In this study, a new type of Durometer was invented by modifying the currently used Durometer with the hemisphere shaped needle to columnar shaped needle. The aim of the study is, hence, to provide the feasibility of the advanced Durometer for assessing setting time of the concrete. Generally, the finishing of concrete surface should be conducted to secure the smooth surface, improve the permeability, and prevent the plastic shrinkage cracking. Although this surface finishing work should be conducted during the plastic phase between initial and final setting, currently in practical situations, the timing of starting the finishing work was determined by the sense of the worker. To improve this situation, Kato Junji suggested to use the hemisphere and needle shaped Durometers to determine the initial and final setting time, respectively. However, in this case, there are difficulties of using two different Durometers and of occurring failure of the Durometer due to the intruded cement paste. To prove the feasibility of new typed Durometer, setting time and surface hardness were evaluated by applying for the concrete with various replacing ratios of fly-ash and coal gasification slag as an aggregate.

This research is to examine the selected method of optimal mixing proportion and cost analysis in the super flowing concrete. As confined water $ratio($\beta_p$)$ and K is introduced, itis to establish optimal mixing design of super flowing concrete according to the steps of paste, mortar and concrete. From paste and mortar test, it was led to $$\beta_p$$ and $K_p$satisfying the optimum condions depending on the kinds of binders. Then $$\beta_p$$ and $K_p$ is reflected to the mix condition of super flowing concrete. The result of test, the mix condition of super flowing concrete satisfied the quality performance of concrete with adjustment of additional rate of the superplasticizer. Besides, in case of design strength $350kg/\textrm{cm}^2$ of concrete, material cost in super flowing concrete is able to be reduced 5~16% in replacement of fly ash 30% in ordinary portland cement and slag cement.

Computational drawbacks associated with regular predictive models have motivated engineers to use hybrid techniques in dealing with complex engineering tasks like simulating the compressive strength of concrete (CSC). This study evaluates the efficiency of tree potential metaheuristic schemes, namely shuffled complex evolution (SCE), multi-verse optimizer (MVO), and beetle antennae search (BAS) for optimizing the performance of a multi-layer perceptron (MLP) system. The models are fed by the information of 1030 concrete specimens (where the amount of cement, blast furnace slag (BFS), fly ash (FA1), water, superplasticizer (SP), coarse aggregate (CA), and fine aggregate (FA2) are taken as independent factors). The results of the ensembles are compared to unreinforced MLP to examine improvements resulted from the incorporation of the SCE, MVO, and BAS. It was shown that these algorithms can considerably enhance the training and prediction accuracy of the MLP. Overall, the proposed models are capable of presenting an early, inexpensive, and reliable prediction of the CSC. Due to the higher accuracy of the BAS-based model, a predictive formula is extracted from this algorithm.

The use of recycled concrete aggregates (RCA) as a substitute for natural aggregates in new concrete produces both economic and environmental advantages. Most of the RCA applications for pavements have been primarily applied to support layers for roads and airfields. This paper summarizes a work completed at the University of Illinois in partnership with the O'Hare Modernization Program to examine the effect of coarse and fine RCA on the concrete's fresh and hardened properties for airfield rigid pavement applications. Ten different RCA concrete mixtures were prepared with the incorporation of different percentages of RCA fines as well as replacement of cement with high volume percentages of supplementary cementitious materials such as Class C fly ash and ground granulated blast furnace slag to improve the workability and long-term properties of RCA concrete. All the mixes on this stage included 100% recycled coarse aggregates and the Two-Stage Mixing Approach was used as a mixing procedure. Based on the results obtained in the research, mixes with high percentages of recycled fine and coarse aggregates could be used for construction of airfield concrete pavements in conjunction with supplementary cementitious materials

Recently, due to the increase of high-rise buildings construction, many researches for making harden of concrete earlier and remove of forms faster are being performed to reduce construction period. In this study, we compared and analysed the early strength properties of mortar according to the kinds and replacement ratio of mineral admixture to select the kinds and replacement ratio of mineral admixture of high early strength concrete. For this purpose, mortar mixtures according to the kinds(FA, MK, ZR, BFS, DM) and replacement ratio(0, 2, 4% by volume of sand) of mineral admixture were selected. From our test data, early-age compressive strength decreased in accordance with the increase of replacement ratio of fly-ash(FA) & blast furnace slag powder(BSF) and, in case of addition admixture, early-age compressive strength of with containing 4% appeared higher compared with containing 2%.

This paper discusses the combined application of two different techniques, Neural Networks (NN) and Principal Component Analysis (PCA), for improved prediction of concrete properties. The combination of these approaches allowed the development of six neural networks models for predicting slump and compressive strength of concrete with mineral additives such as blast furnace slag, fly ash and silica fume. The Back-Propagation Multi-Layer Perceptron (BPMLP) with Bayesian regularization was used in all these models. They are produced to implement the complex nonlinear relationship between the inputs and the output of the network. They are also established through the incorporation of a huge experimental database on concrete organized in the form Mix-Property. Thus, the data comprising the concrete mixtures are much correlated to each others. The PCA is proposed for the compression and the elimination of the correlation between these data. After applying the PCA, the uncorrelated data were used to train the six models. The predictive results of these models were compared with the actual experimental trials. The results showed that the elimination of the correlation between the input parameters using PCA improved the predictive generalisation performance models with smaller architectures and dimensionality reduction. This study showed also that using the developed models for numerical investigations on the parameters affecting the properties of concrete is promising.
This study aimed to investigate the suitability of some concrete components for producing "high-performance heavy density concrete" using different types of aggregates that could enhances the shielding efficiency against ${\gamma}$-rays. 15 mixes were prepared using barite, magnetite, goethite and serpentine aggregates along with 10% silica fume, 20% fly ash and 30% blast furnace slag to total OPC content for each mix. The mixes were subjected to compressive strength at 7, 28 and 90 days. In some mixes, compressive strengths were also tested up to 90 days upon replacing sand with the fine portions of magnetite, barite and goethite. The mixes containing magnetite along with 10% SF reaches the highest compressive strength exceeding over M60 requirement by 14% after 28 days. Whereas, the compressive strength of concrete containing barite was very close to M60 and exceeds upon continuing for 90 days. Also, the compressive strength of high-performance concrete incorporating magnetite fine aggregate was significantly higher than that containing sand by 23%. On the other hand, concrete made with magnetite fine aggregate had higher physico-mechanical properties than that containing barite and goethite. High-performance concrete incorporating magnetite fine aggregate enhances the shielding efficiency against ${\gamma}$-rays.

In this paper, the flowability, strengths, impact resistance and sulfuric acid resistance of steel fiber reinforced high performance concrete (SFHPC) for the steel fiber content and fly ash and blast furnace slag as admixtures were presented. For evaluating flowability particularly, tests of slump flow, box-type passing ability and L-type filling ability were performed. The slump flow of SFHPC was some decreased with increase of the steel fiber content. At the box-type passing ability, the difference of box height of SFHPC is greatly increased with increasing the fiber content. The L-type filling ability of SFHPC was not excellent above $0.75\% of the steel fiber content. Also, the compressive strength of SFHPC was decreased with increase of the steel fiber content, but the flexural strength of SFHPC was much higher than that of the concrete without the steel fiber. At the impact resistance, drop number of SFHPC for reaching final fracture was increased with increase of the fiber content. Also, the drop number for reaching initial fracture of lmm was increased with increase of the fiber content. At the sulfuric acid resistance, 4-week weight change of SFHPC with the steel fiber was almost similarity that of HPC without the steel fiber and was in the range of 73.6 to 81.5.

Cement paste is originally the basic material and crucial factor consisting concrete. This study investigates the relationship between flow apparatuses, which are ring flow(R-F), flow cone(F-C) and mini slump(M-S), in order to estimate the fluidity of cement Paste. For quantitatively evaluating the measured data this study also investigated the calibration of the rheology consistent, such as yield value and plastic viscosity, of cement paste using viscometer For this purpose the present work discussed the influence of 3 type of ordinary portland cement with different companies, affecting the fluidity of cement paste. and it also demonstrated the influence of the various kinds of mineral admixtures, such as fly ash(FA), blast furnace slag(BS) and silica fume(SF) and that of incorporating ratio. The author concluded that using R-F apparatus is the most effective flow test method of cement paste and it is exactly proportional to other apparatus' rheological properties.
In this study, the accelerated corrosion test by combined deteriorating action of salt damage and freeze-thaw was investigated. freeze-thaw cycle is one method for corrosion testing; corrosion initiation time was measured in four types of concrete samples, i.e., two samples mixed with fly ash (FA) and blast furnace slag (BS), and the other two samples having two water/cement ratio (W/C = 0.6, 0.35) without admixture (OPC60 and OPC35). The corrosion of rebar embedded in concrete occurred most quickly at the $30^{th}$ freeze-thaw cycle. Moreover, a corrosion monitoring method with a half-cell potential measurement and relative dynamic elastic modulus derived from resonant frequency measures was conducted simultaneously. The results indicated that the corrosion of rebar occurred when the relative dynamic elastic modulus was less than 60%. Therefore, dynamic elastic modulus can be used to detect corrosion of steel bar. The results of the accelerated corrosion test exhibited significant difference according to corrosion periods combined with each test condition. Consequently, the OPC60 showed the lowest corrosion resistance among the samples.
