of neural network along the similarity of features.

This paper presents a genetic programming based evolutionary strategy for on-line adaptive learnable evolvable hardware. Genetic programming can be useful control method for evolvable hardware for its unique tree structured chromosome. However it is difficult to represent tree structured chromosome on hardware, and it is difficult to use crossover operator on hardware. Therefore, genetic programming is not so popular as genetic algorithms in evolvable hardware community in spite of its possible strength. We propose a chromosome representation methods and a hardware implementation method that can be helpful to this situation. Our method uses context switchable identical block structure to implement genetic tree on evolvable hardware. We composed an evolutionary strategy for evolvable hardware by combining proposed method with other's striking research results. Proposed method is applied to the autonomous mobile robots cooperation problem to verify its usefulness.
Genetic variability and population structure of 11 natural ayu, Plecoglossus altivelis populations and one hatchery stock were assessed by starch gel electrophoretic analysis with 10 enzyme coding loci. Three loci were polymorphic (lower than 0.95 in major allele frequency) in natural populations,2 loci in hatchery stock. The average number of alleles per locus was 1.38. Observed heterozygosities ranged from 0.0235 to 0.088 (0.055 on the average) in natural population while 0.0925 in hatchery stock. The genetic distance among natural populations measured 0.000047-0.005407 and no significant differentiation was observed among them. On the other hand, a signifcant genetic distance was found between natural populations and the hatchery stock with measuring 0.002032-0.O08605. The results in this study suggest that the hatchery stock has diverged from natural populations, and also that careful to maintain sustainable and effective population size (parents number) should be made.
Respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) among preterm infants is typically due to a quantitative deficiency of pulmonary surfactant. Aside from the degree of prematurity, diverse environmental and genetic factors can affect the development of RDS. The variance of the risk of RDS in various races/ethnicities or monozygotic/dizygotic twins has suggested genetic influences on this disorder. So far, several specific mutations in genes encoding surfactant-associated molecules have confirmed this. Specific genetic variants contributing to the regulation of pulmonary development, its structure and function, or the inflammatory response could be candidate risk factors for the development of RDS. This review summarizes the background that suggests the genetic predisposition of RDS, the identified mutations, and candidate genetic polymorphisms of pulmonary surfactant proteins associated with RDS.
