Sedum makinoi Maxim. (Crassulaceae): an unrecorded species from Korea (둥근잎비름(돌나물과): 국내 미기록종)

  • We reported an unrecorded species from Korean flora, Sedum makinoi found at Mt. Sung-am, Sajung-dong, Gyeongsan-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do. The species is distinguished from other Korean species of section Seda-genuina by flat and orbicular leaves and opposite phyllotaxy on flowering shoots. Description and illustration of the species and photos of the habitat are provided.

Design of Passive-Type Radar Reflector

  • This paper describes design method of Passive-type Radar Reflector (PRR) which is to provide the requirement of newly revised 2000 SOLAS regulations on the Radar Reflector. The main target of this work is to find the optimum shape of a radar target having large Radar Cross Section (RCS). Through the RCS analysis based on the theoretical approach, two kinds of PRR models, RRR-F model for use in fisheries and PRR-S model for use in small sized ship, are designed and discussed their RCS performance. RCS measurement tests for the various sized samples are carried out in an anechoic chamber. As evaluation results it was clearly shown that the conventional sphere-type shows optimum shape in case of PRR-S, while the cylinder-type which consists of large sized corner clusters or zig-zag flat plats gives best performance in case of PRR-F.

Effects of Cu Wire's Shape on the Plating Property of Sn-Pb Solder for Photovoltaic Ribbons

  • We studied the plating properties of Sn-Pb solder according to the shape of the Cu wire's cross-section for photovoltaic ribbon. The thickness of the Sn-Pb layer largely decreased to 29% on a curved Cu surface, compared to a flat Cu surface. This phenomenon is caused by the geometrical decrease in the contact angle of the liquid Sn-Pb solder and an increase in the surface energy of the solid/vapor on the curved Cu surface. We suggest a new ribbon's design where the Cu wire's cross-section is a semi-ellipse. These semi-ellipse ribbons can decrease the use of Sn-Pb solder to 64% and increase the photovoltaic efficiency, by reducing the contact area between the ribbon and cell, to 84%. We also see an improvement of reflectivity in the curved surface.

Congenital mitral valve stenosis in a Chinchilla cat

  • A one-year-old, 3.25 kg intact male Chinchilla cat presented with acute right hind limb paralysis. Diagnostic imaging studies found cardiomegaly with interstitial lung pattern, abnormal mitral valve leaflets without maximum opening at the end of the ventricular diastole and during atrial systole and severe mitral inflow obstruction. Based on these findings and its young age, the case was diagnosed as congenital mitral valve stenosis. Treatment was directed to stabilize clinical conditions related to heart failure, to prevent further formation of thrombus and to relieve pain associated with thromboembolism. After one month of therapy, hind limb motor function was fully recovered.

Heat Transfer Characteristics in Impinging Air Jet with Hybrid Rod (하이브리드 로드를 갖는 충돌공기제트의 열전달특성에 관한 연구)

  • The heat transfer characteristics for air jet vertically impinging on a flat plate which had a set of hybrid rod were investigated experimentally. The rod had a cross section made with a half of circular cross section and that of rectangular and was installed in front of the plate. The heating surface was given constant heat flux value of 1020 W/$m^2^{\circ]C$ and the problem parameters investigated were jet Reynolds number, nozzle-to-plate spacing and the rod size. The local and local average Nusselt number characteristics were found to be dependent on the rod size because the flow was disturbed by installing the rod. Higher convective heat transfer rate occurred in the whole plate as well as in the stagnation region.

A Study on the Structural Performance of Slab-column Joint at Flat Plate Structure Using ECC (고인성 시멘트 복합재를 활용한 플랫플레이트 구조의 슬래브-기둥 접합부 구조성능 연구)

  • One of the important considerations in structural designing the flat plate system is ensuring the resistance to punching shear caused by axial loads and the ductile ability to follow horizontal deformation under earthquake. In this study, the ECC (Engineered Cementitious Composite) has been placed in the critical section zone of punching shear at slab-column joint to improve ductility and the advanced details of shear reinforced area nearby critical section zone has been developed using stud and steel fiber. The shear performance tests were performed on the specimens with parameters of fiber type mixed with ECC, stud and steel fiber set into the shear reinforced area in which the failure pattern, joint strength, displacement and strain of the specimen were compared and analyzed. The test results showed that the strength and ductility of specimens with ECC applied to joint were better than those of RC flat plate system. Also, the shear reinforcement effect of stud and the ductility improvement of steel fiber concrete were confirmed in the shear reinforcement area.

Bonding Properties and Resin Exudation Characteristics of Pitch Pine (리기다소나무재의 수지 삼출성과 접착 특성)

  • In order to use Pitch pine (Pinus rigida Miller) as the material of the structural glued laminated timber, the effect of the amount of resin exudation due to storage time after the planning and the knot of the lamina were evaluated on the bonding properties of the glued board with resorcinol resin. For Pitch pine that was dried at high temperature ($120{\sim}95^{\circ}C$) and low temperature ($65{\sim}50^{\circ}C$), the flat sawn(tangential section) showed higher amount of resin exudation than the quarter sawn(radial section). And the low temperature drying wood showed higher resin exudation than the high temperature drying wood. The low and high temperature drying wood showed the highest amount of resin exudation on the 3rd day and 7th day, respectively and they were gradually decreased. However, there were no significant differences from 15 to 90 days. Adhesion performances were low until 2~3 days with high exudation of resin, but there were no significant differences after 15 days. Both high temperature and low temperature drying woods satisfied the Korean standard regardless of the storage time. The adhesive strengths of the laminating parts including knots were higher than those of KS criteria, but the wood failures were not satisfied the KS standard. Adhesive performances according to the laminating combinations (quarter sawn + quarter sawn, flat sawn + flat sawn, quarter sawn + flat sawn) were better than those of KS criteria in all laminating combinations in both high temperature and low temperature drying woods.

  • A three node flat triangular element incorporating Layerwise Zig-Zag Theory(HZZT) is developed suitable for analyzing damped laminated composite structures. Using an interdependent kinematic relation, the higher order shear rotations are replaced by in-plane displacements, a transverse displacement and section rotations, which result in three translations and two rotations. Natural frequencies and modal loss factors of cantilevered laminated plates with embedded damping layers are calculated with the zig-zag triangular element and compared to the experimental results and MSC/NASTRAN results using a layered combination of plate and solid elements.

  • Recently, the box-girder bridge became quite popular because of the effectiveness of the box section against torsional deformation, and the finite element method has been one of the powerful and versatile method for obtaining the solution of box-girder bridge. The finite element method is used to solve a box girder which is built up with flat plates such as flanges, webs and diaphragm, and box girder is idealized by 8-nodes 2-dimensional isoparmetric finite element. To investigate the stress of diaphragm, substructure analysis is performed with two Parameters which are the location of support and slope of web.

  • In [2] we proved that if the minimum of the sectional curvature of a compact real minimal hypersurface of CP$^{m}$ is 1/(2m-1), then M is the geodesic hypersphere. This result was generalized in [8] to the case of M is a generic submanifold with flat normal connection. The purpose of the present paper is to prove a following generalization of theorems in [2] and [8].
