$PbZrO_3$ 나노튜브의 졸-겔 형판 합성과 상전이 (Sol-Gel Template Synthesis and Phase Transitions of $PbZrO_3$ Nanotubes)

  • We report the phase transition temperatures of the $PbZrO_3$ perovskite nanotubes made by sol-gel template synthesis. The lead zirconate($PbZrO{_3}$) nanotubes were prepared with a chelate sol-gel of zirconium tetrabutoxide($Zr(OBu){_4}$) and leadacetate($Pb(OAc){_2}-3H_2O$). $Whatman^(r)$ anodisc membranes, with a 200nm pore size, served as the template. After removing the template in the 6M-NaOH solution, the $PbZrO{_3}$ nanotubes so far have shown an anomalous transition temperature, $123.6^{\circ}C$ as measured by DSC with a small particle size, 15.4nm determined by X-ray analysis with the aid of Scherrer's equation.

  • In this study we investigated the gelation time of sol which containing mixtures of TEOS with H2O, ethanol, HCl in the preparation of monolithic silica glass through Sol-Gel method. In this case apparent activation energies were observed by Arrhenius equation. We investigated the conversion from gel to glass in drying and heat treatment stages using DT-TG, FT-IR, XRD analysis and dried gel conversed to glass by heat treatment up to 85$0^{\circ}C$. The results of this experiment showed that the gelation time of solutions were promoted when increasing the amount of addition of H2O and HCl catalyst for TEOS and high reaction temperature of solution.

졸겔법에 의한 알루미나 섬유의 제조: (II) TEA 착체졸로부터 방사한 섬유의 특성분석 (The Preparation of Alumina Fiber by Sol-gel Method: (II) Properties of Fiber Spun by TEA Complexed Sol)

  • The alumina fiber was obtained by extruding the TEA complexed polymeric sol, synthesized by the alkoxide sol-gel method, through nozzle. The purpose of this study was to investigate the properties of fiber spun by TEA complexed sol. The analysis of sol indicated that TEA was bonded at alkoxide precursor and the optimum molar ratio for spinning was 0.5 mole of TEA, 3 mole of H2O. The cross section of the fiber from circular nozzle was not circular but oval, which indicated that the shape of nozzle did not affect the shape of fiber. The diameter of the fiber was about 100 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ in the state of dried gel fiber, 60${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ in calcined fiber, and the tensile strength of the fiber calcined at 90$0^{\circ}C$ was 2.1$\times$108 Pa.

Sol-Gel 법으로 제작된 PLZT 박막의 Zr/Ti 비에 따른 구조 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Structural Characteristics of PLZT Thin Films with Zr/Ti Ratios Prepared by Sol-Gel Method)

  • Thin films of PLZT were prepared on indium tin oxide(ITO) coated glass substrates by sol-gel process and annealed by rapid thermal annealing(RTA) at $750^{\circ}C$ for 5 minutes. The crystal structure of PLZT thin films were investigated for a different Zr mol% content. XRD results showed that the crystallographic structure was transitted from tetragonal to rhombohedral structure as Zr mol% increased. Raman spectroscopy results showed that the bands of spectra became broader as the amount of Zr mol% increased and two crystal phase coexisted at 2/55/45 PLZT film. Raman spectroscopy was useful for crystal structure analysis of PLZT thin films.

졸-겔 법을 통한 수분산형 폴리우레탄 합성 및 가교밀도 개선에 따른 성능 연구 (The Effect of Improved Crosslink Density on the Properties of Waterborne Polyurethanes Using Sol-Gel Process)

  • Water-based systems are dominating the coating market because of worldwide VOCs regulations. Research is focusing especially on waterborne polyurethane (WPU) because of its unique mechanical and chemical properties. However, commercial WPU consists of linear thermoplastic polymers with polar groups on the main chain, which do not perform as well as solvent-borne PU in a two-pack system. In this study, APTES were used as a chain crosslink agent to overcome commercial WPU's limited performance. WPUs synthesized by using a sol-gel process were evaluated with FT-IR, particle analysis, TGA, tensile tests, pull-off tests, SEM, and EIS. The results showed that WPUs with added APTES had better thermal stability, mechanical properties, and water resistance than did WPUs without added APTES. Consequently, the sol-gel process increased the crosslink density of WPUs and modified the WPU's own properties.

  • The important parts of material science in the film preparation fields and sol-gel technology are presented. For the present work, a series of amorphous films was prepared in air by sol-gel method without using some alkoxide stabilizer, which reduces the reactivity of the metal alkoxides. The choice of precursors can affect the chemical-reaction kinetics, microstructures and properties of the product. In this report author compared the crystallization behavior of oxide functional films derived from the same precursors, stressing the influence of experiment conditions and where it was possible to obtain the uniform amorphous or crystalline dielectric films. A short analysis of sol-gel technology and thin film methods about development of dielectric materials has been given.

Micro-computed tomographic evaluation of the effect of fluoride agents on white spot lesions: An in vitro study

  • Objective: To investigate remineralizing effect of three fluoride regimens on artificially demineralized enamel around orthodontic bracket by analyzing mineral density (MD) acquired from micro-computed tomography (micro-CT). Methods: Forty-eight bracket bonded bovine incisors were prepared to create demineralized enamel (DE) surface. The samples were divided into four groups according to the fluoride regimen: 1) no fluoridation, 2) 1.23% acidulated phosphate fluoride (APF) gel, 3) fluoridated toothpaste, and 4) 0.05% sodium fluoride mouthwash. Micro-CT was scanned after demineralization (T0), and 2 weeks (T1) and 4 weeks (T2) of fluoridation. Results: APF gel showed highest remineralization of DE during T1-T0 interval among the groups (p < 0.05); followed by toothpaste, mouthwash and no fluoridation. APF gel and toothpaste demonstrated significant increase in MD after 4 weeks of application (p < 0.05). Conclusions: Remineralization effects of three fluoride regimens were depicted through micro-CT analysis, of which APF gel was most effective.

Assessment of Bandsharing Values in RAPD-PCR Analysis of Dwarf Cattle of Kerala

  • Random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD-PCR) analysis of 56 animals of four different genetic groups of dwarf cattle in Kerala was done as a single step analysis. Bandsharing (BS) values were calculated for animals of each group and between groups as an analytical tool to find out genetic variation among animals. The different factors affecting BS values were estimated using Harvey''s Least squares analysis. The effects of genetic group, Guanine-cytosine (GC) content of primer and gel on BS values were found significant. Bandsharing values of Kasargode-Highrange dwarf animals were significantly different from Vechur, Vatakara and their combinations. The Vechur, Vatakara and Vechur-Vatakara combinations were found to be more uniform (high BS value) compared with other combinations. The bandsharing value was lowest with primers of GC content 90% and highest with 80% GC content. The effect of gel on BS value points to the need of adjustments of gel factor for calculation of BS values.

Microbial Community Structure of Korean Cabbage Kimchi and Ingredients with Denaturing Gradient Gel Electrophoresis

  • Kimchi is a traditional Korean fermented vegetable food, the production of which involves brining of Korean cabbage, blending with various other ingredients (red pepper powder, garlic, ginger, salt-pickled seafood, etc.), and fermentation. Recently, kimchi has also become popular in the Western world because of its unique taste and beneficial properties such as antioxidant and antimutagenic activities, which are derived from the various raw materials and secondary metabolites of the fermentative microorganisms used during production. Despite these useful activities, analysis of the microbial community present in kimchi has received relatively little attention. The objective of this study was to evaluate the bacterial community structure from the raw materials, additives, and final kimchi product using the culture-independent method. Specifically, polymerase chain reaction-denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (PCR-DGGE) was used to analyze the 16S rRNA partial sequences of the microflora. One primer set for bacteria, 341FGC-518R, reliably produced amplicons from kimchi and its raw materials, and these bands were clearly separated on a 35-65% denaturing gradient gel. Overall, 117 16S rRNA fragments were identified by PCR-DGGE analysis. Pediococcus pentosaceus, Leuconostoc citreum, Leuconostoc gelidum, and Leuconostoc mesenteroides were the dominant bacteria in kimchi. The other strains identified were Tetragenococcus, Pseudomonas, Weissella, and uncultured bacterium. Comprehensive analysis of these microorganisms could provide a more detailed understanding of the biologically active components of kimchi and help improve its quality. PCR-DGGE analysis can be successfully applied to a fermented food to detect unculturable or other species.
