  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of a peer evaluation method on the core fundamental nursing skills competency, learning attitude, critical thinking and self-leadership of graduating nursing students. A survey using a questionnaire was administered to 326 nursing students. The data was analyzed using SAS(ver. 9.8) and AMOS(ver.20.0) The results of peer evaluation showed that the fundamental nursing skills competency was 3.77(${\pm}.62$), the learning attitude was 3.17(${\pm}.47$), critical thinking was 3.44(${\pm}.41$) and self-leadership was 3.60(${\pm}.49$). Core fundamental nursing skills competency showed statistical differences based on gender, major satisfaction, practice satisfaction, pre-learning and satisfaction with the peer evaluation. Core fundamental nursing skills competency was positively correlated with learning attitude(r=.295, p<.001), critical thinking was positively correlated with core fundamental nursing skills competency(r=.384, p<.001) and learning attitude(r=.623, p<.001), and finally, self-leadership was positively correlated with core fundamental nursing skills competency(r=.353, p<.001), learning attitude(r=.529, p<.001) and critical thinking(r=.690, p<.001). The factors affecting fundamental nursing skills competency were critical thinking and self-leadership. Core fundamental practical education programs to improve learning attitude, critical thinking and self-leadership need to be developed to increase core fundamental nursing skills.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate undergraduate students' preconception about the needed knowledge to understand organic reactions based on electron flow and undergraduate students' ability that understand fundamental chemical reaction based on electron flow, and was to offer pertinent teaching and learning method. For this study, 18 sophomores that majored in chemistry education of H University, were sampled. Test papers were newly developed that based on previous research. Undergraduate students' response was classified and reasons of the response were qualitatively analyzed by interview. According to the results of this study, it was found that undergraduate students had good understanding on the concept about the electron configuration of atoms and on the concepts about the needed knowledge to understand chemical reactions based on electron flow. But they didn't apply the concepts to the fundamental chemical reaction. Therefore, teaching and learning strategy that apply the needed concepts to understand chemical reactions based on electron flow to chemical reactions should be developed.

  • In this study, 85 studies on probability education from 2000 to 2020 were analyzed by publishing year, journals, research subjects, and research topics. Especially, fundamental probabilistic ideas presented by Batanero et al.(2016) were applied to examine which topics were dominant in domestic probability education research. As a result, it was found that there has been a few research in probability education in Korea during the past 20 years, and the number of human subject studies was slightly more than the number of non-human subject studies. In addition, the analysis of research topics according to the fundamental probabilistic ideas showed that two topics, conditional probability and independence and combinatorial enumeration and counting, were dominant in domestic probability education research. However, while both conditional probability and independence and combinatorial enumeration and counting are introduced to young children using intuitive manners in international probability education research, subjects related to these topics were primarily high school students and pre and in-service teachers. Based on the results of this study, the implications for the goal and the direction of future probability education research were discussed.

  • As the discourse of scientific literacy has broadly summed up the goals of science education in the current decade, this study attempts to question how we contextualize appropriate interpretations and feasible approaches to scientific literacy in K-6 science education. With respect to the complex praxis of scientific knowledge and practice, this study emphasizes the participatory framework of scientific literacy which interweaves children's everyday experiences and science learning. This study also concerns children's abilities to understand and enact scientific enterprises (i.e., children's fundamental sense of scientific literacy). As a way of developing K-6 scientific literacy, this study investigates how using science books can broaden the scope of children's understandings of science in life connections and promote a fundamental sense of scientific literacy through talking, reading, and writing skills in Grade two science classrooms in Canada. Second graders were engaged in learning "sound" for five weeks. During science lessons, children's talks were recorded and their writings were collected for data interpretation. This research finds that using science books can encourage children to become engaged in communicative activities such as talking, reading, and writing in science; furthermore, using science books develops children's inquiry skills. These findings open a further discussion on scientific literacy at the K-6 levels.
